Cats and Kittens

We had a horrendous storm last night. The sea end of my bedroom flooded.

Similarly, in the little house, the rain pushed its way under the seaside door, flooding the second floor hallway and waking the kittens, They were thrilled. They could run and sliiiiiiiiiide on the wet tile. :run::yeah::D

High winds snapped a tree in backyard.

Seems weird not letting your cat out to me. Dexter loves the outdoors, gets to mooch on new humans.

Not judging and I've never really had to live in an apartment long term.

Very different culture I suppose.
It's a safety and health issue. I am very careful who I allow to be near Maddy, because of the black-cat stigma (there are a lot of superstitious people who think they're evil and therefore fair game for abuse). I've made it clear to the management here that I will not allow maintenance in here when I'm not here (except in genuine emergencies), because Maddy tends to be afraid of strangers (especially noisy strangers), and she has a habit of trying to escape into the hallway. When the carpet guy was here the day after all the water came down from the floor above, it took both the building manager and me to wrestle Maddy into her carrier. She was terrified and panicking to the point that I couldn't hold onto her. So we got her into her carrier, I held it on my lap, and even then I could see she was shivering.

The building I lived in before this one had a crazy pet clause in the lease that said if any other tenant said they were "scared" of anyone's cat, the cat would either have to be gotten rid of immediately or the owner (and cat) would be evicted. Needless to say, I did not let anyone see Maddy. Chloe wasn't a problem - she wasn't black. But the number of people who hate black cats is just ridiculous.

I see a couple of them figured out what boxes are for.

Heh millions of years of divergent evolution.

"I can haz box?"
Domestic cat: I can has box? I can? Fank yu bery much. *settles down to nap*

Wild cat: WTH IS THAT THING? KILL IT NOW! *pounce, attack, CHOMP!*

Neighbours kid came over today to sell me some raffle tickets. I suspect it's an excuse to visit Dexter. Already bought 4.

Caught me making pancakes so got her to ring mum and send her brother over. Pancakes for kids.

Took them home and of course Dexter follows. Their dad won't allow him in their house, mum doed so Dexter was allowed in the house and mooched over the kids, mum and made himself at home.

Mooch mooch mooch.

I like them. Partial to.

Black and White
Calico
Silver tabby
Tabby with White
Black

Mark I moggy. Pure breeds meh.
I have never had a basic tabby. My dad's cat, Sammy, was a tabby. My first cat was Siamese, and while there was tabby in a couple of Maggie's kittens, we didn't keep those so they don't really count as my cats other than the 8 weeks they lived here. So... I've had one Siamese, two Tortoiseshell/Calico, three Tuxedos, and a basic black cat (respectively that would be Cassandra, Maggie, Chloe, Lightning, Tomtat, Gussy, and Maddy). Maggie had 5 kittens, and Lightning had 3; we kept one kitten of each litter (Lightning was the one we kept of Maggie's and Tomtat was the one we kept of Lightning's). These are not in the same order that I actually had the cats; that would be Cassandra, Maggie, Lightning, Tomtat, Gussy, Chloe, Maddy.

While we had this assortment of cats over a 43-year-period, we also had three dogs: Snoopy (brown and white beagle), Tuffy (white poodle), and Casper (white terrypoo - cross between Jack Russel Terrier and poodle). All the dogs got along well with our cats, as they considered the cats to be part of the family. The only one of the pets my dad never knew was Maddy, as I got her a few days after he was taken to the hospital and a succession of nursing homes.

Boots woke up sick. :health: Luckily, the vet was in town today instead of Thursday. It was a high fever. :yuck: A trio of injections broke it. :)

Poseidon was missing his brother & crying. By the time Boots got home, Poseidon was back in the little house. So Boots walked around crying for him.

Sadly, the vet says we must keep the two kittens apart.

Your orchard garden sounds like a great place for them. For many decades all of of our 30+ cats have been indoor/outdoor. Almost all made it to 10-12 years and many to 15+. At the moment we have 2 over 10 and 1 at ~6.
My wife corrected me.

Caboose is 5
Cholla is 10
Reveille is 15

Our calico Betty White(tail) had a litter. The only female is another tricolor, but I hesitate to call her a calico, because the colors are striped tabby-fashion, rather than patched. Is this still called a calico, is it a tortoiseshell, or is there some other term? Her brothers are black with white mittens.

I'm calling her Racer because of the front to back striping.

You can get tabby calicos/torties.

I would adopt any colour really. Wanted silver tabby came home with tabby with White.

Went to adopt another one not a tabby with White. Found a beautiful friendly silver tabby and came home with another tabby with White. She had been there a while and the silver tabby got adopted by the following week.

Striping is more a tortoiseshell marking. There could be both in the cat's ancestry, and keep in mind that not all the kittens in a litter necessarily have the same father.

White mittens/socks on black cats is a characteristic of tuxedo cats.

So, tortoiseshell and tuxedo brothers. I can believe there are two fathers. One is probably the neighborhood king, a big black tom known as Wally. The other likely candidate is a neighbor's yellow tabby.

(Note : my room is not normally such a mess, I let a friend crash there while I was away and he's a bit of a slob to put it midly)

You don't need to cover for your roommate's cat, you know. :mischief:
