Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

We've currently four women and seven men confirmed, with a minimum of four leaders hidden (not counting personas.) With Genghis and William likely, that puts us at either a 6-9, 4-11, or 5-10 male-female ratio for leaders. Not too far off from the ratio 6 tended to maintain, though 4-11 feels low, especially if Genghis and Franklin take our final personas. There should be room for William, though? I'm afraid I can't say too much, leader speculation is really difficult right now. We don't know how many there are going to be, or what civs or geographical regions are going to get them. I think a Maya/Mexico leader plus a Hawaii leader would keep America populated even without Tecumseh, but I can't even be certain about that.

I'm thinking William might be one of the persona-fied leaders. William, Duke of Normandy and William, Victor of Hastings?

He's definitely one of the strongest contenders. Some overlap with Napoleon, but Ashoka and Xerxes are both suggested for Persia so who really cares. I could also see Diplomatic Franklin (Founding Father?) and Science Franklin or Domination Genghis and Economic or Diplomatic Genghis (Pax Mongolica?)

Three leader reveals in a row accompanied by “they have a persona (pls buy our version upgrades)!” would certainly be… a choice.

Everyone is so sure about William getting in, but we've also had Elizabeth 6 times before. I wouldn't count her out considering they aren't shipping with a proper English, or maybe even British civ, and people will be wanting something to represent that. :mischief:

I’d rather the personas be called “William the Conqueror” and “William the Bastard”
Ashoka already has a Conqueror epithet and I doubt Firaxis will use the term "Bastard"

Yeah, not sure what that would even entail gameplay wise.
Now that I think about it, it would make sense for him to have two personas. The King "English" persona could focus on domestic duties and building infrastructure, while the Duke "French" persona could be the militaristic one.

Exactly. And you get a Medieval French and Medieval English representative in one leader.

What made Rogier II so important ?
He was the richest man of his time, is usually considered one of the greatest European medieval kings (and grandfather of one of the greatest emperors), led his lands from a county to a kingdom, built magnificent structures, spoke Arabic and Greece (i.e., was in contact with previous layers of his land's history - and these layers were very present in Sicily), conquered some places as well (Tunis, most notably). There really isn't a better Norman choice imho. But in the Anglosphere, William is much more famous. Which is a bit of a shame - Roger was born a few years after Williams death, but he ruled a wealthy and modern kingdom at the center of (European) interest, while William conquered and ruled what was back then a backwater island. Of course, history changed things later on again.
