We have explained to you privately, and will do so now in a more public manner, that our decision to break off our defensive alliance with you was purely based on the support you still give to Russia. We don't wish to be allied to the barbarians in the east through proxy. We wish for good relations with the Confederation, but your support of the decadent regime in Moscow makes that difficult. If at any point your unnecessary alliance with the horde is broken, Austria will be first in line to reapply for a defensive treaty with you. Until that is the case however, we must stay removed from you diplomatically.

From the Confederation

We understand this perfectly and even sympathise somewhat, but it is, as we explained to Britain, of course a necessary consequence of this that you can not, while you have no alliance with us, avail yourself of whatever protection the Confederation can offer you.

You forget yourself. It was the United Kingdom that ferried hundreds of thousands of Poles to safety in the flight. It was the United Kingdom that gave Vinlander ships free harbor and the resources they need to safely reach Prussian harbors. It was and remains the United Kingdom that stands strong against Russia's continued policies of abhorrent murder. The Confederation? The Confederation sits in their nice little League and passes all manners of fine looking documents and abrogations, declarations and condemnations, but never once has lifted a finger to help the Poles and the Prussians when they needed it most. The blood of hundreds of thousands is drying on your hands, and all you care about is making sure the murderer doesn't come for you next. All you do is sit, fat and comfortable in Paris, hanging to the rear on every issue so that if the League goes under you'll still remain afloat. You're a nation of unprincipled cowards.

We can't quite see how you can view it as reasonable to use Russia's words as an explanation of our motives when our own words on the subject are more than abundant. We are happy to work with anybody whom we think is acting in the interests of international peace and for the common benefit of everybody.

All of that is utterly unprincipled calumny and unsubstantiated abuse that we have satisfactorily dismissed already. The fact remains that we have copious achievements already to boast of as a consequence of our policy, whereas you clearly have a little, but not very much, indeed, to say that you have achieved in any fashion towards either peace or justice.

OOC: Don't bother; they're all dead or elsewhere. Though, I guess there may be Poles who want to leave

OOC: Well, we didn't specify who we were picking up, and I did downscale the operation by 75% this year, so I'm basically just holding the door open in case of stragglers.

Spain wishes to note that it terminated the Defensive Pact of Barcelona with the Confederation solely because we had no desire to be obliged to defend Russia by proxy. If the Confederation terminated their alliance with the Russians and ceased to defend them from justice, then we would be completely and entirely happy to restore the alliance.

The Confederation is not strapped for allies - it is just choosing Russia over almost every other nation in europe, for some reason.

President Curtis Johnathan Wareing
June 5th, 1827 to July 4th, 1909

Curtis Johnathan Wareing was born June 5th, 1827, to his loving parents Amelia and Johnathan in Annapolis, Maryland. He was an intelligent and crafty boy in his youth, but aloof from the other children and generally preferred the company of the adults. When Wareing turned 18 he was trained as an officer and received his commission a few weeks before the outbreak of the War of the American Presidency. He fought in the war for the United States Army under President Scott, serving a fine job as a lieutenant and was involved in many critical battles of the war, including the defense of Washington from the Gubernatorial rebellion. After the war, Wareing rose through the ranks quickly. He was transferred out West to protect the American settlers from savage raiders, initially. His skill and cunning eventually lead to his promotion to general, while at the same time falling in love with his lovely wife Allison Chesterfield, and raising a family of five children, Hudson, James, Mary, Wilbur, and Emily. He fought against the mighty Apache tribe during the native wars of the 1860's as the United States solidified control over the West. He defeated and removed the Apache, and for his commendable work, President Mahan appointed General Wareing to the position of District General of the District of Apache, in which Wareing served until 1888, when he was elected the President of the United States of America.

President Wareing's leadership helped protect the American territory in Panama from South American aggression during the Colombian War, and to prevent an invasion of the United States proper. Under Wareing's leadership, the United States endured a massive economic boom and rose to be an international power and a player on the world stage. He completed the Panama Canal in record time, a project that is certainly to be a wonder of the world and has been a major economic benefit to not only to Panama but to the United States as a nation. He lead the United States to victory during the Great War, securing strong relations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and grew the territory of the United States to stretch further across the globe. Major economic and technological progress was made during his administration, and the United States is now poised to be a leader on the world stage.

President Wareing died to complications resulting from his age during his sleep, ironically on Independence Day, 1909, one year after the end of the Great War and on the birthday of the nation. He was 82 years old. He is proceeded in death by his parents Amelia and Johnathan, his son James who was killed in New Spain, his daughter Emily who died of pneumonia, and his beloved wife Allison, who also died of old age in 1908, the day after peace with the Empire of Spain was signed. He is survived and mourned by his children Hudson, Mary, and Wilbur, his younger brothers Grant and Florence, his younger sister Rose, and by his nation.

A viewing will be held July 6th in the White House, after which the President's body will be transported by train to his birthplace of Annapolis, where a second viewing will be held on July 7th and the funeral held July 8th.

You have spoken no "words" on the subject. You have spun a web of lies and demonstrated you either do not understand allegiance or, perhaps, that you understand it too well.

So you disapprove of Russia. So you have castigated them, denounced them, spoken ill of their deeds. And? This is supposed to impress us? Impress them? Your actions have done nothing but enable Russia to continue their policies unstopped - ours have saved lives. And we would have Russia halt their murder, but you seem content to let it lie. You say you have denounced them, but in reality? You condone them. You have taken every very fine legal principle to the maximum extent you could to pardon Russia by passing league declarations and speaking very finely. You may expel them from your impotent "League," you may swear their name so long as it serves other nations well to hear you do so, but so long as you promise to stand by Russia in war, they have nothing to fear from you. They know that they may continue raping and murdering and pillaging. They may do whatever they want because they know that if anyone tries to stop them, you will save them. You will do it in the name of peace, too. Russia will snap the necks of millions and you will support them at gunpoint and smile. And with a wry smirk you will remark that you do it for peace.

As far as we're concerned, the Confederation is as guilty for Russia's crimes as Russia herself. We demand you shatter your defensive alliance with the Russians. Maybe then we will see that the Confederation has a heart.

Hardly, but the fact is that you ask for denunciations, and so denunciations you will get precisely so far as our denunciations extend.

Your actions have done nothing but enable Russia to continue their policies unstopped - ours have saved lives.

Ours too! and we would say many more than yours. You gave harbour to Vinlander ships and shipped out Poles from their motherland as you callously betrayed them; we sent ships along with the Vinlander ones, indeed our entire new navy and many merchant ships, as well as whatever ships the rest of the League sent on account of the resolution, to rescue Prussians and take them to new homes. Also, partly as a result of our policy, there will be no war in Scandinavia.

And we would have Russia halt their murder, but you seem content to let it lie. You say you have denounced them, but in reality? You condone them.

You repeat a point that we have already discussed in detail.

We don't know who they're supposed to be raping, murdering and pillaging now, or why, even from their perverted point of view, there is anyone else they could desire to rape, murder, or pillage, but we are sure that most such behaviour that they could contemplate is not covered by our defensive alliance.

As far as we're concerned, the Confederation is as guilty for Russia's crimes as Russia herself. We demand you shatter your defensive alliance with the Russians. Maybe then we will see that the Confederation has a heart.

We would no sooner be complicit in whatever bloody war you happen to be planning, and we will not cancel our defensive alliance with the Russians unless to do so appears to us to be in the common interest of the world's nations - which it does not.

The Confederation clearly wishes that Spain had not terminated the Pact at all, and finds the notion that it could ever have obliged Spain to declare war in favour of Russia as quite out of line with the terms of the Pact, and therefore believes that Spain's logic is heavily flawed. The fact remains that you cancelled the alliance despite the fact that we are perfectly happy to maintain it. It is you and the Germans who are rejecting us, not the other way round. We would be perfectly happy to defend the Germans against the Russians as soon as the Russians against the Germans, but, no, the Germans will not have it, and so our hands are tied.

So be it, then. You stand by Russia and her murderous ways. You can try all manner of good-looking trick to appear to be even-handed and interested in peace, but the Russians have murdered four-hundred thousand Prussians and you do not care in the slightest. You may have tried to save what you could, but as yet that does not excuse Russia to do what it can with who remained. You have issued a meaningless denunciation and claimed it meant something, yet still you ally with murderers. You claim that you are not allied with Russia so much as you are interested in preserving peace. The fact that this peace is meaningless must mean nothing to you.

We have no plans for a war against Russia, but we are not foolish enough to believe that a defensive pact consists of only that. You are allied with them beyond the meager combination of your means.

You will see by the contrast precisely how meaningless the peace is when the day comes that you send millions of your children to die in foreign fields, and when Prussia is (again) littered with corpses of noble and blameless European youths. Do you care about them? We are not foolish enough to believe that you would not positively revel in bringing Europe once again into conflict if once we stood aside, nor are we foolish enough to believe in your presciption of blood for blood and an eye for an eye until Europe lies, skeletal and blind, on the ground before you.

We call on the nations of the world not to be so foolish as to be deceived by your fallacies and your machiavellian bloodlust. We will never pursue a policy that will lead inexorably to the deaths of millions of Germans and other nationals alike, even be it "just" or even be it "internationally approved", and we will certainly not sacrifice the interests of all Europe for the sake of your rhetorical trickery and demonic urge to see all Europe pallid and helpless at your feet.
