damnit i want civ now! i was excited about the december release date because i had three weeks off from work for the holidays (which ends tomorrow just in time for a civ release) bastards! i'm gonna take it out on the french when i get the game.

Thanks, Drahkkael and AlanH, for a hilarious few posts there.

And, I, too, would be interested in knowing others' thoughts on what other turn-based strategy games are worthwhile.

Wait a sec, about that "work" idea.
I hope that we can run civ complete like civII: I used to be able to quickly hide that when anyone "important" ambled by (that included my wife). Did a lot of "work" in those days. Now I can't do that.:mischief:

Command-H is your friend with any "work" application that you need to shift off your desktop fast. Civ3 always responded to it, and I'm sure Brad will have stayed true to the Mac interface for Complete.

You'll also have the option to run it in a window. ;)

My first computer game was Strategic Conquest on a LCII. It's a turn-based game made by Delta Tao, and it is still out there - just a much more recent version. You and the AI start out w/ x number of cities and begin building up your military in search of the enemy. Along the way, you come across neutral cities which you should assimilate before the enemy. There were 15 difficulty levels. I payed mostly on level 12, but did win once or twice on the higher levels - just too damn tough.

Stratcon was awesome. It's what got me into Civilization in the first place. I played it in college during the majority of my free time. I always had to kick my roomate and my suitemates off of it so I could play. One last old school gaming question for mac. Does anyone remember a game imported by Maxis from Japan. I remember it being about trains and how to get the best use out of them.. back to civ

You don't mean Railroad Tycoon, do you? That was another of Sid's games. Very very addictive.

Like an early version of RT, the flavor of the trains was very much japanese as were the buildings, it had an isometric view of both. It had night and day simulated. However it did look a bit like an early version of simcity. Thats all I remember, and yes i'm still waiting for my c3c.

That would be Amazon US, I guess. Amazon UK hasn't changed the product status, or my order status. Still saying dispatch between 7th and 14th

Hi all-
That train game was "A-Train" and had a definite Japanese flavor to it, as the "reward" was the bullet train coming. I still have it and open it up every now and then for old times sake. It was one of those games where you could leave it on all night to build up resources (or go bankrupt) and come back the next day to build your empire!:king:

Cool thanks wally, i lost my disks to it a long time ago. Someone had asked me about that game recently too.

If you mean your retailer is shipping - eg Amazon - that's great! Tell us all about it when you get it. Aspyr status has been shipping to the retailers for a while now but yours would be the first reported siting of end-customer shipping status.

yes they are shipping. I received the note of great importance in my email this morning saying "it" has been shipped. We shall play the wait and see game. I never count my chickens till they've hatched. :)

My local retailer emailed me with the news that they were supposed to get it here in Vermont "in the next couple of days" so I should see it soon.
Question for the experts: will any saved games from the vanilla Civ III port over to the new version? I know they're produced by different companies but I hope the saved files will be compatible.

MacSoft's 1.29b2 saves are indistinguishable from PC 129f saves - trust me, I have to handle the saves from both versions using GOTM submission software. So assuming the Aspyr software handles PC-comnpatible saves it ought to open a MacSoft save.

Right, they should work but I can't say we heavily tested this aspect. I did fix a few bugs related to opening vanilla 1.29 saves in Conquests 1.22 so that part is the most tested. I suspect opening 1.29 saves in PtW 1.27 will also work, but I don't believe anyone tried that.

Sounds like you've shaken the flu, Brad? Good to see you out and about again :)

Unfortunately, I chose their "FREE Super Saver Shipping" and so they shipped via USPS with an estimated delivery of February 3rd.

Hopefully the package will get here just a bit quicker than that!
