You can in civ5 withouth mods. Start MP game, set up all AIs and setup yourself as "observer". Sit back and enjoy.

Because not everyone has been glued to the Civ6 news for 6 months. In fact, for a lot of people, this is probably their first contact with CivVI, or even Civ in general...
