Welcome to Civ VII Game of the Month - 01
These games will allow new and old GotM fans to play Civ7 in a friendly competitive environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play.

How to Play
1. Please read our Must Read Rules and Game Details sections below for important information before playing.
2. Consult our Other Useful Information section below and ask spoiler free questions in this thread before starting your game if needed.
3. Click the 7otMxxx.Civ7save file attachment at the bottom of this post to download the Civ7 savefile.
4. Move the Civ7 savefile from your ...\Downloads folder to your ...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Saves\Single folder. (This is the standard Civ7install location so please let us know if yours is different or you can't find it)
5. Load the 7otMxxx.Civ7save file in Civ7 and play the game adhering to all our Rules and Victory Conditions specified below. (In game, click Single Player, Load Game, 7otMxxx should be at the top.)
6. Once finished, report your results in the appropriate thread and attach your finished save game to your post in the final thread.

Must Read Rules!
We would like to ask you to please abide by our most sacred rule: Do NOT replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. (Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI can't see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.)
We also ask that you don't use any mods - in testing we found that 'display only' mod changes actually had an impact on AI behavior. In the interest of sharing and learning, if you 'must' play with mods please state their use at the top of your AAR thread post.

Please give it a try and let us see where this goes.
Map Seed is provided to see if console players can get in on the fun.
Best of luck!

We will see what happens as new patches are released and what that does to us.
Please note that the 15 March date is to complete the Age of Antiquity. :)

edit - if you wish to continue, please do and we will add spoiler threads as we go.

Please set your own goal. We will compare them and see what we should use in future.
This game is very much an experiment and learning experience for us all. :)

What is "momentos"?

I found a very interesting feature (bug?). If you load the game not via local saving, but via the "Continue" button (which loads the last autosave regardless of anything), then with a high probability you get a random ivent, which was not there when you exited the game. Moreover, the events can be quite rich: +200 culture or a free unit.
I apologize for using this feature a couple of times, there were no manual saves. But this is an official opportunity at the moment, in the end.

I believe he meant Mementos. Its this additional Bonuses you can activate for your leader, once you have finished some of his Challenges. Which is of course a potential problem fpr GOTM; as it destroys Comparability between playthroughs.

In the spirit of the no-replaying turns rule, I think we need to be careful either to always end a session at the start of the turn (so the autosave reflects the latest game state), or to be sure to load the latest manual save instead of using the Continue button. At least until the issue is fixed.

Wow, awesome, a GotM already! I haven't even finished a game myself yet. And am a bit overwhelmed actually  , coming right from Civ 5 (never played 6), there's so much different. I don't even understand the victory conditions, score, or most of the things that I'm doing or why things are happening the way they are. So it will be good to be able to compare games; no better way to learn than on a shared game.

I might have missed something regarding memenots, but don´t you choose mementos before you start a game? I mean everybody hase the same savefile with the same mementos (or no mementos) so how can comparability be a problem?

I play on an Xbox, so I can't download the save in the OP. In order for me to play GOTM01 I have to use the settings provided. Specifically the Game Seed and the Map Seed.

Now that you brought that up (that you all start with the game already started), I didn't need to ask the question.

Having played two games previously, but never Augustus, here is my initial plan before I begin this game.

1) Victory Goal - fewest turns in Modern Age; in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages I plan to maximize score for next age bonuses; Culture Victory is plan due to Imperium Maius: Adds Production in the Capital for every Town. Increased Gold towards purchasing Buildings in Towns. Can purchase Culture Buildings in Towns.
3) Start with two scouts, then see
4) Culture Mysticism first; Science Sailing first (based upon what I see on map right now; may change)
5) Meet Memento Challege goals so I open them up for use in non-GOTM games

Aha! Of course! Good point, and not that you explained it, that of course goes for PC players as well. I.e. using game and map seed and choosing their own mementos. So I guess the rules for GOTM need an amendment...

I can't play the save file because I don't own the two of the DLCs. So I'm assuming the game was started with the Deluxe or Founders editions; I only bought the base game.

I'm just guessing, but I have a feeling the AI was set to random and one of the additional civs/leaders was added by accident.

I don't want to speak for the GOTM Staff and I apologize if I'm overstepping, but since I'm playing on Xbox I'm going to have different AI's then the players playing the posted save. I guess you could just do what I did and create a new game using all the settings above. Including the Game Seed and Map Seed. Again, I apologize if I'm overstepping. I know this is a test game to iron out the kinks.

Oh, I didn't realize Xbox would have different AI's. I'll try this and see if I can figure out how to use a Game and Map Seed on my PC for this first one. Thanks!
