C2C - Event Ideas

It's not like religious fanaticism of an irrational nature does not exist, Joe. I wouldn't accuse you of it. But all religions have had their moments where a strong segment of its followers rise up to take a stand against something they find offensive and others see as simply wonderful. It's not meant to 'pick on' any given religion so I feel that the above methods of resolution should be sufficient, though I'd eye the other option for some balance adjustments to make it not so lopsided and obvious what you SHOULD choose.

Re: Iditarod event: could I have a save game with this? The second option only requires 100 gold to be active, if it is not something is funny that I cannot pinpoint without a save.

Re: Harry Potter event: I'll set its chance to 0 for now and stare at it some more, I agree that it is not worth having around as is, if I can come up with some decent change I'll do it. Its well possible to offer the choice of supporting religious intolerance, tolerance or indifference through events that are quite a bit more balanced I suspect.

I had an event as owner of the Ultimate Soldier Corporation where i have been asked to increase both ammunition and a metal source.
I guess i cannot fulfill the conquest as i already own a filling factory and the sevopedia shows clearly no other source for ammunition aside from the filling factory.
Trading ammunition with other civilizations is still not possible.

A possible solution could be to remove the ammunition as prereq or make the filling factory a simple building rather than a national wonder.

I recently had an early ancient event that gave all my archer units poison weapons. This seemed odd since a majority of them already had poisoned tips via poison crafters. Looking at them, it appears clearly as separate promotions and (slightly) different promotion names. I can 'zen' the reasoning as perhaps discovering an ultrapowerful poison combination or some such. But am wondering if this isn't perhaps a bit of overkill.

@taxman66

Yes it is old event promotion poisoned arrows from Rom/AND schould be replaced for ex +5% to poisoned tips.

%changes to promotions are not something I'd like to do through events - I can change the promotion they receive easily though. On the other hand if you have two kinds of arrow poisons it may still work out the way it is currently. Not invested in going either way, so convince me :p

I'll look into the ultimate soldier thing

Perhaps just adding an alternate text blurb stating that it makes existing poisons even stronger?

You'll want to make this consideration in light of the Combat Mod new promotion types and methods... without explaining everything you should know on it here I'll just say please take full account of at least the second part of the description thread for the combat mod as it comes together further. Many event based free promotions will need to be reconsidered in depth.

I have no problem adding promotions that exist and change some that are currently being used - but right now I am not likely to create new promotions for events. The % comment was mostly based on the assumption that I would need to write code that distinguishes between having a promotion then add some sort of one off bonus or not having a promotion then add a promotion. If e.g. poison works differently in the future I'd probably see what types of poison promotions are being used and pick one that fits with the event.

Yeah, that's about it... not asking you to help in the promotion designs. Just basically notifying that a lot of the current events will be needing adjusting soon is all. Some of these events include what amounts to 'equipment upgrade proxies' and that may present an odd disconnect from the new equipment system so could be rethought somewhat (like wootz steel... perhaps could give a nation unique access to a wootz steel resource to allow for all equipments to have wootz steel versions given out to the units of the nation that developed this powerful alloy.) Surely we'd work out the details on those equipments but the event itself would need to change quite a bit to account for the difference.

The Harry Potter event was put in because it was what was happening at the time. Not the library bit but the religious condemnation bit.

I have similar trouble with the dock strike event, but then I am from a background with strong union involvement in a country which already did what a lot of the communists wanted to do back in the early 1900's but had a liberal (conservative/republican) government.

But the way it was written was very inflammatory, which is bad. We don't need to call anyone "wackos" ingame, or make fun of religion. I myself am a religious person, and am offended by that event. Not because I hate harry potter, I don't, but because I object to being called names.

It just needs to remove the reference to a specific religion and it's fine.

For early game Events:

(Requires persistance Hunting):
"A wild NameOfAnimal with an unusual fur color was spottet next CityName!"
-> Animal with Promotion "Special" or similar appears

If you kill it: "A brave Hunter managed to kill the NameOfAnimal and now wears it's fur as symbol of his hunting skills" -> Free Promotion Hunter I or Combat I or something that fits.

If you subdue it: "We subdued the NameOfAnimal! What should we do?"

1) Butcher it and hand its fur to the Hunter who subdued it (same result as above)
2) Let our Bards spread its myth all over the world! -> One time +100 Culture in City (Requires Prehistoric Music)
3) Enclose it and take a fee from everyone who wants to see it -> + 3 Culture per turn and +2 gold per turn (Requires Trade, Requires Managerie OR Circus OR "whatever the names of buildings like this are")

For all: "NameOfCivilization Hunters managed to hunt a black tiger/white lion, purble kangaroo with yellow stripes (or just colorfull animal)!"

-----

After a Unit was killed by an animal:

"Our Hunters was attacked by a very dangerous and violent NameOfAnimal! We should kill it and sacrifice it in honour of our fallen companions!"

-> Animal is get the Promotion "Violent"

Once killed: "We sacrificed the animal and it is no longer a risk for our people!" -> +1 Happiness for 30 Turns in all Cities

To all: "NameOfCiv Hunters killed a dangerous and violent Animal"

------

(Requires Shelterbuilding):
"While digging a hole for our new homes, we found a source of water!" -> Provides Fresh Water in the City.

to all: "NameOfCiv found a source of fresh water in CityName"

---

(Requires Shamanism OR Mysticism; Obsoletes with uhm... Psychology?):
"One of our shamans seems to be cursed by an ancient demon! Our citizens are afraid and some even left the town!" -> -10 Food in City"

To all: "The inhabitants of CityName leave the town because they are afraid of demon!"

---

(Requires Herbalism; Obsoletes with Soap):

---
(Requires Gathering; Obsoletes with Agriculture)
"Some kids used to spit the pit of some berries, which caused some berry bushes to grow there!" -> Free buildings Berry Bushes is built.

(do you really need to add messages from such events to all players? It isnt such a big deal I think...)

---
(Requires the earliest fishing Tech)
"Our hunters/scouts.... discovered a place in the river where salmons are very easy to catch once a year!"-> +1Food on this plot

----

Btw: What about new (or old?) Quests like: build 6 Forges!
Havent seen them for a while...

It has been suggested that we have events that spawn Subdued Animals from the animal built buildings. Here is my first set of suggestions based on the herd buildings.

Horse Herd
  • A subdued horse - no cost
  • A Horseman - requires stable, cost half normal cost
  • A Horse Archer - requires stable and (fletcher or archery range), cost half normal cost
  • A Knight - requires Knight Stable, cost ditto
  • A Calvary - requires stable and tech calvary, cost ditto

Similarly for Kennels, Bison, Elephant, Camel, Zebra, Llama and Mammoth. Elephants may also make a Worker unit. Herd Buffalo gives a subdued buffalo or buffalo worker. Poultry flock gives a subdued duck and Ratite herd a subdued emu.

Probability for all these is very low and go obsolete with Cloning.
