Civilization VI for Mac "Coming Soon" - Aspyr

All these posts yet no one mentions the good ole Mac Pro LOL. How about a 2.8ghz quad 5,1 Mac Pro from 2010?

BTW if you are looking for graphics card choices for your Mac Pro, you can get non-Mac cards that have been flashed to work with Macs at MacVidCards.com. That's where I got my GTX 680 and it's great with Adobe Premiere, etc.

So taking a look, my old Mac laptop was below spec on Civ 5 in the same way (good on everything but the video card). And I was able to play fine (on standard or smaller maps), though I usually switched to strategic view as that sped things up dramatically. So I'm guessing it will be a similar situation.

It seems that Aspyr will launch the MAC version on the 21st. Let's hope for the best! :)

Keeping fingers crossed, and no matter what I'll try to run it on my puny 2012 Mac Mini. My i7 CPU + 16GB of RAM should be good enough, it's just my video card that is underspecced...

One thing I did notice from some LP, is that you can turn off leader animation. So that will take some load off, I hope..

looks like macs use more memory? take that hipsters.

More likely the ported over code is less efficient (more layers to run the original code with fewer modifications, perhaps OpenGL is less efficient than DirectX 11, etc etc)

I wonder when Steam will update their Civ VI store page with the Mac info. Kind of weird.

If my graphics card is below recommended but I have enough RAM, should I be able to run it, even if poorly?

Nobody could give you a clear answer. There's a strategic mode, which allows running the game with much reduced graphics, but if your graphic card doesn't support some API used in game, you may be unable to run it at all.

Depends how far below minimum it is and how strict the minimum is. If your Mac only has non-Iris Intel graphics, I doubt it'll run. If it does, it'd be awful.

well it can be below recc settings, as long as it meets minimum settings you can run it yes, but it also depends on your CPU, processors are playing a bigger role in games these days.

if your on a mac, the settings are already much higher then a PC.

apparently mac uses more cpu/ram/grapgics to run the OS or something?

I'm hoping for a Civ6 - Macintosh forum soon. The Civ5 forum was very active for many years. Moderators?

  • 15" MacBook Pro: October 2013 or newer

Hi guys,

Are we sure that mid-2012 15" MacBook Pros fail the requirements? Mine has 2.6GHz processor, 8GB ram, Intel HD 4000 & GeForce GT 650M?

Seems to me that would meet the criteria?

Thanks a lot

I think Xyth was just trying to be extra cautious in his suggestions. I have one and I've preordered, so I'll let you know.
