Capto Iugulum Background Thread

Jehoshua if what you said was true then everywhere but in the most theistic or retrograde societies religion would have been made "obsolete" a long time ago. That is of course assuming I understand your argument, which I admittedly may not.

Religion can in fact be concurrent with secular culture without it being somehow subsumed or obsoleted.

You're not understanding the argument I made. I was not talking about religion being concurrent with a secular culture (which as you say, religion can exist alongside with without being subsumed), but rather when a religion compromises itself by changing its core doctrine (as compared to exterior particulars) to suit the currently dominant secular thought (and by this I mean more specifically secularism).

Anyways, as I said I won't perpetuate the argument by going into further detail on this.

@Karikon: Dominions cannot determine their own tariffs, in the specific case of the British dominions in this NES. You also cannot control any foreign policy without British approval.

For those of you still paying attention to this thread, I have a special treat for you:

Yes! We now have a wiki. I'm working on slowly porting all updates ever to the new wiki, and from there other pages can be expanded. At the moment you do have to register and log in to actually edit or add articles, and I suggest you do so. For now, I'd be most appreciative of anyone who took up the cause of bringing over the updates, as it is a rather lot of work. I've already completed the updates for 1830-1835, for example of the proper formatting.

I've added update 6 and formatted as per the previous updates. I'll go through and add more updates when I get the time/energy. You might want to add the wiki link to a front page somewhere to make it easier to find.

I've added a 1903.

Hey EQ, maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see the option to edit pages that other people have worked on or created. I'm looking at 1847, and it's got a bit of a formatting issue, but it's not giving me the option of editing, so I can't fix it.

Also, I think it would be useful to have an image of the world map at the end of every entry. I'd be willing to go back and insert either a link to the image or the image itself, if I can figure out how to go in an edit a page someone else has created.

EQ locks the updates after they're put up so they can't be tampered with. I'm pretty sure he also has other plans for the maps and stats.

Historical stats would be great.

I hadn't thought to do all stats ever, but actually that's perfectly doable. Maps will be going up after all the updates are up and edited. Thanks to Quisani though for already doing the 1903 map, that'll save time later. Also, continued thanks to Justo and BILLSIF for putting up the ones they have put up so far. My only goal at this moment is to get the wiki up and running by the 1940 update, which means approximately by September at the current estimated rate of update arrival.

I just thought of a fourth Key Tenet of Capto Iugulum.

4. Even if you win, you're probably not going to live to enjoy it.

Think about it. America: won the Great War, then collapsed under its own weight and its co-conspirators in the Great War turned on it. Destroyed the only country which would have assisted it. Arabian Empire: won the Great War too, then stagnated for ten years before its own allies put it out of its misery. Republican Spain: won the 3rd SCW with Franco-Burgundian help, completely taken apart by the Germans not ten years later. The FBC and Holland: won the SCW as well, taken completely unprepared when the Germans and Italians actually learned something from the war and got annihilated and ceased to exist as nations. Italy: won the last European War, but war exhaustion was so bad that they lost almost all their gains right afterwards.

It really is Capto Iugulum's greatest irony.

(Actually the Greatest Irony is the fact that the United States collapsed after betraying and destroying the only ally that would have helped it, but taken together all of those are the Greatest)

The Arabian Empire only fell because of a stupid last moment decision one late night. It's what I deserved for playing OOC and not keeping up with things. Still as always Arabia stood against far greater odds and cost her opponents far more than they bargained for. Arabia will forever be known as the cause of the Great War and one of the key reasons for Allied victory and Spanish collapse.

You mean that one late night conversation we had where I was like, "Yeah, invade Oman!"

Brazil I would say is more than most secure from national decay a la Spain or the United States since its geographically pretty self-contained, and because it has developed a moral and ideological consensus which stabilises the nation against internal chaos. I am of course not saying Brazil going the way of Spain is impossible, that would be absurd, but it has a lower chance than say Germany or Britain with on the one hand a neighbour of questionable intent, and on the other a decaying colonial Empire which actually drains resources in the case of certain dominions.

EQ: What do the heavy/light/medium tank classifications mean? How do you determine which tanks go into which category?

Scandinavia: Created Russia in order to prevent German unification. Allies with unified Germany against Russia.
