Can you spell when typing?

I very rarely make spelling mistakes when typing. Before, I used to make them a lot so the backspace key was one of the first keys I learned to touch type with.

Well errors are definitely more common when typing fast in informal internet settings.... but if it weren't for these errors we wouldn't have Internet meme's like "pwn" and "teh".

I can generally spell the same as i can in real life, occasionally i might hold down on a key longer and for some reason not be able to spell 'spell' or 'know', spelling them 'spelk' and 'knwo' but thats about it.

My most common spelling mistake while typing is a matter of reflexes, not typing. I tend to accidently capitalize the second letter of a word that begins with a capital letter, usually when beginning a sentence. The problem is I don't let go of the shift key quickly enough. Also, considering a mistake I made in writing this, I have a tendency to "complete" words that don't need to be completed. The first time I was typing "mistake", I added an n so it was "mistaken".

oh yes, I left out that I often capitalize random words in the middle of sentences.

Why yes, I Do like to Play [civ4], don't you think It's a great Game?

this is not an issue of not being able to spell- you know the word is wrong.. merely a typo.

I can spell very well both when typing and speaking... I won 2nd place in the City Spelling Bee last year :D.

I often notice that I'm doing a typo because the key felt wrong when I hit it - wrong place, or hitting two at once or similar. I suspect that the typos I make and fail to catch make up for the autocorrecting of words I can't spell anyway, so there's probably not much improvement. There's also the "stop highlighting that, you stupid machine, it is a real word" effect that slows me up: I have to go back and tell Word many of the science words I use. I also used to be a terrible speller, and my handwriting is still rather spiky and uncomfortable to read; but I take a minor pride in spelling correctly and using grammar and punctuation correctly too.

My spelling on the computer is only slightly worse than that in RL.

I hate you with a passion, I wish I could spell or even write in English sometimes. Damn I have to edit every post a half a million times referring to dictionaries for spelling :D Bastard ;)

I'm a writer, and a crusader for Internet grammar rules. When I see typical teen xanga-speak online I get a twitch.

 You made me cry!!

MY spelling sucks period but is worse typeing because of the keys. Dyslexic as I am you would think that should be less prominant when I type but it isn't. There is something wrong with my brain that the "b, p, d," keys get mixxed up. It doesn't help either that I gave up on even trying to spell when in fourth grade I failed a spelling test because for some reason I spell words with a brittish flair like colour, programme, flavour, ect. and put lines through my "Z" and "7".

Hmm... I seem to be typing the wrong words.... like I tried to type "sounds", but it came out as "should"...

i dunno if im getting dyslectic or if its too much brain damage from smoking the pot, but sometimes i think one thing and type something entirely diffrent!

like im thinking "two" but i type to, or too!
the other day i was thinking about "blues", but kept typing "jazz" instead!

wth is that?

Spelling is not a problem. Typing what i want to say is. Sometimes, i just skip words for no apparent reason. My handwriting is atrocious though. Even i cant read it!

Come on now, are we really all so fat we can only mash the keypad with our stubby fingers?

/jk!!

More seriously, it took me a few years to get good at touch-typing but now I make only occasional mistakes. Once you can touch-type you can watch the screen as you type and if you make a mistake you can delete it can carry on in a heartbeat.

If you've been using a PC for a few years and can't do it yet, I suggest you start by putting your index fingers on the F and J keys (they have bumps on to guide your fingers), and resting your fingers on the keys going out from them on the middle row. When you want to type a letter use the nearest finger and return it to it's key. Within a few months you will be touch-typing!
