My right eye has been aching a bit for the past week, and I find that I can't close that eyelid as smoothly as the other. It's subtle, not even annoying, but I'm scared that it's a symptom of something worse. (Yes, I am planning a seeing a doctor, yada yada.)

At first I figured it was my glasses (always slightly bent) screwing up how my eyes focus. And indeed it seems to get worse when I wear them. But now I think my right eye could be bulging. I mean, it looks totally normal, but my symptoms don't seem to match the admittedly little I've read about eyelid inflammation, and my right eyelid feels perfectly fine. It feels like it's having trouble closing over my eye.

Oh, and I pressed on the eye to get a bit of dirt or something out from under my eyelid. About a week ago. Yes, I know that coincidence is hard to believe, but I've done that before in the past and my eye never had any problems.

What does this sound like to you?

Could be some crap causing pressure behind the eye. Obviously something to check up.

Record yourself blinking naturally. Record yourself forcefully closing one eye and then the other in sequence. It's much more obvious watch it on tape than trying to see it in the mirror.

If there's a notable difference, see a doctor.

I'm seeing a doctor regardless. But I doubt you would see much difference. The reason I'm nervous is because certain tumors can cause an eye to bulge outward. Otherwise, I'm fine with it.

Are you experiencing any nasal, ear, or mouth difficulties? The close link between those organs and your eyes may create a problem. You can try taking some NyQuil tonight to see if that helps clear any congestion.

Nup, no way. I mean, I always sniffle and I haven't cleaned out my ears in like two weeks (keep forgetting to buy Q-tips), but can that really cause your eye to bulge out?

It is night, I'm in Israel, and I don't have any NyQuil.

Yeah. Ear and nose problems can create eye ones as your sinuses are close to your eyes. You may just want to try a dose of any decongestant. Might want to talk it through with the pharmacist before taking anything just to be sure.

I assume you are not having any lymph swelling or other aches and pains. It sounds to me like this probably a localized problem with your eye. That said, trying a decongestant for the night probably would not hurt anything.

You may also want to try just flushing your eye with water if you haven't already.

It's almost certainly terminal cancer.

Spoiler :
I am NOT a qualified doctor. But be quick in posting a reply. You may only have minutes of life left.

I might be able to, but I'm such a jerk I would use really fine print that you couldn't read.

I'd second Rashiminos in suggesting eye strain. I sometimes get a twitchy eyelid when my eyes are feeling tired and sometimes my cheekbone seems to ache sometimes (but that's probably the overlying muscle instead). Eyes are muscles and they need to be exercised just as much as your other muscles, so remember to blink if your eyes are feeling tired and to take regular breaks from the screen. (When you're doing so, look out the window and focus on something in the mid-distance for 20-30 seconds. Your eyes will appreciate the change in focal length.)

I don't think such threads are supposed to be allowed.

But if that isn't the case, then I would like to vote for aggressive malignant cancer which will require removal of the eye within 2 days or spread to becoming terminal brain and testicular cancer.

This post may, or may not be serious.

Reads like eyestrain. When you see your doctor you may also want to discuss sleeping habits.

Hmm? Why?

That's hard to believe. It doesn't hurt more when I'm at the computer- just when I'm wearing my glasses. And I haven't been spending much more time on a computer than usual.

I don't think so. I've seen plenty of other health questions asked on this forum.

Thanks for responses everyone.

As you mentioned removing some "dirt" it might be some kind of stye.
It might also be a matter of blood pressure if it concerns both eyes.
A friend of mine once accidentally chipped away a piece of his cornea with his finger while shadow boxing => nothing is impossible

So please go and see a doctor.
