[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I see game modes as twist to existing mechanics rather than new mechanics. So I expect tweaks to existing victory conditions but no new victory conditions.

Part of me feels like the Maya will get an ability based around the "apocalypse" though since they are releasing them at the same time.

I don't think they will get a bonus for a mode that might not be in the game

Disagree, assuming it ties into natural disasters, etc. A lot of civs have bonuses towards victory types that you can disable, so it may be that the Mayans have a resistance to natural disasters (e.g. they take less damage) - is it Egypt that is immune to flooding?

Not going to lie, I'm a bit worried the Mayans will get an "apocalypse" theme, I sincerily hope that's not the case. Also about Mayans, a bit dissapointed their campus district doesn't get unique building reskins like the Suguba and Cothon, that should be the new standard for unique districts, and if anything I'd expect Firaxis to go back and give all unique districts the same treatment.

Thats said, the Mayan obvservatory looks really cool, I'm hoping It's a WIP screenshot, and that the UD will actually have more work into it, the city center for example has a regular monument as oposed to the meso one.

I hope not. That was just about acceptable in 2012 given the popular myth, but I’d be annoyed if that was considered a defining characteristic of the Maya now.
I'm not saying they should but I don't think it was coincidental that they decide to release both at the same line.

I strongly suspect Portugal is coming in pack 4. It's the only DLC other than the first that mentions new City States.
I think you may be right. Of the city-states likely to be removed by the most likely candidates for new Civs, IIRC only Lisbon was in the base game.

It'll be interesting to see what replaces Palenque. Highly plausible that whatever Civ it belongs to won't be featuring in the Frontier Pass at any point.

If it's an Italian city-state I will be so sad!

Same! I love the extra effort they made in Gathering Storm, so was a bit disappointed to see the Greco-Roman library surrounded by Mayan buildings.

Depends. We could have new victory conditions.

"twists to existing mechanics".

That's also not exactly what we know.

We know the following about the new mode

- The first DLC will introduce some new disasters to Gathering Storm, we know that much
- However, on top of that, the new "Apocalypse Mode", will also add more deadlier disasters especially in the "end game".
- We also know of the Soothsayer, which gives the ability for other Civs to "predict" disasters in other Empires, which in of itself is a brand new "mechanic"., built off an existing "system".

Hmm? We have info on the civ's uniques? Where are these screenshots from?

I think they made Maya in the same pack as the apocalypse because of the common association between the two, but I agree with other people that it probably won't be a part of the civ, because the apocalypse is an add-on that you can enable if you want extra 'sprinkles'. So them being in the same pack was just a fun nod sort of thing and probably won't have any bearing on the civ itself.

I think the best bet would be Monte Albán, a Zapotec city.
So far all the city-state replacements have been from the same continent, so I expect it to stay the same.
Jakarta-Bandar Brunei
Seoul-Babylon
Amsterdam-Antioch (European-like)
Carthage-Nngazargamu
Stockholm-Bologna
Toronto-Mexico City

@CivGame
New Frontier Pass, they are not scenarios like Red Death or Black Death. They are systems and/or content additions to a normal game, and you can turn on as many as you want! I think of them like ice cream toppings. You want to put gummi bears and sprinkles and chocolate syrup on your ice cream cone? Go for it. - Anton

Okay, NOW I'm officially hyped

Fantasy elements are already in the base game, they're called religions, and their beliefs have actual effects too. This isn't really a step much further.

Fantasy elements have always been in the game. You build spectacular building from history aka wonders; and they give you an ability no one else has? I mean wonders are inspiring, but the way they play in game is unreal. But both wonders and religions tie to history very strongly. Bermuda Triangle and El Dorado.. less so. Though I accept that rumours of their existance have had some impact.

Looks fine to me. We are still missing Austria, Byzantium, Portugal, and Venice. All of these nations had a huge impact on the world.
