[BTS Module] Israel

Ok, I re-installed the mod into the mod folder as I should. I then loaded the mod in the game, still no Israel. But, I went ahead and chose another civ to play in the Israel mod. When the game loaded to the playing screen a message popped up that read...

"XML Error-
Tag:LEADER_BEN_GURION in info class was incorrect
Current XML file is: xml\Gameinfo/CIV4DiplomacyInfos.xml"

It also had the same error for David and Solomon pop up.

Any suggestions?

I GOT IT TO WORK! :goodjob:

I believe it was a combination of things.

First - When I downloaded the zip file I needed to "extract" the files from winzip to a separate folder, rather than "select all and drag". I believe "extracting" organizes the files into the proper folders.

Second - After I had made sure the mod was in the proper Beyondthesword/mod folder I checked the ini file and it had no option to change the "modular xml". Until... after I had tried to load the mod once in the game, then after this I went back to the Israel mod folder and checked the ini. file again. This time I had the option to change the "modular xml loading" from "0" to "1". I don't know why "modular xml" did not show up the first time in the ini. file.

So all is well now! Whew:cool: Great mod!

Thanks! Glad you got it working! :D

Esnaz,

I finished the Hebrew sound files for your Israel Mod. :D

I sent you a link to download, or you can view my profile and download from there. I translated each file from English to Hebrew and named the files "HebrewOrder" and "HebrewSelect" corresponding to the game files. I tried my best with my computer mic to get the sound files to sound Militaristic. I think that they turned out fairly well but I will leave it up to you if you want to edit them a bit for sound quality and file size.

Keep me posted on the update.

Good luck!, Joseph

Make sure you don't get your slashes mixed up!!! backslash or forward slash? make up your mind!

I wasn't writing a program, I was simply explaining the difficulties I was having. Sorry to disappoint you. ;)

I am usually not into new civs, but I think you two are doing a great job trying to put this together. I hope it's good!

I'd like to see Dave Ben-Gurion as a leader.

And maybe you should give him Protective and Imperialistic (to ensure producing Great Generals).

Thanks,

But Esnaz is the creator of the Israel mod, I simply volunteered to translate the English audio files to Hebrew so that we can hear the units orders in Hebrew in the game. David Ben Gurion is in the mod, but his image needs more change. King David and Solomon are both really awesome in the mod.

Many others have also questioned as to why Israel or Hebrews are not included in Civ4. So good thing we have people out there that are willing to put in the time to make it happen.

If you haven't tried the Israel mod, I suggest you do. Here is the link to the download...

Soon the mod will also be updated with the new Hebrew audio Unit orders. Keep on the lookout!

Is the mod finished though? I'd like to see it once it is polished.

I think the reason why they didn't put them in the game is because they are so closely associated with the religion Judaism. It would be difficult to have Isaralis that wind up with Buddhism, huh? People think all Israelis are Jewish. That all Israelis are Hebrew.

We could say the same thing about Arabs and Islam, or India and Hinduism, ect.
This is the fun of the game, to have any culture you choose with any particular religion.

The Hebrews(Israelis) are one of the most influential people of world history. Because of this culture we have the Bible, the most written document of all time. I could name many of the Civs in the game that are not as influential as the Hebrew nation.

But then again, maybe it is better that Sid Meier did not add Israel, and left it up to us to make it happen seeing that so far everyone who has worked on an Israel mod has done great work.

I wonder about Indians though. A good chunk are Muslim. Around 15%?

I wouldn't doubt it, you may be right. But the overwhelming majority are Hindu.

In Israel there are many Ethiopians and Indians that are Jewish, amongst other cultures. My wife's family are Iraqi Jews on her mothers side, and on her Fathers side they are Turkish Jews.

Also to note, many of the Russian immigrants to Israel are Christian with Jewish family.

The point is, the Hebrew people have been a real life Civ for thousands of years, why not include them?

Including Israel(Hebrews) in the game would erase the doubt that many of us have about Sid Maier.

Yeah, but 15% is still approx. 150,000,000 people!

Yeah, but 15% is still approx. 150,000,000 people!

Over 800 million Indians (80.5%) are Hindu. Other religious groups include Muslims (13.4%), Christians (2.3%), Sikhs (1.9%), Buddhists (0.8%), Jains (0.4%), Jews, Zoroastrians, Bahá'ís and others.

The demographics above was taken from Wikipedia. I think it is safe to say that India is a Hindu nation. No contest here, 13.4% Muslim to 80% Hindu is a HUGE difference.

Now here is the Demographics of Israel from Wikipedia...

"Making up 16.2% of the population, Muslims constitute Israel's largest religious minority. Israeli Arabs, who comprise 19.8% of the population, contribute significantly to that figure as over four fifths (82.6%) of them are Muslim. Of the remaining Israeli Arabs, 8.8% are Christian and 8.4% are Druze.[192] Members of many other religious groups, including Buddhists and Hindus, maintain a presence in Israel, albeit in small numbers."

Per capita Israel holds a higher percentage of Muslims than India. Just as I have been saying all along, although Israel is associated as a Jewish state, many cultures and religions reside there.

So back to the main point, the reason that Israel didn't get put into the game is not because Israel is primarily a Jewish nation, because if that were the logic then India should also be omitted from the game also for being primarily Hindu.

Surdanis:
The doubt I'm talking about is perhaps Sid Maier has something against the Hebrew people and Israel. Or perhaps he thinks that including Israel would spark tension, I really can't say. It doesn't make any sense.

Another probably main reason is that Israel is a very new country, and there is mixed feelings about Modern Israel's connection to Ancient Israel. In my opinion, Ancient Israel and Modern Israel are "the same" and have a huge influence. Most civilizations in the Civilization games are considered to be influential. Because of this debate, it is difficult to fully analyze the influence of Israel.

I thought Sid might actually BE Jewish, but I dunno. I think he just didn't wanna cause any problems: as you say, "cause tension". Similarly, there are no Nazis or Adolf Hitler! And yet we have Stalin, who probably killed far more people during his dictatorship! And even Mao Zedong!

When you think about it, the majority of the leaders are responsible for terrible atrocities...

BTW, what is the unique building? Maybe they should get the Mossad to produce spies faster and make more espionage points.

I think you have a good point here. The debate may be more about how to represent Israel in the game. Should we use modern Israeli symbolism such as the new flag, colors, anthem, ect. Or should we go along the lines of ancient Israel when the Hebews first entered into the promise land which God had given them.

I think that they should use your mod or create one very similar, seeing that you have a mix of ancient and modern Israel included.

Thanks, I tried to implement both modern and ancient in the Israel Mod with the LH's, buildings and units, just like you said ;)

This is from Wikipedia about Sid and his religion....

"Meier currently lives in Hunt Valley, Maryland with his wife, Susan, and son, Ryan. He met his wife at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cockeysville, where they both sing in the choir."

It may have something to do with being a Lutheran! j/k :crazyeye:

I think that you may be partially right about "avoiding tension". But to me there is no tension to have Israel in the game, many others share this opinion. Sure Hitler was excluded for obvious reasons, but then again, Germany is included in the game. You bring up a good point about Moa and Stalin, both being evil Dictators.

If you go to Esnaz's profile you can view his uploads, go to the Israel mod, the one that is about 80mb and you can read the details. I believe the Mossad is included.
