Championsleague 2009/10 Knockout Stages

Inter Milan v CSKA Moscow

Arsenal v Barcelona

Bayern Munich v Manchester United

Lyon v Bordeaux

Semi

Inter/CSKA Moscow v Arsenal/Barcelona

Bayern/Man United v Lyon/Bordeaux

I dont think it could go too much better for Man Utd; Inter, Arsenal and Barca on the other side of the draw and whilst there are tricky matches on their side of the draw it could have been a lot harder.

Arsenal vs Barcelona is the tie of the round for me. If Wenger's team are for real, then these are the games that will prove it. If they just can't handle fast-paced counter-attacking (cf losses to Chelsea & Man U), then, again, this will close the case on that argument.

Could be a beautiful couple of games to watch.

Arenal's job looks tough.. First they have to beat Barca, then probably Inter Milan, and then quite possibly Man U.

I think Man U is in the best position right now, and hopefully they make it to the final, taking their attention from the Premier league for as long as possible - but then crash out to whoever makes it from the other side (I'd really like it to be Arsenal, but my money's on Barca. Messi is a machine)

I really think Inter could be a dark horse of this competition, they can effectively start planning now to face Barca in the semis as even if Arsenal get through they play a similar style of football anyways.

ManU were pretty poor - worst game I've seen them play for some weeks. Their passing was awful. Bayern just about deserved it but their finishing was poor too. Ribery lost about 30million in value during the game.

Rooney twisted his ankle in stoppage time. Dont know how serious it is yet but it doesnt seem to be too bad

Manchester United and England fans are waiting to hear the extent of an ankle injury suffered by striker Wayne Rooney in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

He turned his right ankle in the build-up to Bayern's late winner in the Champions League, limping off the pitch and leaving the stadium on crutches.

Rooney, 24, is set for a scan and is a doubt for Saturday's crunch Premier League game with title rivals Chelsea.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson indicated the injury was "not terribly serious".

Yeah Man Utd could have been easily up by 2 or 3 by half time alternatively it could have been 1-1. I wouldn't say it was a brilliant game and a glowing recomendation for anyone concerned tbh.

How the hell Barcelona didn't manage to score once in the first 15 minutes is beyond me. Almunia pulled off so many brilliant saves, holy crap.. And then in the 2nd he makes a big mistake and comes off his line when he shouldn't have, letting in the 2nd goal? Arsenal could have won this game.

No idea how they managed to come back either, and it's gonna be really hard for them next week, but Barca will be without Puyol and Pique, so maybe that Arsenal world-class striker.. what's his name.. oh yeah, Bendtner  will score a hat trick or something.

In the end, as a Chelsea fan, I am glad that both Man U and Arsenal are still in it.. The longer they stay in the Champions league, the easier time we'll have winning the league.

i always said, the big difference between the english and spanish leagues is the taking of chances.

i dont know if it's training emphasis, simple quality of players, or different expected qualities in players being sought for.

I will admit that their shots on net weren't perfect (the ones in the first 15 minutes), but they were decent, and Almunia made some amazing saves.. his positioning was perfect (in the first 15 mins)

As for that penalty, that was a horrible call by the ref.. but good for arsenal ;)

I dont understand this, Rooney missed a couple of sitters on Tuesday and he is arguably the most inform striker in the world...

i got no statistics, just an overall feeling.
rooney missing sitters on tuesday definitely is not an argument against this though.

That's what i wasn't understanding, did you mean Spain was more clinical? If so then yes it is not.

After watching the highlights of the Matches I have to say how on earth Barcelona did not score in the first half? They had 69% of the possession away from home. That is nearly unheard of in such a competition at this stage. :wow:

I do have to say that we were a bit unlucky in the goals. The first one was a massive deflection and the second one was slightly unfortunately, but also bad defence. But we do have to play better.

The tv station I was watching the barca game on was reporting posession 72% in favour of Barca .. Not only is that unheard of.. It is also insane for an away team to get that sort of thing @ the emirates..

Almunia was brilliant in the 1st half and the shooting by Barcelona wasn't clinical enough, is what it boils down to. Also a bit of luck ;)
