Dear forum readers,
I apologise in advance if this issue has been addressed elsewhere. I am trying to get to grips with emperor level and thought I was doing ok until I hit a bit of a snag; my colonisation of a distant continent, founding of a city with iron, linking it up with a road and harbour and building harbours on my main continent did not result in me having iron as a strategic resource. I have built the great lighthouse which enables me to traverse the waters safely to get from one continent to the other, but this would not be possible safely otherwise. Do the rules governing strategic resources not allow for this improvement? or is this a glitch?
Thanks,
Stuart

maybe you are lacking the ocean trade , are you at war ?

Firstly, my apologies to everyone for posting this thread in the wrong place.

'Lacking the ocean trade' - I have to say that I don't know what you mean, sorry. I am at war, but the 'trade' is with my own civilization. I have colonised other islands and have hooked up iron there with a view to the core of my civilisation being able to do something useful with it (like building immortals and ,soon, knights to go kick some butt!!). I do have to traverse ocean and can do this safely by starting and finishing on sea tiles in a galley. However, I can only do this courtesy of the great lighthouse. Maybe I have misunderstood how sea trade routes actually work as I have never needed them like this before. Even though I can safely negotiate the water, must I still have researched astronomy/navigation to be able to trade overseas?

not that ı am very knowledgeable on how the game works but it might be that there is a single ocean tile between and the AI might have "forgiven" you crossing that while exploring and moving the settler there . Being safe on sea tiles but not on ocean would be your problem then . The war thing also might contribute in AI declaring that there are enemy ships around and your merchantmen -that would have to travel in real life- wouldn't be able to traverse the area , all by itself .

I had a look at the 'Navigation' tech advance description and all was explained. As soon as I had researched it 'voila' I had iron available on my main continent. Puzzle solved! Thanks for your input :goodjob:

ı am pleased to have helped .
