My suggestion would be that we start the meeting here:

Ah, I think I know where that is. I might have walked past that when I was in HH last year.

@stefan how do we get there from Hauptbahnhof?

So you're in?

*Bump*

More people, come on, join in!

Well here we go, bumping again.

Bad news comrades. I just found out that upon me has befallen the great luck of not being in the possession of my passport in the first couple weeks of January. There even appears to be a reason for this; it will be in use to get a visum for Russia (I'm going there in February). I had not thought of this when signing up for this enterprise. So unless Holland en Germany suddenly decide to start enforcing the Schengen rules I won't be able to come :(. Tut mir leid...

Why would you even need a passport to cross the border?

Yeah, I've never been asked to show mine when I go through Germany. It's as if the border dosn't even exists.

All countries of the EU are in the Schengen treaty, and a lot of friends of mine have told me they visited The Netherlands from Germany without any kind of border formalities.

I had to show my passport when I got into Germany on a train from Switzerland. First had to show it on the train when passed through Austria and secondally when I got off at some station which name I forget (I was going to Memmingen). I didn't have to show it going from Germany into Luxemburg, in fact I didn't have to show it in Lux/Belguim/Netherlands at all.

Maybe that's because Switzerland is not in the EU, Comrade

(I don't know if they have any passport arrengements with the EU).

Yeh thats I thought it probably was, but then again my 2 friends went on to Munich (I was going to see girlfriend who was in Germany as well with her friends family.....good timing! :) ) and were not asked to show any ID.

And Norway is, I believe, even though she is not formally a member of the EU.

So, I take it you're not coming despite all our protests..?

I PMed addiv about ID cards and how to get them and he promised to look into it. So I hope he will show :)

That's true. There was TV commercials about how we don't need passports to travel in Europe anymore.. Unless you want a hotel room that is.
