The settlement of Acada faced grave tragedy this year and a growing threat from beyond its borders. A large group of raiders emerged from Mount Hood National Forest early in the year, bringing with them hundreds of slaves. They sent slave messengers ahead, demanding tribute in food and water from the communities of the Cascadia region, particularly Acada and Colton. Both communities refused the initial terms, and Will Jones, leader of the Acada Settlers went out to negotiate himself. He and his escort were brutally murdered by the raiders, and Jones' head triumphantly placed upon a stick. The marauders then proceeded to head southwest, ignoring the heavily defended settlement. Instead they razed Outpost 211 and proceeded to besiege Colton. Faced with destruction, the people of Colton opened their doors to pay tribute, only to find the raiders storming the entrance and slaughtering or enslaving most of the populace. They set up a temporary base in the ruins as it has become more apparent that they will soon attack the fortified settlement of Acada.
Not all news was bad however. Peaceful contact was established by radio with The Community to the south in the town of Yreka. Pleasantries were exchanged as the leaders of the two factions communicated for the first time.
The outpost in Barton continued its limited salvaging efforts, hindered by a lack of manpower to bring in any large amounts of goods, though it is reported that a considerable amount exists in the region. Unfortunately, one salvaging party accidently activated an old robot security system at the local National Guard Armory and were wiped out by the defenses. Their weapons were recovered by a follow-up team, though the armory's defenses remain intact.
Overseer's Challenge: The Raiders march upon us! Morale is low as no clear leader exists for the Settlers, and some have begun to prepare to flee, and someone must take charge, but who?
