Day 2 – Part 1

Wake-Up, Breakfast
Strongnovitch was not the first to awaken, but was certainly the most enthusiastic about it. Even if he had a raging hangover from the previous day. He demonstrated his enthusiasm by awaking everyone up. Unfortunately for everybody else in the room, the method of awakening people involved smashing an empty vodka bottle from the previous night's bender against the wall.
Spoiler :
Nicholas Carson Strongnovitch: 38 vs PER 65 → Just Success
Fortunately, the glass smashed on the wall without causing harm to anyone, although a few had to brush off the crystals to avoid being injured.

"Rise and shine, comrades!" he said, cheerfully, and a bit drunk. "It is time for us to hunt down these Capatalist Acbee Pigs and protect the workers of the multiverse!"

Neil and Severus jumped out of their beds in the belief that they were being attacked, only to realize soon that it had just been their captain trying to be funny. Slowly, everyone but Ky Miller – who remained enclosed in the bathroom – rose up from their beds and went towards the storage room, intent on getting some food out of its boxes to eat breakfast. Lacking tables and such, they decided to have it all in the meeting room.

Training
Absent were Jade, Jack and the Hermit, who had chosen to do other things with their time instead of eating something. Jade had decided to go for her equipment and try to train her use of the rifle, but Mike appeared, just like it had done the previous day with Marcus, warning her off using weapons within the ship, at least until they had a weapon range. The Hermit went to the storage room and took some beer 'for medicinal uses', and then decided to train in using his sword.
Spoiler :
The Hermit: 7 vs AGI 50 → Big Success
Finding the inner peace within himself, he initiated several movements, destined at incapacitating an enemy non-lethally, completing them with easiness.
Spoiler :
Jack: 15 vs STR 60 → Success, 31 vs INT 70 +5 (Magic Lvl 1) -10 (two difficult tasks at the same time) → Success
As for Jack, he tried to find some tools and a fire axe, unsuccessfully due to the lack of them anywhere in the ship, but later he managed to take a box of beer bottles to the meeting room and use a spell to make it impossible to be opened by physical means, right in front of everybody else, who complained about the potential loss of so much alcohol

After breakfast, several others decided to take some time to train before the briefing took place.
Spoiler :
Christos Palaiologos: 46 vs 70+5 (Kung Fu Lvl 1) → Just Success
Honda Takashi: 7 vs AGI 75+5 (Blademaster Lvl 1) → Big Success
Neil Morriss: 23 vs PER 75+5 (Firearms Lvl 1) → Success Target Acquisition
Severus Hark: 21 vs AGI 50 → Success
Alexander Withington: 7 vs 75+5 (Magic Lvl 1) → Big Success Turn 2l Vodka into Whisky
Marcus Blackstone: 84 vs 65+5 (Extreme Training Lvl 1) → Just Failure Train Extreme Training
Christos continued with his Kung Fu training, while Takashi and Severus practiced using their swords against each other. Neil chose to test some target acquisition in the storage room, pulling all ammo out of his rifle before pointing at several places in the storage room, trying to keep up with several movements. Marcus also tried to continue with his physical training, but when he tried to run upstairs he tripped on the stairs and twisted his ankle: not a serious injury, but just enough to prevent him from continuing with his training. Meanwhile, Alexander, in an attempt to get some of his favorite drink, used his magic on Strongnovitch and turned a couple of vodka bottles into whisky.

The Briefing
Before Strongnovitch could actually make honor to his surname's root and use some strength on Alexander, I chose to enter the meeting room.

“Good morning,” I said. “Is everyone here?”

“No, there are some people in the storage room, training,” Alexander said, “and the silent guy is still closed up in the bathroom.”

I tried not to roll my eyes at that. I'd have to have some words with Miller soon. I then activated the ship's speaker system.

“Attention, members of the Multiverse Exploration Corps. Your presence is required in the meeting room. The briefing is about to begin.”

Soon, everyone but Miller was in the meeting room. I then activated the screen, showing them a map of the world.

“We are currently existing in the timeline designated TL-630254. The CFC.com is orbiting Earth at a height of 50,000 kilometers, so there is little chance of being seen. The local year is 1887, and the greatest powers in the world are, right now, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the American Empire, the Republic of France and the German Empire. However, our mission concerns neither of them, but, rather, something happening at the other side of the world.”

The map, which until now showed the entire world, now zoomed to the Pacific, showing a region that contained two archipelagos, the Philippines and Japan.

“The Philippines are currently part of the Kingdom of Spain, and there is a great undercurrent of distrust against their government, although the latter is trying to make efforts The mission will take place here. Our contacts have detected Acebee presence in both Japan and the Philippines, more in the former than in the latter. We believe that they plan to use Japan as a base to force an invasion of the Philippines, which could destabilize the Kingdom of Spain and, according to our best cliodynamicists, turn Japan into a superpower that might plunge the world into a war unlike anything that any of you might have seen. Except for Mr Hark, of course,” I added, remembering the hellish universe the Commissar lived in.

“How are they going to do that? Because I'd say that it would require lots of influence, which, according to what you've told us, is impossible for them to do.”

“Indeed. Unfortunately, they can do things through their pawns. We believe that one of them has been given the knowledge to build an apparatus that can influence people's minds, and he has been using it on the Japanese government to get them to ready an attack on the Philippines. He might also be able to use a bigger apparatus of the same kind on people in Japan, but we have yet to find out whether the pawn has been able to build it. In either case, the bracelets you wear protect you from the influence of such apparatus, so you should not fear about it. The bracelets also allow you to understand any languages you encounter, as well as translate what you are saying to the language of the person you are speaking with, but I would advise you to not test it too much, it might translate things the wrong way.”

An alarm blared in the ship.

“Man, you took too much time, they are already starting the invasion,” Mike said.

“Aw, crap,” I replied. “I forgot about the San Dimas Principle! Well, not enough time to do a thorough explanation, so... you should try to land in this point in Luzon, it's about a kilometer away from where the invasion will be centered in, if my calculations are correct then their headquarters will be deployed near there, and whomever the Acebees have sent as pawns will be accompanying them. Be careful with him, he will have great support from the Japanese soldiers. I suggest that you attempt to infiltrate it, Takashi will invaluable for this. Don't worry about the shuttle being seen, the SEP circuits should prevent others from noticing it. Just don't go all guns blazing, you'll be deader than disco. Now, go, go! I'll tell you more while you are on your way!”

Noticing the urgence in my voice, everyone rushed out of the meeting room and ran downstairs, aided by Mike's hologram's pointing out the way, before piling into the shuttle, the Captain and Severus being the last because the latter had to help the former through the door, as he was drunk on vodka once more. Once everybody was well tied to their seats, Jade pushed a button and waited until the gates were completely opened, to then start moving the shuttle towards outer space, and from there to Earth.

The Coward
As soon as he heard the shuttle departing, Ky opened his hideaway's door, carefully looking around, and slightly ashamed at himself. He should not be doing this. The last three years of his life had been spent fighting the Bugs that had invaded his Earth, trying to avenge the death of his family, and yet, after death, he was here, throwing his second chance to the wind because of his unreasonable fears. He could have gone down there with the others, but instead he had chosen to hide away in the bathroom. And now, he was bound for the storage room in order to steal some food to quiet his rumbling stomach. Was this what he was reduced to doing?

Finding the storage room was easy, as was taking some food out of it, enough to get by for one or two more days. The same could not be said of the armory: just like the previous day, it was impossible to open the door, no matter how much he pushed and pulled. Perhaps it was required that Hark opened the door? At least, that was what happened the previous day, the door had not opened until Hark approached it.

“Hello,” I said. I could see how I made him jump, and he then pointed his pistol at me. Well, he seemed quite scare of all that was happening around here, it certainly was not something one could easily adapt – the others were more the exception than the rule. Hopefully, Miller would soon change and be an asset instead of hiding away.

“What... what... what...”

“Please, point that away from me. In fact, please put the safety on that gun.”

Slowly, Miller turned the gun away from me, thankfully a bit calmer, but still nervous.

“What the hell...”

“Look, Miller, I am wondering one thing. What has happened that has made you this skittish?” I asked him. “Thing is, if you continue to behave this way, I can't keep you here in the ship. I am willing to get you to safety after this mission ends, but if you want to stay with us, then you have to help with the missions. You can't keep hiding away for whatever reason you have, much less take things without even asking.

“Anyway, the choice is yours. Either you actually join as a full-right member of the Multiverse Exploratory Corps, or you leave the ship at the next stop. Everybody else is now risking their lives going down there, and you stayed here. I doubt the others will be happy about that.”

I decided to leave then, as I went to the meeting room to continue giving information to the SeeTees in the shuttle. Hopefully, now he would think it over and stop behaving this way. Hopefully.

OOC: Well, there it is! Eleven of the twelve are flying down to the first mission, and the twelth is staying on the ship for some weird reasons (hopefully, the guilt tripping will actually work!). Also, any similarity between the timeline's background and anything else on this forum is an absolute coincidence.

How the hell is a Samurai-like dressed westerner be of much help? If only I were in a Japanese Army uniform... ;)

SEP Fields? Somebody Else's Problem fields?

Man, I love the Hitchhiker's Guide. :p

Orders up shortly, when I work out what to do.

"Well until our leader contacts us with more details anyone have any basic plan of action for how to stop a war with eleven people? I suggest we send the mime (Christos) and Blackstone out to scout ahead of the rest of the group. I'd volunteer myself but you know I don't have a scope or anything like that."

"If we could find the location of the apparatus, we could solve this problem very quickly. One of the pawns is sure to know where it is. The real problem will be... convincing him to give us the information. And getting to a position where we can actually talk to him, of course. So, who knows anything about subterfuge?
"Also, who the hell is disco?"

"You guys just tell me where you want to land, and I'll get you there, alright?"

"I'll gladly go out first. Not as if ther's much difference in the order."

OOC: cant get in orders until...17, 18 hours from now because of RL, so might be a bit late getting them in

"The Acebee agent will likely be in a position where he is unassailable in battle - likely the commander's post. Thus I suggest we land the shuttle directly on top of the commander's tent and, if we don't crush them with that blow, march straight in and find the machine before enemy reinforcements arrive.

Speed is key - we are unable to blend in. We must get in and get out before the Acebees realise that we are here."

"That sounds entirely insane, and it will probably get us all killed. Let's do it."

"But where are they based? I mean, where exactly?

We can't do anything without knowing that. We'll need reconnaissance."

"I need to know more about the abilities of our Comrades before I can form a plan of action. If we had more time I would propose we do in depth reconnasance, but we can't.

For those who use magic, would it be possible to use magic to disguise us as Japanese soldiers? Because that would solve one of our biggest problems."

"My suggestion about you, Takashi, is because you are the one that knows the most of the Japanese culture, and thus are more likely to blend in. If I may offer a suggestion, perhaps the Captain's idea might work. Do not rely on it, however, I've seen magic failing at the worst moments. I'll send you coordinates as soon as I can get them."

OOC: This turn, you have three actions. Jade will, forcefully, have to use one of her actions to pilot the ship and land. My expectations are that you will be able to get through this mission in 3-4 rounds, of course that is if the die throws don't muck it up. Not throwing more suggestions because I want to see what you come up with. I already have an idea of how it could be done, but don't want to share it.

Yeah, of course, just wondering, has Meiji Restoration already happened in this world?
