French Government of 1890

Emperor Louis-Philippe Albert d'Orléans

After the death of Napoleon II and with no direct heir to the throne the monarchists were hard-pressed to find a suitable figure. After a few months of indesicion the figure of Louis-Philippe arose as the most likely to fit the monarchist goals. Louis-Philippe served as an officer and then as a general in the French Army and had a claim on the throne through the Orleans line. After he was crowned he steadily took control and with the help of his ministers conducted a steady moderate policy for France.

First Minister Jules Simon

Jules Simon is a liberal statesman and politician. He served in the French Army for a short period of time and comes from a small aristocratic family. He has a number of disagreements with the Emperor, but holds his position due to his brilliant political skill that is needed by the Emperor.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Louis Decazes

Decazes is a strong monarchist and a hard liner. He is probably the most reactionary member of the Cabinet of Ministers and is often seen as unfit to serve as the country's main diplomat because of his reluctancy to compromise. His policies however have worked over the last few years and so far he has drawn more praise than critisism.

Minister of War Jean Auguste Berthaud

An old Marshal of France. He has never been a good strategist, but he is a brilliant administrator. Under his rule the Army has been reformed a number of times to increase efficiency. He, however, holds some very conservative views that interfere with reforms sometimes.

Minister of Fincance Léon Say

Finances have always been a problem for France. Leon Say managed to hold the position of Minister in this area for a few years, although is not expected to last long. France has went from one type of reform to another over the last years, searching desperatley for the way that will lead to some stability and prosperity.

Minister of Marine and Colonies Martin Fourichon

The man who is in charge of the overseas empire. He apoints and demotes the Viceroys in the colonies and is in charger of security and trade for them. His biggest competition are the British, but he has led a moderate quite policy over the last years and managed to stay in power.

I don't want to do so, especially on the first turn, but I'm going to have to ask Capulet to NPC the UK for this turn. I'm going away tomorrow and don't have time tonight to write orders. I'll be back on Thursday.
