Civ V - One World Speculation Thread!

I was wondering about that earlier. They've obviously seen the rumors (they are listed on the 2k forums as well as various other gaming websites/blogs). If it is false, would they make an official statement saying so? I mean they obviously can't do so every time a rumor of expansion comes up, but there certainly isn't anything denying a possible expansion (as well as confirming )

They are playing around with our expectations and the rumours help keep peoples attention on civ5.

Well, I as a pessimist guessed this already... no announcement today

If that prediction thing someone mentioned on the last page is true, that they decided to NOT announce on Thursday because Menzies had discovered the "algorhythm",

I make a sincere petition that we shouldn't mass-guess the exact announcement date anymore so 2kgames could have the "surprise card" on their hand again...
and so speed up the announcement with us no longer oppressing them too much

NO SERIOUSLY, THEY NEED SECOND LEADERS FOR SAME CIVS. Although I am an American, I absolutely despise Washington as being the face of America. He was a cryptic british rip off subject wearing a powdered wig. F. Roosevelt is a much better representation of an industrial modern america...plus i hate americas UA. ANYWAYS ANNOUNCE IT ALREADY!!! Seriously though, if there were going to be a secondary leader for existing civs (and I highly doubt there will be), I'm pretty sure Lincoln would get that role for America.

Most likely remaining announcement times:

1pm GMT on the 28th of February
1pm GMT on the 7th of March
1pm GMT on the 14th of March
1pm GMT on the 21st of Match

It could be later in the day on any of those days, but I'd expect 1pm GMT based on when they announced Gods & Kings. They do seem to be taking their time on this one, suspense only builds for a certain amount of time, even my own interest, and clearly the overall interest judging by the lack of activity in this thread overall has declined in recent weeks. I don't see what is gained by not announcing the game.

They could just not have anything to announce. I mean, even if Firaxis are working on something, it doesn't mean that it's anywhere near an announcable stage. The supposed evidence of 'One World' doesn't at all indicate whether they were six months into the development process or two weeks, or whether they were just flying an entirely different kite using the Civ5 base or engine. The same decline of interest that you note as occurring in this thread would be much worse if they came out and said 'One World, to be released in November!'. Then there's the need to have confirmed details to append to what would otherwise be little more than revealing an already known name.

Very much so, and our only speculation is fueled by previous patterns of the older two games in the series (Civ 3 & 4) which had annual back-to-back releases.

I dont know what should I think about new expansion. First I think that all new features should have been in original game, I feel they are just ripping money from me by selling expasions.

Secondly I hope game will be improve greatly. However I dont think they actually modify mechanics how happiness, researching new techs and buildtimes of all units and buildings. It takes forever to build granary.

Just to note, this is essentially another way of saying "the game should have been released three or four years later". Game features don't grow on trees.
