The Second Battle of Avignon
Last week,
League forces attacked
5 units outside
Avignon. This battle, known as the first battle of Avignon, resulted in the deaths of 4 of these 5 units and caused severe damage to the
League forces at
Avignon.
The
guard at Avignon, believing themselves safe from further attack, neglected to guard their posts. They were roused in the morning by the sounds of over
10 Reiter regiments at the gates of
Avignon.
Following a fierce battle all of the
League forces at
Avignon were slaughtered. (
1 Veteran Landsknecht, 1 Veteran Musketman, 1 Veteran Pikeman, 1 Regular milita and 1 Regular Knight)
The
French Reiters only lost 1 regiment.
Henry of Navarre took full credit for the planning and executing of the battle.
A
League musketman was killed north of
Avignon following the battle.
Additional Coastal Fighting
After the capture of
Avignon, some
Reiters moved south and captured
Marseilles. A
milita was killed in the fighting and several
carracks were burned.
The forces at
Aix, having been informed that the garrison at
Avignon was weaker than expected and noticing
Pikemen units gaurding the city, decided not to attack. Additional troops were moved near
Aix.
Near
Dijon, a
Rider was killed by a
Musketman.
The Western Front
After the excitement at
Avignon, we nearly forgot to report the capture of
Argenton. A
Milita regiment as well as a
Pikeman Regiment were killed in the fighting.
A
Reiter was killed near
Nantes by a
Musketman. The cities bordering the
League, were fortified and are expected to hold against attack.
