[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Well all I'm saying is if the Water Puppet Theater just happened to be an arena replacement, I'm pretty sure Vietnam would be a civ with some sort of amenity bonus. Most likely they would receive more amenities with the Water Puppet Theater itself, which might make it even worth building. Especially if it produces more culture than the regular arena does which would also make the Colosseum a necessary wonder for Vietnam.

Of course this all hypothetical and it could easily just be an amphitheater replacement too.
I guess we all have PTSD from the Tlactli and how it is still the worst piece of infrastructure in the game, and the Aztec is a civ with amenity bonus. Let's compare that with the Electronics Factory, is it necessarily a strong UNIQUE building? No, all of its uniqueness is conditional and negligible, but hey, since the Factory it replaces is very important, you would have to use the EF regardless. Unique buildings are generally weaker than UD and UI already, unique buildings that replace weak buildings, I feel, are all set up to be extremely underwhelming.

Soooo is Vietnam more or less confirmed as the next one by now or are we still just speculating? (Haven't been on civfanatics since the last pack)
We've found more information in the files regarding corporations/monopolies, which seems to coincide with the alternate economy mode found in July which also had Vietnam and Kublai Khan. It's pretty much guaranteed to be them, in my opinion, but not 100% confirmed until the update video considering this month we get a new civ and two leaders Of course the new leader also requires R&F to be playable.

Yeah I can understand all of that. I'd prefer it to be a unique improvement personally than a building.
Still GS and NFP civs and abilities are much more interesting than the base game ones. Even if it does turn out to be an arena replacement at least it would most likely be better than the tlachtli. :mischief:
Although I'd argue that the Tsikhe might be worse. :p

Aight sounds reasonable. Guess the previews for the next one should be out in the next two weeks or so

Unless you are playing as a civ with Amenity bonus, reaching Ecstatic just on ECs and Arenas alone is pretty much impossible. Arena is the still the worst building in the game, unless you want to build the Colosseum early, it is never worth building it immediately after it is unlocked.

The worst problem is Water Park and their buildings can actually set cities in Ecstatic due to their tile radius, which effectively eliminated your need of EC once you have a piece of water.

If there's a tlachtli already for arena why not make the theatre or water puppet theatre as the zoo for UB.
I mean... The Temple has two replacements: the Prasat and the Stave Church. Why can't the Arena have two replacements as well. :dunno:

I think replacing a zoo would come to late considering Water Puppetry has been around in Vietnam since the 11th century.

I think at this point it's either an unique improvement, unique amphitheater, unique arena, or unique Theater Square in that order. :mischief:

So Vietnam could be the third civ to bring a unique war elephant into the game?

They could although I'm not sure what differences from India's it could bring. I guess we don't have one that's ranged, considering the Khmer's is siege oriented. But I don't know if Vietnam ever did ranged attacks from their war elephants.

I'd rather a medieval naval melee UU to be honest.
Though due to pop culture Vietcong is another possibility. :shifty:

I'm gonna guess if Vietnam is portrayed in its Medieval Era, the unique unit will be a unique Crossbow, which resembles the ability of Civ5 Chukonu.
You can read a lil bit more here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Dương_Vương
(I know the crossbow in this story was in the Ancient/Classical Era while it is Medieval in game, but the same thing happened for the Chukonu in Civ5).

Either that or this ship

(You can get a longer article in Vietnamese wiki)

The Mông Đồng is what I was thinking. I'd make it similar to the Turtle Ship from Civ 5 that is stronger in coastal water though it should be available earlier in the Medieval Era, like the Naval Tradition civic.

Though a unique crossbow might be interesting, especially if you could unlock earlier it in the Classical Era. :mischief:

It is very possible! We still don't have a unique crossbow

Does everyone know that the Vietcong means "vietnamese communist"? This is not a separate combat unit, but simply an army - National Liberation Front of Southern Vietnam

I mean it was the UU for the mod in Civ 5. There's no reason in the game why it couldn't just be the name for a unique infantry unit but you're right.

Just want to add that Vietnam adopted musket very early, and retained the advantage of having better firearms in the whole SAE-EA region for a long time (15-19th century). Vietnamese musketeers could overpower their Qing Chinese counterparts in one-on-one battle in 18th century.

So we could have a possible Musketeer replacement in the Medieval Era, Crossbowman replacement in the Classical Era, or a Caravel replacement in the Medieval Era.
These sound exciting. :mischief:

The hype is killing me! Also, it might just be the 11th we're seeing the update video because nothing has come from the CIVILIZATION channel yet.

If the video was coming today they would have put it out on social media last week like the all of the others. By Friday we should know if something comes on the 11th.

Well, if the pattern doesn't change, the pack should be released on the 21st (the penultimate Thursday of the month), First Look vids for VN and Kublai will be released on the 14th and 19th, so the announcement vid should be on Monday the 11th.
Oh good! A birthday present for me if on that day then :P
