Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

IF deleting the installshield information files does not help
edit the registry manually:
search and delete these keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8} -> Civ4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228} -> Warlords
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989} -> BtS

Note: use regedit with caution - and do set a system restore point before doing so. While this is the *right* way of getting rid of the game (I agree with Jeckel here) it is also dangerous :)

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks Ori! I think I also finally got rid of the stub of the cruddy cd burning program and other schmuckware that came with this Dell.

Grrrr. Now Vanilla went in without a hitch, but when I try to install BTS it goes partway and then says

"Feature transfer error
Component: WarlordsComponent
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."

The only option it gives me is "OK", which discontinues setup. Warlords has never been installed on this computer.

crc is a disc error - either it is broken (or more likely) dirty :)
warlordscomponent is just the warlords stuff bts installed to be playable - it basically installs a mock warlords install with all the files bts share with warlords but not with vanilla...

That's what I thought from poking around the tech help forum, but 1. This disk installed properly before, 2. It's not scratched, and 3. It wasn't very dirty, and had the same error after I cleaned it. Curiouser and curiouser.

try copying all files from the disc to the hard drive and run the installer from there - I suspect the same error will pop up during copying - which would indicate a disc (or unlikely) drive problem - if not the installer should run just fine from the hard drive...

You're right, same problem, same file. Drat. Errr . . . what if someone emailed me that specific file and I copied the rest? Would that work (and be legal)?

Hmmm, too big to email.

Is it disc 1? That's the disc with the Safedisc copy protection on it, and I've had problems on discs (of other games) with that stupid copy protection. It seems to make the discs more susceptible to damage. Yet another way that game companies punish legal owners and don't stop the pirates.

for some people here it does not work - note how this is the first thing I list ;) - and it leaves a lot of the things I list sitting around indefinitely anyways...

Try ccleaner after you delete the install directory completely.
It will clean up remnants of installs that are no longer there.

I've been running BTS on my laptop for quite some time with no problems. Now that I've installed 3.17, every time I exit a game, I get a message saying that my system is below the minimal requirements before going to the menu. I've turned down everything I can find thinking that maybe it thought I didn't have the power to run graphics on a higher setting, but this hasn't helped. Why is it that my machine no longer meets the minimal requirements, yet it still runs fine. The message is quite annoying; any way to get rid of it?

Look through your CivilizationIV.ini, there's an option to not display that message.

@camarilla: Let's not get into the race issue. There's no such thing as a German race - only a German nation. (Even the notion of a Germanic race goes way beyond the scientific facts.) Nor was there a Celtic race - there were however Celtic peoples and (using some imagination, as this is anachronistic) perhaps a Celtic nation. Most certainly there is a German and Celtic culture, however - which is quite a different thing.

You are totally right friend! This is totally off the topic and sorry for annoyance! I just wanted to impress that each country taught history in its own view. So it is normal that everyone thinks different, and discussing franks here was meaningless. :)

I just included what i know about history in the spoiler. What I know is just for me, and if it differs than what anybody else knows, then this would also be the proof that everyone may think differently.

I have a slight problem downloading this patch,
was trying to add a mod to the game but it needs 3.17 for proper UI etc. but i tried using the ingame updater, i get a message the first time i try saying "update error"
i then try to click anything and it says "cannot continue until current patching process is complete" although its not actually patching anything (that i can see)
and if i now try, the message saying "update error" doesnt even appear but once i have attempted to check for updates i still have to use the Task Manager to get out of the game! as everything says cannot continue until patching complete

im totally lost and have no idea how to manually add the mod from a mirror, tried sticking it in the BTS patches folder but it didnt take it on, just sorta left it there but doesnt use it.

i have tried wiping Civ 4 and BTS from my computer and reinstalling re-patching civ 4 and then BTS but i get the same problem

any suggestions?

soz to double post pretty eager to get going and my origional post got drowned out a bit.

thanks :)

just checking you did download the patch (3.17) from here? if not do so e.g. from the link below.
then unzip the file (the zip archive has the patch as an executable file within it - start that executable (by double clicking on it) and it will patch your game :)

Welcome to CFC :band:

thanks for the welcome ori :), but the UI on the mod didnt show up still :crazyeye: so i rly dunno what to try next

open your civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name to 1 - then try loading the mod, close the game and post all items in your my games\bts\logs folder as an attachment here (e.g. as a zip file). You can attach files to a post by clicking on go advanced and then on manage attachments :)

god im starting to feel lyk a right noob :P cant find the .ini file ur talking about m8

edit: think i found it in a search but seems to have found 2 of them with beyond the sword as the folder :S all try changing all the log things in both to 1

thanks for ur continued help btw ori :)

there should be one called civilizationIV.ini and sometimes a second called civilizationIV.ini.bak (the latter is a backup the game produces - ignore that) within

documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword\

think i found it, tried changing it, doesnt seem to have worked, i had 2 backups and 2 mains probs due to uninstalling and reinstalling so i just changed the two mains to 1 on on things with log in them, still no UI in the mod
