I'll be honest, I've mostly shifted off to playing EUIV nowadays, with tentative dips into Victoria III. I really like the decisions made in Civ VI in many areas, but I cannot deny that I just have struggled to get into a game for a while. Hopefully these new leaders come with a few balance patches
Nevskii's popularity was as much because of his 'choice' of enemies as anything else: he fought Germans, and the movie was made when Nazi Germany was looming as the primary enemy of the USSR.
Yep. I did a master's paper on Allied, chiefly British, propaganda during WW2; the BBC's radio translation of the Eisenstein film was one of the most fascinating of the sources I consulted. That brief moment of, "My fellow Britons, please stop hating the Soviet Union we've been telling you to hate for years while they help us defeat a common enemy. Then, by all means, return to hating them."
The trailer felt very much aimed at Gen Z, which is interesting because I don't think Gen Z is well-represented among Civ players. I know a few, but most of the player base seems to be Millennial or older.
I mean all of that was a joke. Between Alexander, Pericles, Gorgo, Basil II and now two personas of Cleopatra I think we're fine.
Though I wouldn't mind another leader for Scotland.

Sources are unclear. Some say she was Syrian. Some say she was Cypriot or Paphlagonian (either of which would have identified as Greek). She was born a commoner so there are no early records of her life.

Kind of forgot about her. But honestly, I view her as a more Roman oriented leader, thanks to her husband Justinian, no matter what her true ethnicity was.

Her first language was probably Greek (unless she was Syrian, in which case her second language was probably Greek--her first would have been Aramaic), but she certainly would have spoken Latin in court. I'd love to see in-game Theodora speaking Latin with a Greek accent (like CdM's Italian-accented French). Hmm, if Theodora was Syrian, that might explain why she had Miaphysite sympathies--though frankly quite a few in the imperial line did, to the horror of the not-yet-ecumenical patriarch.
Honestly, I think the announcement video felt different because they have a new marketing team.
Also, animation, rough as it was, is still more laborious than just having a live action video featuring the devs. So, a lot of care and concern went into it, even if it's not what we are used to.
I’ve been a proponent of a ‘Pirate Queens’ triple-pack with Grace O’Malley (Ireland), Dihya (Berbers) and Teuta (Illyria) for awhile, would give three awesome historical female rulers with personality (especially Grace, her life story is really interesting)

I just assumed they were leaving out official art to maximize hype. We're having quite a bit of fun guess the abilities rather than analyzing the same five seconds of footage... kinda wish we could do both though
