Civ5 interface - 1st image

it was just a test game, i agree. fog of war cannot be removed.
and by the way jasmine may be my second love in gaming industry. (1st was Jaheire from BG2) :P

by the way, jasmine is the name of a plant/flower and jasmine is the english, "Yasemin" is used in mid east. so it might be arabs or turks or any other civiization. that doesn't seem to give us hint about the civ the tester picked.

well, i really want unique gfx for each civilziaiton. you know, in civ4 an inca swordsman looked differently than a german swordsman and a japanese swordsman. the settler seems just like a default unit picture, i hope they will develop it more.

Jasmine is nice. Ahhh...BG2. Absolutely loved that game. Jaheira was high maintenance though. ;)

Those comments of the code that appears in Jon screen reminds me A LOT the military advisor of Civ III and it's constant reminders that there was a barb unit near X city or that there was need for more military funding :D Thankfully they will not be on screen

The 3 crescent moons facing the same way on an off-white background is an Islamic Egyptian flag/standard afaik. Speculating the Egyptian may not be the ancient Egyptians, although the confirmed leader is Rameses. ?!?

correct me if I am wrong, because I am sure many of the Islamic nations had very similar standards...

Also, doesn't it make sense for mountains and hills and forests and etc to block visibility of the other side?!
where did u see 3 crescent moons? in the blue flag? I really couldn't notice that.

well, i don't know where crescent alone came from and/or how it ended up to be a common symbol in muslim countries but 3 crescent moons is the ottoman symbol only.
it had 3 versions, on flag blue, red and green (each meaning different)
also today's Turkey flag with crescent and star on red flag was also used by ottomans (with slightly different parameters of length and angle)
I wonder if they realized they would be releasing a screen shot of the interface when they released that picture?
i don't think they could be so much forgetful. they just knew we would zoom in the picture and discuss each pixel of the picture, because civ has so many maniac fans :)

jaheira was there in BG1 too but she was more beautiful in BG2 and the male player could have more dialogue with her in BG2. i really wish i could read its book.
BG2 was 1 of my favs

Yep. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were some of the greatest computer games ever. I think Stardock was trying to buy the license. I'd love to see a Baldur's Gate 3. :D

On the fog of war, I watched a video interview in which they clearly stated that fog of war WILL be in the game and that it was turned off for the demo.

I am looking for the link still.... can't... remember... argggh!

So yea if I find the link will post it, but fog of war is in, not to worry :)

edit: Here is the link, Dennis Shirk confirms fog of war was just disabled for demo. At around 3:29

Extracting from the screenshot:

1. Looks promising!
2. Buttons on the lefthand side might be a little inconvenient, though.
3.The terrains looks very good, better than in previous screenshots, with high mountainms casting their shadows
4. The woman could be an advisor, or maybe Isabella!

We can read Foreign Advisor on the screenshot

The advisor is asking "Consider sending your warrior to explore territory" and one of the choices is "(unreadable)warrior". That button probably automatically sets the warrior to explore, saving you time. I like it.

it reads, "find warrior" which probably selects the unit for you.

also I just noticed this but the map looks awfully square

Not really much one can do to improve the image, so here is just some noise removal and focusing:

In the top right corner, there is an icon that seems to be the tech rsearch (grey and blue) , it looks like "the ceremonial burial" or "stone carving"...

but just under it I see a king of golden ring with a little green point..what is that????

I think its a notification icon, similar to those you get in the Total War series games.
They've said that rather than forcing you to go through build queues at the start of your turn, you instead just get notifications, which you can deal with in whatever order you like.
So any time there is a diplomatic offer, city build completed, event, advisor popup, whatever instead of taking over the screen it will just create a little icon link on the side of the screen there. So if you have several different possible dialogs, they'll just form a column there for you to deal with whenever.

So I'm guessing the green thing is a left-pointing arrow, which indicates that clicking on the icon creates a blow-up dialogue box.

I'm guessing this one triggered the Foreign Advisor popup.

Hm, the UI looks nice and *cleaned up* but ... I hardly can see how this is more user friendly (then in Civ4). Looks like you will have to scroll your mouse around much more then in Civ4.

What I mean: For example units actions are aranged on the left side, but "skip units turn" is on the right side. So you have to scroll across the whole screen if you want to skip one units turn (if you don't like/want to use short cuts, of cource).

Hiding buttons will clean up the look, but it probably leads to more *mouse clicks per action* as well.

Any toughts?

Well there's a small possibility the third button from the top of the actions list is "skip turn" but I think it's probably the "Wait" command - one that puts the current unit at the end of the queue of units to move. (in Civ4 it's the W key)
I'm pretty sure the Skip Unit command will still be assigned to spacebar, so that particular actions is not one to be worried about IMO. I always have at least one of my fingers close to the spacebar. ;)

The bar on the right hand side showing "Skip Unit's turn" I think might be a default action, such that doing something like pressing Enter carries out that command.

I like the terrain but I diskile the interface.

I prefer to use the space for stats and info than for a big image of a guy and an oversized SETTLER text.

Sadly, looks civ5 is really going civrev direction

I agree there is little doubt civ5 will be heading (at least some part) in the civrev direction, even if it's only its art style (look at the advisor pictures, for example). I just hope they don't go too far. I played civrev recently and as far as I'm concerned that game was an experiment. I think it's clear to most who play civrev the target audience for the game is different to that for civ4, and it makes me wonder just who they're going to be trying to cater to with civ5. Of course, they'll tell us the game is better for everyone.

Ugh, we really need some new info on the game.

This is the same screen cap people were going on about months ago I can even see the dudes ear still in it. This is still a prelinmenary shot and likely to be different then the actual game.
