CFC Memes

You guys don't know what a meme is, do you? Noncon was right: if it's planned or self-aware, it's NOT a meme.

So to clarify, rickrolling is or is not an internet meme under this definition? I would assume it was a deliberate act, rather than an accident. Does that count?

I don't know half of these, I only know the oooooold ones. A newer one was the "Ask me about being an x".

Re:Nylan; Rickrolling/duckrolling/etc is a meme. It's never an accident.

Radioactive Monkeys, just because it's the oldest one I got to see the start of.

If so, then things noncon and Cheezy are claiming aren't memes are indeed "memey" :p

Was it? Because I pulled that out of my ass and saw it once or twice more, but I didn't think it went far. (Which is good, because it was kind of stupid.)

Maybe I remember it being more prevalent than it was, but there were people making references to it and putting variations in their signatures for a while afterwards.

(Can we get 'wrestling action figures' to be a regularly-used meme again? IIRC the original use was as a way for a man to win a woman's heart, or avoid it, or something, and seeing as how the Random Rants thread is infested with faux-broken-hearted teen angst nowadays, we need those action figures more than ever now.)

Also. Catharsis. You sound like :old:. Get with the times, grandpa. ;)

I have a right to be crotchety on any Christmas for which I do not get to be eight years old.

There's also plenty more forum specific memes, and in forum games, game-specific memes. (e.g. In the mafia games, there's the "Swedishguy is always the mafia" meme)

Forum Games used to have loads of memes (or fads), but they died out. Examples include:
  • Swedishguy is the mafia (as you said, that one's still around and still fun)
  • TEH ALIENZ
  • The Forum Games Murderer (precursor to TEH ALIENZ)
  • Tasslehoff and his vacuum cleaners
  • Jono's Immutable Golden Rule (didn't we all love that one, eh choxorn ;))
  • guns, nukes and planes
  • probably more than that... well, there's that one that only Perfection and Stylesrj use that concerns the acquisition of three points by a feline entity, but that doesn't even deserve to be called a fad, quite frankly.

Anyway, I claim ownership rights on 'Sarkastic'. Not a meme as such, but it is a good word to use to describe the people of Sark.

I wish the League of Extraordinary Strawmen caught on for our use of strawman.

edit- wow, haystack won in the polls? forgot that

I doubt the guy who performed the first rickroll actually planned for it to become a meme...

Does anyone know who started that?

And it's not a meme for it's creator. Trust me.
Regardless of who started it, Snerk makes the absolute best ones.

It once said: "Warning: This poster will refer to you as 'that tosser from CFC'." I laughed for like 20 minutes.

Must they plan for it to be "a meme" specifically, or can they just think it's funny and repeat it while finding it amusing and cool when it grows in popularity? I'm sure whoever performed the first rickroll was pleased to see other people rickrolling and probably encouraged it.

Only when combined with a /sheesh or /shrug at the end of a post.

Though it seems that Mobby has largely stopped doing this ever since other people started.

Yeah, they horning in on my meme. :(

But I still do /meh quite a bit.

GDR is the one I remember most to, with Perfy constantly referencing it in every weapons thread ever.

One more.

 I don't wanna be a meme, I wanna be Kan!

Giant Death Robots always comes to mind for me though. It's probably more a personal love though, I even had a giggle about it today when Doctor Who was on and, funnily enough, there was a Giant Death Robot.

Hey, didn't Dr. Who inspire something to do with daleks as well? Or was that just a 5-minute joke in the DYOS threads?
