Monarch's Title: King
Monarchy's Dynasty Name: Ferdinand
Extent of Monarch's Power: Control of the military, money, veto powers and power to make any political party illegal.

Other Dynastical Information: First ruling family of the new United Italy. Unified Italy by opening the national press in Naples and sparked a war between Naples and a majority of what is now Italy as well as Sardinia. Gained, and maintains, popularity among the population in Italy and strives to unite all Italians under Italy one day.

National Background: Italy was united under King Ferdinand II in the year 1909 after a bloody Italian war was fought between Naples, the Papal States, the (formerly known) Italian Republic along with the Austrians. The war was started due to the Pope trying to make Naples shut down the newly reopened Italian National Press allowing any Italian to publish anything they wished freely with free speech. When Naples refused Austria backed up the Pope and tried to force Naples to shut it down, again they refused even when Sardinia and other Italian states joined on the side of the Pope. Naples stared threats directly in the face and refused to back down, even when their one ally had abandoned them within Italy, and stood strong. They endured assaults from the Austrians and the Papal States as well as a naval assault that was utterly pushed back from the Sardinia's, thanks to the Sicilians who had recently joined Naples after breaking away from Spain. The war erupted into a three front war when the Italian Republic joined in claiming they were the rightful leaders of a united Italy which came after Sardinia and Naples had already made a cease fire. The emergence of the Republic drew the attention of the Pope and Austria away from Naples who utilized this great opportunity and eventually made the push resulting into an elected Naples ruling and creating The Kingdom of Italy. Soon thereafter Italy joined into an alliance with, then, Austria, Brandenburg, Spain and Japan which quickly changed into a united Austria and Brandenburg forming Germany. Italy has made a stance against the threat that is known as Proletarianism and sent troops to help stop the spread in Hungary which lasted a couple years. The Hungarian Civil War ended with the royal family retaking control and pushing the Proletarians out, this brought Italy and Hungary closer together and eventually led to Italy adopting the Hungary Army Doctrine. Italy did what they could to support their allies in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, and acquired Libya with a deal between Italy and Monarchist Spain which the Republicans recognized and respected after they won their war.

On the Moral Degeneration of Our Times

-

As it is written, our Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, and there is no other way to salvation save through him. The Church as the mystical body of Christ is the vehicle by which souls travel on the way of sanctification and towards salvation, yet in recent decades this truth has increasingly been challenged even amongst some of the faithful by the insidious influence of ideologies that are diametrically opposed to the teachings of Christ.

This we see in the continuing influence of proletarianism and liberalism, that at their core are fundamentally relativistic and godless ideologies, that place Man at the centre of life and make humanity the arbiter of what is right and wrong. We have already spoken on the degenerate nature of these ideologies previously, and our arguments against them are well known, but we reiterate now their opposition to the christian faith due to their intrinsic causal connection to a particular evil, the loss of a sense of sin and the development of degenerate morality in our times.

These ideologies produce a loss of morality, because the consequence of liberalism and proletarianism is that each man thinks himself the determiner of good. In lacking reference to Truth, which is Christ himself, and God, the only standard on what is virtuous becomes popular opinion. This relativism is dangerous, as when everything is permitted so long as its "good for me" of "it makes me feel nice", society itself is harmed by an increasing egotism and materialism that undermines the principle of the common good. This leads to the development of a degenerate culture, that seeks only to assuage the desire for pleasure and temporal enjoyment, manifesting in all manner of perversions, but being at its core empty and without substance leaving those who are ensnared in its perversion spiritually hungry and unfulfilled. Furthermore when man thinks anything is permitted so long as its "good for him" they harm themselves temporally and spiritually , as in forsaking Christ and his teachings the result is enslavement to sin and to Satan, entrapment in lusts and in the insidious grasp of "pleasure". Men in enslaving themselves to pleasure lose part of what makes them human, forgoing the use of intellect and becoming more like the animals, who are subject only to instinct, losing real freedom, which can be found only in Truth and at the same time putting their eternal souls at risk of damnation.

However as it is written, the gates of hell will not prevail against Christs own Church, established on the rock of Peter and granted the divine guarantee until the end of time. Just as in every age new evils arise, so too in every age and in this age new saints and servants of the Lord arise to wage spiritual battle against the instruments and servants of the enemy. In this age, making use of the new media of radio, we see many of the faithful taking a stand in the service of the Lord and working dilligently for the salvation of souls, making every effort to show the lost sheep of God the true path, which is the Church which infallibly teaches the true faith by which all of society must rightly be oriented lest it inexorably veer to its own destruction.

We give our encouragement to these humble workers in Gods vineyard, and urge them to provide a challenge to the underlying errors that produce the societal degeneration which has become so predominant in our age, and urge them to unceasingly providethe moral teachings of the Church to those who are spiritually thirsty for truth. The goal of those who would become the saints of this age should not be to attack specific symptoms of societies ills, but rather to convert sinners to the true path of the Church and insodoing fight against the underlying errors that manifest so clearly in our age in an attempt to fill the spiritual void created by the rise of erroneous secular ideologies. Indeed it is only through conversion, a process that continues even in the faithful throughout this earthly life, and a rigorous defence and advocacy of the faith, which is the Truth, can the errors of our time be truly challenged and found wanting, and the social ills which come from those ideological errors be corrected.

ooc: Pope Paul VI is moderate by early 20th century ecclesiastical standards, he hasn't even called for the illegalisation of protestantism in Catholic lands. Secular leitmotifs on the political scale don't really apply in the religious sphere, especially in the Catholic Church where what the Church infallibly teaches is not up for debate.

OOC: to be honest my King basically does it all with a little bit of input from a Prime Minister

I will say that I interpret Guangxi as my puppet, so "Emperor" would not be appropriate.

That is my interpretation as well, though I do have basically full control of domestic policy.

I'm starting to think you know very little about politics. The idea of Order being the antithesis to Freedom is one of the worst debates in the history of politics. Taking the name "Party of Order" and implying it means anti-free or anti-liberal or conservatives is just ignorance on politics in general. One Party of Order does not equal another, just as one Liberal Party does not equal another.

Occitania

yfo4S.png

National Background
The Languedoc kingdom contended for French unification in the middle of the nineteenth century, building their military to challenge the rising Parisians. They were unfortunate in this endeavour, as the Second Orleans War limited their options. The Second Orleans War of 1854, began with Orleans' liberals who - sponsored by the Kingdoms of Paris-Burgundy - rose in revolt . Languedoc started with clear victories in the field, threatening both Dijon and Paris. The support of Spain and Sardinia was insufficient to handle the piling French states; Orleans underwent occupation, and Toulouse was besieged, but Languedoc continued in spite of the mounting pressure. The Spanish relieved Toulouse, but could not assist reclaiming the territories north.
Without the full recognition of Louis II, a treaty was drafted and came into effect, however the king never dropped his claims to France. After his death in 1862, with Spanish pressure, King Charles declared the kingdom of Occitania. He reigned until 1892, and his son Louis III began a daring next century.
Entering into alliance with Britain, Occitania joined the Great War against Spain and Franco-Burgundy, in the name of acquiring Aquitaine. The war was unsuccessful for Occitania, and Britain distanced itself from continental affairs, leaving Occitania to search for new allies. The search concluded with Franco-Burgundy, and the creation of the Rhine-Rhone Pact. Shortly after the alliance’s inception, the Spanish Civil War broke out, and to the aid of the Republican cause, the Rhine-Rhone Pact send soldiers, which became a major military success. The terms of the Republican victory guaranteed the transfer of Aquitaine to Occitania, and as the political landscape changes, the venerable kingdom considers the future decades.

"Ever-mounting pile of evidence"? What evidence? How many times must we state that we have no quarrel with the principles of colonialism in Africa? The Workers' Commonwealth has neither the time nor the inclination to address these fallacious charges again and again. We are more than willing to produce documents regarding our sale of arms and munitions to the Kongo Society Regime with the intention that they be used to maintain order in the colonies. These are the rifles which were discovered in the hands of Egyptian rebels, placed there presumably by the Kongo Society regime, for we never had any dealings with the Egyptian people.

We shall say for the last time, we hope, that we have not sought and shall never seek any means by which to usurp the illegal Kongo Society junta (as distasteful as it may be) that could even potentially result in native uprisings. We hope that these claims can be dismissed, and will certainly not entertain them any further.

A good response that covers Africa, we encourage you to bring these documents to light. However, does the Worker's Commonwealth not deny instigating violence in Japanese China and beyond (shipping weapons to the proletarists in America)?

Sure, the concept of order isn't necessarily opposed to political liberalism. But, the whole point of being a liberal is that freedom is your most important value, the one you prioritize above all others.

Names matter, and if you are naming your party the "Party of Order," that's pretty up there in terms of anti-Enlightenment rhetoric. You are specifically saying that when freedom and order conflict, order (either rules-based or divine) should prevail; at that point, you've already thrown out the Enlightenment and its belief that all people are endowed with sufficient reason to distinguish good from evil.

And *that* puts you well out of the political left.

All of this under the assumption that political party names have anything to do with actual ideology over time. The original Party of Order in Brazil in this NES was indeed conservative, but shifted to liberalism over time, and was copied throughout the world. But beyond this NES you have to look at actual political parties and how they shifted, take, for instance, British politics in the mid-19th century, where people who valued "order" were very much giving out freedoms to maintain their positions of power. You are dealing in absolutes that do not exist in modern politics. It isn't 1750, we're not under some either/or political circumstance. There is liberalism and conservatism, and everything between and outlying, but that does not mean that to have liberal policy you must be called liberal, or vice versa. I'd argue that after a half century of liberal politics the Party of Order means maintaining a tradition of liberalism, but hey, the world is black and white, ain't it?

I am very glad to see the map getting a facelift, I'd do it myself, but I'm lazy enough just putting off doing Capto Igulum's updates. I can't overextend myself to putting off doing the map as well. Kurdistan has bothered me for a while, and I'm quite disappointed they haven't been destroyed yet. It and Serbia both look at least somewhat better with crezth's map though.
Yep, still around :p

Anyways, here's the background thing.
Kurdistan

kurdistan_flag.gif

National Background
Kurdistan was a nation baptized by fire. In 1902, the majority of Cizre Bohtan was made up of Kurdish people, and many parts of the military were Kurdish. Aggravated by unfair treatment, the Kurds rose up and seized power, ousting Sultan Badr Beg II and replacing him with King Mahmud I. Despite some dissent over a monarchy, the people decided that it was best, in the name of Allah. In 1904, King Mahmud I allied himself with Arabia, just in time to join the Great War in defense of its ally, Arabia, and joining the side of the Krakow Pact. In 1905, Kurdistan began its offensive with Arabia against Turkey, succeeding the next year in assimilating the Turkish nation. This success spurred on Kurdistan to start to fight against Persia. Despite the signing of the Treaty of Tuileries, Kurdistan annexed Turkey, and continued the war against Persia.
In 1908, Kurdistan's war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Madrid, and King Mahmud signed an alliance with Arabia called the Baghdad Pact. Meanwhile, Persia and Chaldea (the latter having found tension with Kurdistan due to a new rebel group that Chaldea was assisting, the Young Turks) founded a defensive pact, urging on more tensions. The tensions broke with Chaldea invading Kurdistan, and a new war erupting in the Middle East. Tired of war (and under threat from Russia), the involved parties signed the Treaty of Batman (a Turkish town), exchanging a western chunk of Kurdistan for some extra money.
After some years of peace, the Young Turks launched a Turkish-backed rebellion, starting yet another war. Kurdistan, which had been focusing on its navy and industry, had its massive investments annihilated by the Turkish invasion, and was dealt a weakening blow. Despite the fact that it was at one time a major power and still has major allies, none have been willing to directly assist. Quite the opposite; Rome has instead deployed troops to defend the pre-war borders. Peace talks have started to commence, and the fate of Kurdistan is still unknown.
