Capto Iugulum Background Thread

If I'm going to be blocked from taking the USA, I'll just finish off my fight as Jacksonia.

I signed the treaty under the impression I would be playing the United States. If I'm not going to, I'd like the posts pertaining to it to be made non-canon.

NO. NO. NO. A thousand times, please NO.

Spoiler :
NO

You did it. Now you deal with it.

I should just add that if I were to be the USA, then I should like the treaty to be redacted anyway. It's unfair to TMG otherwise, and would also be an unrealistic startpoint for me to play from.

I'm also happy to take the UK if Circuit takes the USA, unless there's already someone else in that position on the merry-go-round. :p But I would have thought that for Britain's consistency's sake (and also for the sake of me not being too near to the Confederation) it would be better for me to take the USA and Circuit to stick where he is, if we did that.

A perfect trade, in my opinion. I trust Spry with the UK, though he will quickly discover how complicated and stressful the UK is (and why it has such a high turnover rate). The USA is also more befitting my RL pace anyway; It's hard to run a CI great power and juggle studdying for econometrics, discrete mathematics, and linear algebra (both the math classes being proof heavy; anyone who knows what proofs are I'm sure can sympathize). It will be kinda funny for the transition from Russia = enemy to Russia = friend, but I think I can take it.

Also, Nuke saying he won't sign the deal if he can't take control of the USA just goes to show how bogus it is.

I'd rather play USA, though, on the whole. As I say, I'd rather not get mixed up in Europe while the Confederation is in such a state of flux, and I also am interested in forging a new character for the USA beyond nukeian jingoism and sorting out its obvious domestic problems, while I have no immediate thoughts as to what to do with the UK (although I could undoubtedly find some ideas if necessary).

Whelp, at this time, I have no idea what's going on.

Don't worry EQ. Happens to every mod.

Solution: Reread the NES from the very beginning, every post, from CEIN.

No worries, the task has been delegated.

With regards to Japans role in the whole thing, it was more pragmatics than anything. Empires gotta build, and if had thought we could blackmail the other countries into giving us the land we earned, we would've gladly done.

@Justo: There's something that always confused me regarding Germany and the UK's later betrayal of the Arabian Empire. We had a defensive pact, which you never envoked (to my personal relief). Why didn't you ever try to get Japan involved to help keep your empire from collapsing?

The Arabian Empire was facing off against Oman, Yemen, Persia, The UK, Germany and Italy. Involving Japan wasn't going to change things so I just decided to take as many down with me as possible. Ultimately I should have played smarter (and not started the war when I did) but impatience got the better of me.

I now wait for the inevitable return of Arabia. ;)

I'd be happy to take over the UK, USA, or whatever else ends up happening I don't even know any more.

If something ends up becoming available I'd like to consider it at the very minimum, is what I'm saying.

Circuit, I'd be happy to trade you nations ;)

So wait, is the Reclamation War over or not?

@EQ- is the 1920-1939 thread still active? If not, where should we be posting diplo? Or are we not supposed to be doing anything til the new thread?

The war is still on.

Diplomacy is still ok for the 1920-1939 thread until the new thread is active. All of it is still valid.

@Lord_Iggy: Sorry for the delayed response, I've had to research all my old notes and so forth to figure out what the history was there. I'll have something for you today.

...meanwhile, as the political parties of the Confederation organize...

Also, EQ, the image for the Canadian communist symbol is on the first page of this background thread is a bit ugly, especially if people want to use it for their own flag designs, so I went about editing and colouring this one for everyone's use (I left it big so it could be scaled easily):

Note: the red I used is not particularly revolutionary (it was selected to match the French flag's red), so I could change that if you like.

@J.K. Stockholme: Thank you my good man, I'll be adding that where appropriate over my old ones.

In Regards to North American Colonization: I left this part of history in my notes deliberately vague with exception of a very rough outline. Obviously this is because there's many reasons why butterflies would not allow the creation of a USA along similar lines as to OTL. For this I remain with my standby response: If the multi-verse is a real thing, then everything has happened somewhere, even stuff in NESes. The reason I left things vague was to allow for players to fill in blanks where needed and if they wanted to, and unfortunately, this really hasn't happened as much as I'd like. Hopefully this will change with the free to edit wiki and ability to adjust things whenever you feel like it for all to see.

The history of North American colonization was somewhat similar in regards to Canada, with the Swedes taking the place of the French in the region. I'm assuming that the colonization in the New Jersey area which took place historically was instead redirected further north. In this timeline, instead of the British eventually emerging victorious, it was the Swedes who managed to defeat the British militarily and maintain control over the region for the most part. The Swedes lacked the manpower or ability however to influence things further south (a major factor in events in CIEN) allowing the British to develop and expand. The Spanish were a bigger influence here, being the first to scout up the Mississippi River, having been blocked from expansion to the west (and California) by the vicious warriors of the Aztecs. It's possible Spanish explorers could have made it as far north as central Vinland, but I'd say fairly unlikely.

That's about all I have set in stone on things, so Iggy, I'll leave it to you to take it from there.
