Civ Suggestion: Polynesia

When polynesia is added, it would probably be a good idea to expand the map be 2 or 4 more columns in the pacific, similar to the way england and japan are enlarged for gameplay. This wouldnt require changing any other regions, and ould be done relatively easily. From my experience expanding Rfc maps, it would be much easier to expand fromt he eastrn side of the map than the western.

What do you think, Leoreth?

Another thing, I think we should add a new resource in-game : Sweet Potato
It should spread from Inca to Polynesia to (eastern) Indonesia, and circa 1600-1700s introduced to China, then Japan, and Korea.

I don't think it's necessary.

I don't think it's necessary.

If I make a map that adds 2 columns to the pacific, will you take a look at it and consider it. Because I think it will make the polynesian colonization more interesting. Also, then you can say that DoC has an "expanded map" to attract more people to it.

But in the end, it's your mod, your choice, and I respect that totally.

I'd rather attract people with actual virtues of the mod.

A map! It's from the Polynesian book I linked earlier. We can see how important Marquesas is.

Spoiler This picture is too small :

I had a similar thought. But I was thinking of adding pearls instead of sweet potatoes.

this is why we cant have nice things

both could be added imo. what matters is that it's a global, not a resource that only available at 1 region only like Zebra or Cloves.

Wait, didn't we have clam resources already in-game? It's effect could be changed to +1 coins rather than +1 food. If I remember correctly :)

Not all clams produce pearls though. Pearls are a resource I would actually like and could be rare enough to not disrupt the balance. They would certainly make Polynesia more interesting.

Wikipedia said:
The Pandyas excelled in both trade and literature before the Christian Era. They controlled the pearl fisheries along the South Indian coast, between Sri Lanka and India-Gulf of Mannar Gulf of Mannar, which produced some of the finest pearls in the known ancient world.

It could add flavor to Tamil games as well.

How about the Sweet Potatoes? I hope you also agree with it, so Polynesian people can also eat sweet potatoes starting from 700 AD :)

Even more, the clams in Civ provide food. But none of the edible clam produces pearls. Only non-edible ones do.

Don't know, would look weird without "normal" potatoes in the game. There are many sources of food available for Polynesia already.

I didn't even know that.

Damn it, I've watched every episode of QI. Apparently you also have to remember what you learn ...

I always watch the XL version. Maybe it's cut out of the regular version.

I thought I should point out that if and when I start a game with Polynesia, my gut instinct will drive me to beeline Australia.
I'll add natives to Australia. That's the reason why the Polynesian UU won't allow to carry military units.
