I know that Americans like to call Canada "America Junior". I also know that it was a historical accident that Canadian territories did not become member states of the USA - a recognition of continuing British power in the 19th century. But are Canadians (excluding Quebec) so similar to the people to the south, and is the USA so powerful, that Canada is destined to join the USA? Would independence for Quebec make this more likely? Or is the tradition of a Canada-USA contrast so strong that it would never happen?
