[BTS Module] Israel

your a modding machine. Nice work. And i like the UB choice as - not being jewish- even i have heard of it. It's a historical kind of building.
The bible is a huge contribution in so far as literature/history/record
(religious aspects aside) so i could see a UB based on a Library.

The Kotel is not related to Judaism? The Kotel is the holiest place for the jews, it is not a UB, its a Wonder. its like having Chichen Itza as a UB for the Mayans.

Yeah, you have a point...kotel also means "wall" in hebrew, so it could refer to both the Western Wall itself, and walls in general. But the mikveh might have a place as a UB, if I used in it its more historical connotation

lol i was thinking "tel" a well where they stored water. I thought it replacing walls was a bit strange. Could use a "Tel" (if thats right) and replace aquaduct and give it oasis like power.

Another possibility could be a Beit Din, which would replace a courthouse. Although today it is used for religious purposes in Jewish communities, in ancient times it was the building block of the legal system in Israel.

Maybe I'll make a new UB for Israel in my mod when I come out with the second version.

you have plans to come out with a v2? how exciting. do you know when it might be available?

just to throw in my 2 cents, what is the most fundamental building historically and presently in the jewish religion? indeed, the House(s) of Study, where the great jewish leaders of every age rendered their decisions that deeply impacted the community's observance of stricture. so, if you are going for a religious building, why not take that one, and replace, say, the university building.

also, perhaps moses could be included as leader? or if he's too religious without any aggresiveness, you could do joshua instead. also if you are looking for a UU, i can't imagine why you wouldn't pick "prophet" they were certainly VERY unique to jewish culture. all other religions that claimed to have had prophets had, at most, one or 2 prophets {who weren't jewish anyway}, whereas ancient jewish culture claims over 600,000 prophets! additionally, they served a major function, as people who were suffering from various kinds of troubles would go to their "local prophet" so to speak and ask him to consult with god for them to discover what the reason for it was.

and lastly, (probabaly, it isn't nice of me to ask you to do this, since i do nothing and you are doing all the work *__*, but) could you make the ancient hebrews and modern israel two seperate civs? altho they have much in common, there is a lot (and i think perhaps more) that seperates them, most primarily the fact that the ancient hebrews were a strictly theocratic society dominated wholly and soully (pun haha) by their religion. modern israel is by contrast a secular society whose movements are not based strictly on jewish religious stricture, so i think they would make an interesting civ in of their own right.

i am curious in any case to know what you think of my ideas, and thank you for the wonderful work you have done thus far.

lazer.

I agree with some, maybe I'll add Joshua as a third leader. However, most of what you are talking about is primarily Jewish culture, not Israeli. The prophet would be way too religious, as would the House of Study. Its actually difficult to find an Israeli UB, as most is carried over to the Jewish religion.

I was just looking for another possibility for a UU, and a Mechina is a nice one that could replace a University. Again another possibile replacement for a University is a Youth Village. However, I think that the Mechina is what I would be leaning toward.

i thought that maybe those points would bother you, which is why i maybe thought if there was a seperate ancient hebrew civ it wouldn't be off the mark for it to be highly religion oriented, because historically that would be accurate.

Personally, and as some of the community agrees with me, a seperate ancient Israel civ...wouldn't be right, in a certain sense. When the Jews/Israelis were exiled from Israel, they remembered it forever. Finally, in 1948, the state was established and Israel was "re-created". I put emphasis on "re" because much of the Jewish population woud agree that modern Israel is the same as ancient Israel in terms of a place. It has the same name, location, and the Jewish religion closely identifies itself with the Land of Israel, referring to both the ancient kingdom and the modern state. But I do see your point, don't get me wrong!

^_^ no worries, i'm happy to have someone consider my ideas.

btw, if i may be a little rude, do you have any rough idea of when a v2 might come out?

It isn't rude at all. I only have a request for a new UB...so maybe I'll just do a simple replacement. It shouldn't take that long, but I have some stuff coming up this week and am working on my other mod...so it'll probably be out between wednesday and friday of this week.

A quick question - which ini file needs the Modular XML Loading value set to 1?

I had the one for my "My Games/Beyond the Sword" ini set to 1, but nothing was showing up, so just for grins I looked at your "Esnaz's Israel" ini and it was 0 ...set that to 1 and it worked.

Does it have to be both, or just the one in the mod folder?

Also, newbie mod question here - does it matter if the mod is put into the "My Games/Beyond the Sword/MODS" directory or the ".../Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods" directory?

Both :)

There have always been some problems going down the My Documents route, so it's recommended to put it under Program Files (or wherever else you installed it).

I have the .ini file changed (Modular XML Loading) from 0 to 1 in both places (the CivIV.ini file in BTS under "My Games" AND the Israel file within the Mod itself.

I have the Israel Mod placed in Program Files as recommended, not in "My Games."

When I load the mod in-game, I see it loading on the screen.

But when I go to play as Israel, I can't find Israel anywhere. I have spent two hours fiddling with this. HELP!

I've also tried editing the CivIV ini file in "My Games", puttting "Israel" on the line for Mods so that it loads automatically when I start the game. Again, nothing.

Other possible issues (this stuff is never easy for perma-newbs like me, but I really, really appreciate all the help on this forum!) include the fact that I'm running BTS 3.13 without the unofficial Bhruic (?spelling) patch.

Another possible issue is that I don't understand the instructions in the Sticky at the top of this forum regarding "layering" the Mod File. Am I supposed to create a file that's called "Israel Mod" and put the Mod inside it, or not? I've tried both ways, no luck.

I look under Custom Game (the way I like to play). I look under every option for Single player, and Israel does not come up anywhere. Can this be used in a Custom Game?

where do you extract the files to there is no file saying read me dumb ass

I would gladly help you, but rudeness wouldn't make anything go faster. You extract it to C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods
