Capto Iugulum

Qualitative assessments of geometry and aesthetics are by their very nature not objective. I think that - even if I grant that the colour scheme is horrible - there are other problems, which I have already listed, with the map, that are of greater inherence to the map.

Art is relative but that does not mean the principles of good or effective composition don't apply. Take your relativist balderdash elsewhere.

e: Especially when the present map is uglier than sin with atrocious-looking ahistorical borders in every upwards-facing quality of its aspect.

Option 1

I don't know if I'll ever be able to do a background. My best bet is later today, and that's questionable. If I don't get one done, I'll just take my lumps and play on.

@GamezRule: There's no inherent punishment if you fail to do a background. I'll fill in what blanks I can regardless. This is just a chance for you to do what you'd like to personalize your nation.

On a side note, in case it does matter for your choices: I am planning on allowing for the possibility that areas that would not be displayed on the new map could come up for dispute at some point in the future. However, I don't forsee this being an immediate issue, but it is something that could happen eventually, assuming you don't all nuke yourselves to death first.

Portions of Antarctica are claimed by Argentina, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

I don't mind the color scheme, but it could be a little brighter. I do mind the apparently wonky rivers and lack of the poles. Iggy has future oil reserves up there, it shouldn't be omitted. :p

So a fixed up number 1 or an edited recolored option 2.

I won't be able to do a background either. I tried several times, and none of them were good.

In case one thing isn't clear: I've no intent on personally creating a new map from scratch or doing more than surface "repair" to one of the two existing maps. I'm always open to someone else redoing a map of any kind, and indeed welcome it. At this point though, I am well beyond the point of having the drive to do a map, especially when I have already spent FAR more time on this than I initially planned.

The althist of this NES began many centuries before the start of it.

Unless you go back before the Roman Empire and condition the PoD such that it never existed, the borders in Europe are more wrong than right.

Option 1.

Option 1.

The new map is gigantic, so you can't compare borders nearly as well, its weirdly flat looking, and has a complete lack of actual borders so I have no idea how you are meant to show invasions.

Option 2. The old map is and has been painful to look at.

I've highlighted the changed borders. :)

Here's a version just using nation colours, with the highlighted areas set to their normal country tone.

I haven't fixed the rivers yet- right now the big problems are the OTL Saint Lawrence, Fraser and Columbia (ITTL Birgittasfloden, Blomalven and Colombiafloden).
