Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

Antiquity is the one with a lot more unassociated wonders right now (probably just because the legacy path), but wouldn't surprise me if we get at least two or three of the Crossroads civs from there.
I believe Assyria, Tonga and Goths are pretty sure bets. I think the fourth one will be a civ for Notre Dame.

And then Prussia comes instead of Germany to combo break you-. I would prefer to kick Britain and instead have Russia-Prussia-Germany to get RPG.
I mean, most of the time when we refer to “Germany” in such threads we mean some sort of German representation in the modern age - so I count Prussia under “G”. It’s not like people wishing for Germany will be up in arms if they get Prussia instead

So there will be two medieval French civs before any from central or Eastern Europe?
I'd like to second this. A group of four, Spain and Norman + Byzantium/Kievan Rus and HRE/an Italian state, would give a somewhat reasonable path to every Antiquity or Modern European Civ. I wouldn't expect any more Exploration Europe past that until the rest of the world is filled out more.

On a side note, we are yet to get a civ or a leader with the tundra start bias. And I don’t think FXS are moving away from it, seeing how desert bias is still a thing.

Perhaps Catherine will have a Tundra bias.

Exploration age only seems to have two left too, Shwedagon Zedi Daw and Notre Dame. The later could come with some form of Exploration age France, but not sure if likely. Shwedagon Zedi Daw would be the Hanthawaddy Kingdom?

I could see Burma getting in. Especially if they want to have another mainland SEA civ for Khmer to go into, instead of having it be the Majapahit every time.

Roald Amundsen would be amusing, yet in this game an actual possibility.

Potworny's pixel counting and Ed's comments from the stream have pretty much convinced me that the second Norman unlock is America. I think this pretty much rules out Britain (I can't imagine Britain not being unlocked by the Normans), which (per the wonder list) leaves Russia and Prussia/Germany.

Russia probably gets unlocked by Mongolia, but with Spain only unlocking Mexico, I see no obvious civ unlocks for Prussia. Which leads me to a slightly bold prediction: There aren't any. I think Prussia is in the game, but it only has a gameplay unlock and leader unlock(s).

(This may be the case for other civs as well. Hawai'i comes to mind.)

Prussia gameplay unlock…finish Science or Culture Legacy paths…before reaching a milestone on the Economic or Military Legacy paths
(ie succeed, but not in the Distant Lands)

@Potworny ’s latest post suggests that he leans toward Normans unlocking Prussia, not America. It is the same number of letters.

If there has to be a civ that has no predetermined civ paths to it in the base game, then I can see America being the best fit for that. That said, America could also be unlocked via Hawaii an/or Inca (the latter is a bigger stretch) - we don’t have info on that yet.

Yes, I saw that. I just think he was right the first time (it's the four pixels that do it for me). Although I could very much be wrong.

Whether Britain or Prussia is in, I suppose the one has to be unlocked by the Normans. Either that, or they won't have a proper civ to be unlocked by, will they? Normans>Britain is obviously understandable, but Normans>Prussia is plausible enough - both are Germanic. And again, British Empire and Germany are too long for the HIDDEN box, Britain and Prussia fit, and Prussia is the second best fit after America. We are of course discussing slightly bigger and smaller likelihoods here, nothing is certain.

I thought Britain was pretty much out with America probably being the other Norman Unlock. But now that we know from the revealed wonders that either Germany/Prussia or Britain have to be in (or both), and both would likely need to come from Normans, I'm really not sure which of the two is in.

At least Russia is pretty much a given, so the bigger questions is the BG of the conflict.

I don't think we can be certain that every civ needs to be unlocked by another. It's possible that gameplay and leader unlocks are sufficient. Especially if gameplay unlocks are fairly easy to attain. With Frederick, Catherine and Charlemagne, Germany/Prussia could have as many as three leader unlocks, so there could be plenty of ways to get to them even without the Normans.

In the livestream they mentioned that playing as Harriet Tubman unlocked America, but what about Ben Franklin? Maybe their only civ lock is Hawaii, for the base game, and then the other way is through the two leaders?

Because that would make more sense than Germany/Prussia having no civ pathway.
