[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

according to the strenger interview there are no new mechanics and the game modes can be mixed to keep the replayability at a premium.

if you categorize history as only human history or only as written or painted , i would argue that scientifically speaking we know what happened to the dinosaurs and when it happened etc. a lot more detail then what happened to bronze age collapse

The Apocalypse mode sounds incredibly fun but I'm really intrigued about the Secret Societies mode that's coming out with Ethiopia. Espionage-related, maybe?

other guesses for future game modes... surely there'll be one for plagues/diseases, maybe one that makes religions and religious victory more interesting, an economic-themed one... maybe something completely bonkers like an alien invasion one? That might be a bridge too far for me but at this point if we're getting the Bermuda Triangle and acolytes who can bring about the apocalypse who even knows

I would bet on Byzantium with this one ... justinian plague basicly turn world history from possibly one path, to another.

I'd definitely have prefered a 'normal' expansion with a bunch of extra game mechanics, given to us all at once rather than over the course of a year where we buy in to something without knowing if it's worth it. But I'll give Firaxis the benefit of the doubt.

I remain hopeful, but I'd have vastly preferred another expansion.

I'm also a bit disappointed with that. It's been what, 8 months since the last game update, 15 months since Gathering Storm, yet it seems like most of the content in this pack is not done and will be created over the next year. Maybe the corona virus changed their plans, I don't know, but I don't get the drip feed approach. I guess that's the general direction gaming has gone to, though.

I cannot sum up how excited I am. More new Civ content is always good, and I'm feeling really positive about this. New buildings, new units, new alt leader for France (woot woot), new civs to play against, a new district... I just cannot wait to see how this pans out.

I'm hoping secret societies affect diplomacy, religion, and economics

Of course an Apocalypse mode would release along with the Maya.
It doesn't matter, I'm just excited. :D

Let one be a Portugal and Italy Pack. :please:
Or let the 2 leader one be Italy. Just give me Italy.

From the website:

EXCLUSIVE BONUS: TEDDY ROOSEVELT AND CATHERINE DE MEDICI PERSONA PACKS
Two of Civilization VI's leaders are transformed with a new look and new abilities when you lead America and France! “Rough Rider Teddy” excels at keeping the peace on his home continent, and “Magnificence Catherine” can use Luxuries to overwhelm the world with Culture and Tourism. Each Persona Pack contains a brand-new take on a favorite leader, with a new leader model and background, new gameplay bonuses, and an updated agenda that reflect the changes to the leader’s personality. The Persona Packs are available exclusively to owners of the New Frontier Pass and will be delivered with the second add-on pack.

I hate to be that guy, but the agenda system being the abject failure it is, only gets fixed if you purchase some DLC? Man that isn't likely going to bring back the guys that quit this game years ago... As much as I like buying Civ stuff automatically, I almost feel like waiting for someone to show a video about it first before buying it. My only real gripe with Civ6 is the lack of personalities system and diplomacy, like Civ5 had. It really gets old getting denounced for "grievances" by civs that have warmonger agendas like Sparta, Rome, Macedon, etc. Then when you stop warmongering, they call you a coward more or less. It's utterly ridiculous. In Civ 5, Mongols, Attila, and similar Civs could seriously care less about your warmongering to an extent. The game felt more realistic and immersive instead of stale sandbox like Civ6 is.

I hope that long rant I made last year as well as others, like various Youtubers, was truly listened to and they intend to fix that. Even if it is half as good as Civ5's that would be okay with me. Eventually modders might be able to make a masterpiece out of it, but that is if they even bother releasing the .dll information....

The girl in the Developer Update video has fleetingly mentioned Quality of Life updates. None of the footage or the screenshots seem to show any UI. Do I dare to hope against hope that during those long months of silence and apparently intensive work they have finally found some time to replace the Developer Interface with a User Interface?
Also, we should finally get some big patch. I'm almost more interested to see those patch notes first than all the rest.

I wouldn't mind more "skin" packs for leaders either. Rough Rider Teddy appareance isn't hard to guess but i wonder WTH is gonna be Magnificence Catherine. Maybe a pre-widowhood look?

QoL stuff would undoubtedly be part of the monthly updates they mentioned rather than the DLCs.

El Dorado was important to history whether or not it existed. Much of the drive to colonize the New World was based on its myths of gold and fortune. The other new "natural" wonders were believed in as well, sailors were scared of the Bermuda Triangle for decades.
I see your point, but you're still comparing mythology with continent-spanning organisations and belief systems that definitely existed and definitely exerted huge control over people's lives. I see the beliefs in the game as representing (maybe a little crudely) not so much that praying to X god would definitely get you Y benefit, but the ways in which historical societies were shaped by the religions they chose to follow. It's entirely sensible to me that a Civ that follows a god of the sea should end up with better production from sea tiles, because that society would specialise in getting the most from those areas.

But hey, I have no problem with the Bermuda Triangle in my games.

Is it a Natural Wonder that sinks naval units and air units? I don't really want that nearby

Pretty sure that it's just saying that it changes Catherine and Teddy's agendas to fit their new personas.

This is the last I'll say about the board games: despite Civ being my favorite video game, I gave away Civilization New Dawn. It failed to capture the feelings the video game series gave me.

I wonder when the reveals will start. With only 10 days until launch, I imagine we will have our first tease tomorrow and the reveal Wednesday.

I'm personally hoping they are an alternative system for religions. Civ's religions have always focused on evangelical religions (read: ones that believe it is a goal for everyone to know and believe them) but ignore (for obv. gameplay reasons) other forms, like elitist religions where keeping the truth pure and untainted and kept to only a few select retainers is a goal. Maybe?
