CCM2 Epic Mod

Oooh, CCM2.45 !! Great ! :goodjob:
I have to test it !

lethaltoto, one more time thank you very much for your continuing interest in CCM and your input. :)

Will it be a problem if I replace my current 2.4 files with 2.45 and continue my current 2.4 game?
Ok, I 'll Don't benefit the new improvements for now (not a problem for me), but do I risk game crashes or other problems?

You will have to deal with the crashes that can occur in CCM 2.4 as the wrong links for the Dreadnoughts WW II were fixed with the biq 2.45 and (mostly) not with the new mainfiles.

And also it seems that we have to download the full game in new version? Wasn't it possible to also prepare a smaller patch with only new/modified files in, to patch already running 2.4?

I didn´t have the free time for doing both. I´m still working on CCM 2.5 that also includes the files for RARR and the CCM2 world scenario, but at present I´m also renovating my home.

Beside of this, I have an idea for the next version :)
Perhaps we could imagine that most of units until industrial age WONT be able to upgrade.
I mean mainly for tanks, planes and battleships. It would be more realistic.
We could keep upgrade ability for infantry-kind units (we can Imaging that giving foot soldiers new discovered improved gear and guns is realistic).
But what about vehicles? "Hey guys, we have discovered a new amazing way to make planes fly much faster! Let's dismount all those old propellers on our planes and put some cool reactors instead". No way. You still have your old planes as they are, and you start building some new better from the scratch (eventualy keeping the ability to disassemble previous ones to take some parts or to collect some iron that will be re-used, that fit perfectly with game mechanics).

This was partly done with some really big units like WW2 battleships and WW2 Dreadnoughts, but mostly the philosophy for upgrading units in CCM2 is different: You don´t upgrade a plane by fixing jet propulsion under the wings of a biplane instead of a propeller :D, but by using the crew of the old planes for the new aircraft (as it frequently happened in reality). The same by upgrading to different kinds of weapons, p.e. from mounted units to vehicles and tanks ( and please no remarks about the crew of a 1.000 year old trireme, that upgrades to a caravel :D).

In new mainfolder there are no files of some units which were in earlier versions and which a game wants to see, but doesn't find. For example, Enkidu Warrior, Chasquis Scout, Enslaved Worker, Three Man Chariot.

Hi Node60, you did run in the most common error of wrong installing CCM2. You must unzip the new mainfiles into the still existing C3C folders (after having done a back up copy). This is a kind of copy potection to assure, that the player still has the original C3C files. When you have installed CCM2 properly, you will have all the 'missing original C3C units' (with the exception of the ugly original cruiser, that is overwritten by a better looking unit).

Oh, precisely, same standard graphics. Apologies, I was this time inattentive.

Hi Civinator

I think I have found an error in CCM 2.45.
In Art\Units\PHL-03 the PHL-03.ini file contains FORTIFY=Fortify.flc which crashes with File not found.
Changing to FORTIFY=Fort.flc seemed to fix it OK.

Best wishes, BillK

BillK, thank you very much for reporting that error. :) Your fix is also correct. The error will be fixed that way in the next version of CCM 2.

Hi,

I can't seem to be able to find the conquests.biq file. Can you guys redirect me to the link for it? I've downloaded the CCM2.rar, but that's all I can find.

Hi Arcanior, thank you very much for your interest in CCM2. :)

The CCM 2.45 biq and the modified Conquests biq are attached as separate zip-files at the bottom of the post that also contains the download link of the mainfiles. To separate the download of the biqs from the download of the mainfiles at the same post at civforum.de should assure, that CCM2 biqs can be updated more frequently without replacing the upload of the mainfiles.

Spoiler :

OK, I got some more questions to you for the upcoming 2.5 (and beyond). My concern is as before over the aircrafts in this game.
I see that you now in this newer version don't have the Stealth version as the last upgrades. The B2, F117 comes before the F22 and especially the F117 should come earlier in the game.
But still have you forgotten the F35 ?. You have an Advanced Stealth fighter with the F22 in that last science upgrade, but the F35 should be in that as the better ground-attack fighter and also for carriers. An upgrade for most Western nations. Special as the last aircraft-carrier ground-attacker for those nations. US still have their Super-Hornet but Britain should have F35 as their last for killing off ground units.
Then even the Eurofighter is fixed on replacing the Tornado also as ground-attacker so perhaps at least same bombing effect for this Typhoon. Still not an Eurofighter on carriers. UK had their F4s and Buccaneers and then types of Harriers, while perhaps the Tornado could have been made carrierbase. I see that you use SEPECAT Jaguar as the "general" attack aircraft also for carriers. That's OK, so Bucs - Jaguar - Tornado - Typhoon. Think RL the FAA had the Bucs replaced by the Harrier and Tornado for the RAF. That would make Tornado - Typhoon good but the lineage from Bucs on FAA would eventually end up with the F35 in modern times. Question is just what would FAA have done if the 60's carrier, CVA-01 ever made it to sea. What complements would it have used. Perhaps Tornados before the switch to F35.
I know it's tricky to get a working lineage to hold in game and eventuellay over a very short gameperiod. Then too the little use of carrierbased aircraft by the AI makes it vital to have these capable in other sort of usage. Not looked into if any upgrades between these in the lineage but a line of Bucs-Jaguar-Tornado- Typhoon and the Harrier squeezed in somewhere around the Jaguar I believe. But when the Tornado arrives perhaps no jet would be upgrading to it and forthwith the Typhoon and F35 can't be upgraded to. The Harrier might be upgradable to the F35 for improved VTOL. So at the end you got Tornados, Typhoon and F35 for Britain. F35 taking care off the carrierduties and the only pure stealthfighter, also for carriers, in the group. Now I'm certain you will put me in shame by explaining how stupid this might be to make it work, but still in the short I would be happy to see the F35 in it's glory for what it is, a superb new VTOL fighter/GA for many Western countries and the only stealth to land on carriers. You got HMS Queen Liz in the game so F35 is a must. She was built to carry this aircraft.
Have in mind I haven't reach this final part playing the game but just had a look where it might end in compare to the older versions. I might have gotten it wrong after all, so sorry if so.

Thanks for still working on this masterpiece of Mod.

clamel, thank you very much for your kind words about CCM2 and for your highly appreciated input about the later aircraft in CCM 2 era 4. :)

The upgrading chains of these planes can indeed be improved. One factor is, that I´m still reflecting about giving VTOL aircraft like the Harrier, Matador and the F-35 a different setting, that would need a lot of time in testing, if it is working. In the meantime those upgrading chains should stay. The F-35 can be added to the last tech in the era 4 techtree, but this will not have any important impact in gameplay, as most CCM 2 games are long finished when these regions of the techtree in era 4 are reached. Even a succession game with CCM1, where the participants of that game tried to land on the Moon, ended much earlier, as by mistake they did reach a victory by cummulating victory points. :D

The division of planes in mid and late era 4 are highly affected by having better planes with the access to oil and mostly lesser effective jet aircraft even without access to oil, but I agree, that even a differentiation between aircraft with better airfighting abilities and aircraft with better ground attack can be integrated better in these categories. I also agree, that the F-117 can appear more early in the game. I will set that plane to the tech "Advanced Avionics" in the next version of CCM2. Thank you very much for this suggestion. :)

As most games are ending long before reaching techs allowing the use of those aircraft and -as you hint to it yourself - the AI is very bad in using carrier aircraft, those aspects don´t have the highest priority in the further development of CCM2. The next version of CCM2 will have a reworked setting of the "military great leader/army" concept.

Node60, I don´t have CCM 2.45 any longer on my pc, to avoid a mix-up with the next versions of CCM2, RARR and a scenario. At least in my current working version for the next update of CCM2, these files are included, but at present it is open, if they will be really needed in that scenario. But nevertheless thank you very much for that report. :)

I still Don't have made the upgrade for 2.45, but in my current 2.4 version I can confirm that Orange-SM.pcx is NOT present
BUT there is a OrangeS-SM.pcx present
So there is certainly a mismatch somewhere due to this S

lethaltoto, thank you very much for clarifying this. :)

The work for the next version of CCM2 makes some progress.

Here I show some images of Wotan49´s great work in improving the CCM2 artillery units by adding some foot infantry units (mostly created by Sandris) to Imperators wonderful artillery units. The addition of foot units for the defense gives those artillery units the justification for better defense values, so in the next version of CCM2 it will not be so easy to kill single moving AI artillery units. As it is not possible to use the 'escort-flag' for landunits, the escort by defenders is now directly integrated into these units.

Additionally at present it is tested, if these units will also be used by the AI when set to be a substitution for a 'small army'.

Another big thank you very much to Takeo, who fixed the animation speed of many, many units and to Delta_Strife, who made some nice units that were needed for CCM2 (p.e.the American armored cruiser).

:thanx:

Edit: Adjusted the images

Two days ago Delta_Strife kindly sent me some naval units, that are not published yet, but can - and of course will - be used in the next version of CCM2 :). Here are some nice new units for the navy of Austria-Hungary:

Some placeholder ships in CCM2 now can be replaced by the original units. :)

Yes :yup:, I think Civ 3 would have been dead since a long time without the wonderful work of all the great unit makers.

Wotan49 is busy creating new artillery multi-units for CCM2. Now he is starting updating the cannon-units.

Generic Cannon:

US Cannon

These units cannot be received by normal production. The new artillery multi-units in CCM2 are only available by autoproduction (or upgrading an autoproduced multi-unit) or by using a leader to receive an upgradable "kind of a light army unit".
