City Hall

City Hall 1.12.2

I like this new feature, but would it be possible to show more than 1 adjacency? My current gameplay is with Ashoka, who gives every building a +1 happiness adjacency for improvements. Placing science or production buildings now randomly show either a happy face or a science/production icon from resources.
The same will probably happen (but not tested) with a Manigramam (Chola unique building), which gets a happy adjacency from a gold building and gold adjacency from a quarter. So both from a quarter with a gold building in it.

This feature would be most useful for me when I get more than one yield type as adjacency bonus, so I can quickly see which tiles gives which yield(s).

Example below: the Iron on the right shows a happy adjacency to one tile and a science to another, while actually giving both to both tiles:

so, the game is showing both adjacencies, but the game is putting both sets of arrows & yields in exactly the same place, so you can only see one set. i can probably fix that, i just didn't know of any circumstances where it'd actually happen and cause a problem. this feature is actually built into the game, it was just buried under three layers of bugs. btw if you can send me a saved game (here or on Discord) it'll be much easier to fix.

i'm not sure what you mean – put the hourglass icon in the new adjacency flags? unfortunately, that's not currently possible for technical reasons – there is a very limited set of sprites that i can use on that screen, and modders don't have the tech to add more yet.
Sorry I wasn’t clear: I meant add the hourglass icon above the building icon beside the building’s associated yield icon (if possible).

So for example the granary will have a small food icon above it like the garden, but since it’s a warehouse building that might drive where I overbuild to maximize specialists. It should be nice to quickly see that it’s a warehouse since the actual building icons don’t have a great deal of readability. Not a big thing, just added QoL.

yeah, unfortunately the layer that shows the building icons uses a specific kind of icon, which doesn't include the hourglass, and i can't add more until we get modding support for new assets.

that said, warehouse buildings don't get adjacency bonuses, so right now they should be conspicuous as the buildings that don't get a flag.

Thanks for the explanation. Save file attached (same one as I attached on Resouce Re-sorts ).

Hi @beezany
Wanted to ask regarding new icons for building types.
I noticed that these icons seem to react to camera view: when the building is in the screen center - the icon is also perfectly centered (and this looks perfect).
But if the building is shifter to the edge of the screen - the icon starts shifting to the opposite side of the screen edge.
Is this a planned feature, or some side effect?

I am asking because (subjectively) centered icon looks better when compared to the one shifted to the side.

Hi! Would be nice to be able to turn off the auto switch to purchase tab, when repairs are pending. When I am in a hurry and don't mind about repairs, just want to build units or start research project - I open city and mistakenly buy a unit, instead of producing it.
It is even more important, when using your mod with FirstDan Cool UI as it has purchase button on production list, so I don't need to auto-switch to purchase list at all. Can you please help with that? May be as an option?

this is a quirk of how the game draws sprites. all of the icons are actually in three dimensions, so you are seeing parallax effects. i minimized the effect as best i could, but the coordinate system is confusing so the result isn't perfect.

ah, i tried out quick-buy for a while and found that i preferred having a separate "purchase mode," which is why City Hall is optimized for that. as a solo developer, i can generally only support features that i use myself. config options are especially bad for multiplying work, so i generally only make them for options that i use regularly, like the sorting options in Resource Re-sorts or the verbosity levels in Map Trix.

that said, City Hall already has an option to turn off one-click repairs. the auto-purchase feature is closely related, enough that it would make sense to turn them both on & off together. that would avoid the effort-multiplying aspect of a new option. would it suit your needs?

Sure, it would be awesome. Appreciate your efforts!

i found a solution to the parallax problem you observed here. fix will be in version 1.10.3, coming soon.

this change will also be in 1.10.3, making it conditional on the one-click-repairs option like we previously discussed.

i'm currently focused on a major update to Flag Corps – the City Hall patch should be out soon after.

That's great news.
This should make this great mod even more polished.
I did see mentioning of this in the corresponding Discord thread.

Thank you very much for the update and for investing time into this!

Thank you for the update.
I believe the parallax fix is implemented.
It is gone from standard camera angle.

P.S. It is still slightly present at max camera zoom level, but guess it is not worth bothering with that, as zooming camera that much doesnt seem to be a regular use case.

yes, i'm aware, which is why the update says that it reduces parallax. i tested at maximum zoom using this monument at the front edge of the map. between extreme left & extreme right, the monument's head stays between the two notes. this is a limitation of the rendering engine & i explained why in my Discord notes. it's not possible to fix for all zoom levels, because the fix depends on camera angle, and zoom changes the angle.

that said, i reduced the parallax to the point that you'd need to know about the problem and specifically test for it to see the difference.

I am so sorry to bother you, I've surprisingly discovered that no other mod do one-click repair, so if I turn this off - I'll get this feature from other mod (i thought F1rstdan UI do this, but no). One-click repair is fantastic, still would be awesome to have this 2 options separated. BUT there is no rush in this at all, may be in a far far future :) If you have time, if you have desire to make another option - I would appreciate this very much!

Once again sorry for not double checking this concept before production.
