Another problam is the scale. I had to reduce my model 100x and after that it's way too far from the ground and I don't know how to reset it.

To solve this problem, you need to adjust the pivot point,

In 3D Studio Max, go to the Hierarchy tab, and click the Affect Pivot Only button, then move the pivot to 0, 0, 0, with your model however high off the ground you wish.

This should sort your high flying plane :)

Ok, I fixed my high flying plane after I changed Absolute:World coordinates to 0,0,0 (Tools - Transform Type-In menu or F12).

I managed to export an F-15 into Civ4, but couldn't figure out how to export the animations. Anyone figured it out yet, maybe even partially, 'cause frankly I don't even know where to start?

You mean SceneViewer.exe? Yeah, it's pretty useful. You can run it separately and preview your models and animations without starting civ or max. Make sure you have BoundShape.nif file in your models folder.

so if you got just the .NIF file, it's possible to add units?
would be very nice :), though it doesn't seem very logic to me. when i try to export it (unanimated) a get a b*ttload of errors that i'm missing the .KF and .KFM files

is there a way i can export units into civ using blender rather than 3D Studio Max? Do I have to use blender export to 3ds then to civ4?

Added a doc to the first post. Please let me know if you have any feedback for it. Incorrect information, additional things you would like to see covered, etc.

Haven't had a chance to read it yet (though it looks promising with 20+ pages ;)) but about those tank and praetorian models, were they made by the people you mentioned to basically look like the civ4 models or did you get your hands on the original max files?

K, I uploaded the example files. Have fun with them. I have only just glanced at them so Im not sure what they contain.

ps Firaxis = best game company EVER!

How are you getting your hands on this stuff? Haven't been long on these boards, I must be missing something...

Well anyway, this is great stuff. I expect we're going to see a lot of new quality models make their way into Civ IV.
