Civ V Civilizations Roster

CORRECTION:

There ARE only two civ slots left!

EMT forgot to add Mongolia to the list (Genghis Khan has been confirmed as a leader elsewhere). So the actual list of civilizations would be this:

- America
- Aztec
- Inca
- Rome
- Egypt
- France
- England
- Germany
- Russia
- Arabia
- Ottomans
- India
- China
- Japan
- Mongolia
- Songhai

Greece is DEFINITELY in, I am 10000% sure, so that leaves either Spain or Persia left as the possible contenders, although I'd say there's a slight chance Babylon might make it.

Greece isn't confirmed. and they can add the Mycenae civilization in its place. its their game and they can do whatever they want with it.

Seeing as Spain and Greece will most likely take the final spots, I can say I'm quite happy with the list. Dropping Persia and Mali for the Ottomans and Songhai isn't too bad at all.

Then again, there could be the Scandinavians/Vikings, although that would really be a slap in the face to more deserving civilizations like Persia, Spain, and Babylon.

I was hoping we'd get something really out of left feild, like Polynesia as the suprise civ, as songhai is something of a mali redux. its still a cool choice, nevertheless. I don't get the Scandinavian hatin'* going on though. Sure, Persia, Spain and Babylon might be more 'worthy' but thats very much subjective and impossible to quantify. I guess if we're going for geographic diversity, than Persia and Babylon would be most ideal, and i'd say the Vikings would be too, as northern europe is more empty than the medetteranian (assuming Greece is in there). Any of them would be cool to see, but given their apperance in the preview, i think its safe to assume that the vikings are in. If Persia is in, it'd be cool to see some non-Achaemenid leaders. Some Sassanids maybe? Or even islamic Persian empires like Safavid or Khwarzam (just so central asia could be represented!)

*goofy hyperbole. not saying anyone is actually hating on the Vikings.

Woot, Ottomans. Way to be, way to be.

It's down to the following for me:

Ethiopia
Greece
Persia
Spain
Zulu
Vikings

I picture Firaxis sticking in two African Civs this time. I'm gonna go Ethiopia and Greece for my final two. I think Persia, Spain, Vikings and Zulu are all coming in the first expansion.

Nice catch! You're right. EMT fooled me by leaving Mongolia out. :)

My final two prediction is Greece and Spain. I can't imagine them leaving either of those Civs out (unless they make Greece into city-states, as some have suggested). They left Persia out of Civ Revolution, so might they get bumped again. I can't imagine any situation where they'd leave Spain out though.

I'd prefer the Mali to Songhai, but no biggie.

The ancient Greeks are obviously important, but I don't think they should be a shoe-in. There was never any united Greek state (except the Roman Empire, which is many ways did become a "Greek" state), and the Greeks eventually merged into Roman culture (although preserving their language).

I could live without Spain too. Important, yes, but the Spanish are just another post-medieval Latin group. With only 18 civs, I'd personally prioritise diversity.

Persia is a yawning gap though. 3000 years of distinctive civilization, the Chinese of the West. I'm sure they'll make it in an XP if not in the vanilla.

In addition to Persia, I'd like personally a south-east Asian Indic culture like Srivijaya or the Khmer. Alternatively, another African culture. But, unless one is Persia, NOT another Western Eurasian civ until the xps.

Greece and Native America. You heard it here first. ;)

I hope they bring Canada in , it is one of the most downloaded civ4 mods. Also they were talking about city states like Sparta hopefully or instead of Greeks they just use Spartans.

Canadian Empire, welcome @ civfanatics!

Good choice. Canada would be an entirely distinct civilization compared to England,America and France. And its gaming appeal and historical significance certainly eclipses civs like the ancient greeks, persia, spain(&latin america);)

More seriously, there's a chance indeed that the greeks will be included as city states. Hope they give them a distinguished appearence in that case (with hoplites/phalanxes!) Anyway, my bets are on persia and greece for the two open spots. The vikings are outsiders considering the trailer.

Yay! Ottomans! :D

"and Suleiman look a bit like a Turkish Santa Claus."

Santa Sillyman is comming! :D

HE is my favourite leader!

Of course, there will be greece...

The colossus, the parthenon...
Philosophy, mathematics...
alexander, plato, pythagore, thales, Homer...

well, it has to be in.

The other will be spain. There will be 4 girls in the roster..

i agree firaxis would never take greece out unless they would really go for an "ancient civs EP".

if they would develop EPs like in civ4 style which was non-related to era or region, greeks should be IN. warlors and BTS included civs have no similarities in means of neither era nor region.

if we don't consider that region/era EP possiblity, for a civilization game, greeks are so important that taking greece out is more weird than taking any european civ out. greeks cover a much longer period for earth history. also, most western historicians accepts greeks as the cradle of western civilization.

Western historians have called the Greeks the "cradle of Western civilization", but this is just a spurious vanity. There is far more continuity between ancient Greek and modern eastern Christian and Islamic civilization than Western.

i know it is some sort of spurious vanity. but still, west-view products generally have ancient greeks as an element just for respect. they also consider Greeks to be culturally more similar to themselves, then other ancient civs.

Moreover, most ancient guys are respected, not only the ones culturally more similar to u. also genghis khan is respected although he came from a very different culture.

Anyway, I just expect Greeks to be IN.

Besides, I agree with the following.
