Did a quick search and didn't find a general boycott thread in the Tavern like El Mac's old one in the off topic of yore. So... starting one! Who are you boycotting, and why?

As of today, I am initiating a 1 year boycott on McDonald's. Actually, I am making it through the end of February 2013 just to make it easy to remember when it ends.

Why? I'll tell you! The damned automated greeting in the drive-thru. It tells me to order when I am ready, so I start ordering and then get cut off by a live person asking me to wait a moment, pretty please. Now, I do not blame the live person for this, but rather the automated greeting they now use instead of a live greeting from someone.

I finally had enough today when it happened again and so just said "nevermind", parked my car and went inside to complain about this to the manager. Her reaction was, "I am sorry, they are not supposed to ask you to wait. I'll have a talk with them." I immediately got royally pissed off and yelled at her that it wasn't the girl's fault in the drive-thru but the fault of the automated system and that she'd better not punish the drive-thru girl for crappy McDonald's policy.

So anyway, 1 year hiatus from McDonald's. SHARE YOUR BOYCOTT STORIES!!

I am considering boycotting Axe, since I don't like the way their advertisement portrays women. However, I don't buy deodorant that often and then usually pick a random one that is cheap, so the 'boycot' doesn't amount to much.

That has to be the pettiest boycott reason I've heard for a company that has so many better reasons to be boycotted ranging from the crappy substandard food not fit for human consumption, processed meat hoses with ammonia infused slurry, unhealthy products and the crappy minimum wage labor.

But nah, automated greetings is where you drew the line.

Old Spice lets you smell like a man, man.

Yep, that's where I drew the line. Got a problem with it? Go suck a slurry.

you seem to have confused boycotts with consumerism ...
in boycotts you get people to avoid using a service or person because you wish them to change their behavior (like south Africa, capt. Boycott etc.)

where as you have just exercised you free market power and decided to not buy what you used to buy?, Because the sevice was not to your liking, 1000 of restraunts go broke every year because of that, hardly a boycott tho...

I'm boycotting South Africa until they start acknowledging the wide-spread murders of European descendants in their country and start taking adequate steps to putting a stop to it.

****in' South Africa mang. It's always ****in' South Africa.

EDIT: Graffito posted in between the time I opened this thread and made my reply. Me including SA was in no way influenced; merely a coincidence.

To abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion

As I am abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with McDonald's as an expression of protest, I am totally within the definition of boycott.

I stand corrected... I will join you in your boycott of Macca's drive throughs, for one year,

I was boycotting McDonald before all ya.

I'm thinking of boycotting Samsung because the remote on my bluray player is just that bad.

Taco Bell.

Get a Doritos locos.

We don't get Taco Bell in the UK.

Though there are still many, many sub-par-quality fast-food outlets within the UK which could help achieve the goal of constipation relief.

I'm told you can get entire boxes like this:

Why has this glorious innovation not come to the US?

I try not to buy Australian rice because I think it's pretty insane that we grow rice in this country.
