Can Americans get the BBC?

I'll listen to the world service over the internet if I run out of podcasts.

Yeah the BBC relies on TV lisences to get money (£70 per household), but its good becase i don't get adverts on 2/5 of basic channels.

Yes, the BBC is available in the US, though it is usually only in "premium" television packages.

I used to watch BBC News when I was on exchange in the States, it was nice having a piece of home over there (and it was certainly better than the abysmal Fox News). I think it came after CNN (or was part of the channel in some way)?

For some reason though, the colour was a bit off. Perhaps that's due to the conversion from PAL to NTSC?

Does it really? I love that show. Capt. Jack is dreamy. I hope there is another season. . That old guy is soooo creepy.

Oh yes. I've been torturing my brain weekly for a few months now.

Capt. Jack is a great character. But the writing on the show has been obscenely bad punctuated by brief glimmers of hope.

All that said, it's been very slowly getting better. (I've seen all but the season finale.) I'm hoping it gets another chance...and maybe a new bunch of writers.

It does take off slow and gradually gets better. But we know by way of the DR. that Torchwood is a very big part of that universe so it can have a very deep pool of story line to pull from. Better writing and a better female lead would do wonders. They should fill the year they are going skip for the DR. with new Torchwood.

I can live with the current cast. I might even be able to live with the current writers, but....

They need to lose the fascination with gratuitous sex. I mean, I understand that this isn't Doctor Who, and that one of the intentions of the show is to spice it up a bit. That's fine. I have no problem with sex. I think that used correctly, sex can be a powerful plot device. But there is more to life than sex...especially when one's job involves chasing aliens. It seems like the writers feel they have some kind of sex quota they're obliged to meet. Some of them are fine if a bit far-fetched, others are just downright ludicrous.
Spoiler :
Two men dancing together and kissing in public in 1941? Uh...no.
I can't help but feel the series will improve immensely when they stop feeling the need to demonstrate how dark and sexy they are in such a ham-handed fashion. Sex and violence are fine, but they're elements of a story...they don't make a story all by themselves.

WHAT?!?!?!
Is that for black-and-white?
I had to pay L 135.50 for our license.
Maybe they're just soaking us foreigners. :hmm:

@OP: For the record, I'm an American who gets the BBC all the time . . .
but you probably weren't interested in ex pats. ;)

(Long live the Doctor. :yup: )

Aye the sex bit is a tad to much. Capt Jack humps every one! Alot of it does just seam forced. Although more lesbian sex would be awesome. The best eppy IMO was the Cannibal village one. No sex as far as I remember in that one. A cameo of the Doc. would be nice.

They can be a bit prudish sometimes, ever notice how when ever they dance and talk about dancing they actually mean sex? How many times they substitute sex for dancing on the show?

After you chased those aliens, why not have sex with them?
otherwise what's the point....

Better writing and a better female lead would do wonders.

By all accounts, Captain Jack is, near as dammit, a female lead.

Nope, they'll just never understand :mischief:

Just as well.... socialist funded tv in the land of the tax break.

THAT was uncalled for!
I'll have you know, I get at least 50% of the jokes on CBeebies. :p
;)

Random question, do you get
CBeebies channel, CBBC channel ,BBC 1,2 ,3,4 ?

Yeah it usually requires you pay a little extra on your satellite or cable bill thou. All of the good programs end up on PBS :king:

BBCAmerica is part of our package, so technically we're not paying anything extra.
