Capto Iugulum Background Thread

I don't really see diplomatic distancing from Britain coming anytime soon; Dominion status aside, Britain is (arguably) Guangxi's most powerful neighbor, and its only neighbor that it doesn't have potentially conflicting territorial claims with. Culturally however, and perhaps governmentally, I think that the higher-ups in Guangxi have come to realize that the nationalism sparked by the Fireworks Wars favors a shift away from Anglicization, which really never was popular in the first place. Guangxi its still trying to establish its own identity, which is something that has eluded me through my year of playing it; its Dominion status complicates any attempt to look like a legitimate Chinese government, while (in my completely unbiased opinion) it remains the best place for a Chinese person to live in the Capto universe, being democratic (unlike the Realm) and domestically ruled by Chinese (unlike Japanese China). Regardless, I think that Guangxi and the Qing monarchs will continue to see the British as their closest allies for the foreseeable future, though I do believe that there is growing resentment to the persisting, subservient title of Dominion.

Yeah, the end of Anglicanization does not mean that the Dominion is breaking away; the policy was cultural in nature, and was more damaging to the Empire politically. They also still maintain the right to domestic rule. Regarding Qing resenting Dominion status, all I have to say is every daimyo dreams of being shogun.

Meanwhile, in Russia:

I just saw this in my newsfeed while doing CI stuff and LOLed.

*grumble* Japan is not China *grumble*

Actually Continental Japan has a nice ring to it...

No, no. Mainland Japan. Implying its the continent and not the islands where Japanese roots lay.

I might have misspoken; the Japanese would have you believe that China is West Japan.

I think he's grumbling about my reference to feudal Japan. (I dunno, maybe there was something else I could say? "Every prince wishes he were king"? "Every senator wishes he were President"?)

As I said, a tangential shift away from British influence is occurring. This of course does not necessarily mean immediate calls for an end to association with the British Empire, but it can only result in a cumulative effect in a couple of decades time. Particularly if Britain continues to weaken, and persists in its current... position, regarding Guangxi's dominion status.

Oh and on Burgundy, Burgundy's problem was that it had no claim to Empire to begin with, which pissed off the Church (which traditionally had the rights to recognise Catholic Emperors [HR Emperor was only "Emperor Elect" unless he was crowned by the Pope for example IRL]) and a goodly number of its neighbours I suspect. The Qing in Guangxi on the other hand have a direct link to the old Chinese Empire, and only lost imperial status in the eyes of the world due to an unfortunate series of events involving armed conflict that resulted in its downfall. Guangxi's Kings, if they claimed Empire, would have a very legitimate position from which to assert that claim.

What is TWTUD?

The World Turned Upside Down, a very fun NES EQ did a whole ago where I (as the US) killed Congress in order to annex South America, Crezth (as Germany) nuked most of Europe and Lucky (as Dar al Islam aka most of the Middle East) waged holy war against, well, everyone.

Fun times
