[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Firaxis, unfortunately, seems unaware that Persian history extends past the Achaemenid period. :shifty:

I guess they stop the count after Macedonian conquest of Persia. :mischief:

There can divide it into 2 civs easily, Islamic & pre Islamic but I will take whatever I get, even if that means alternate leaders only.

I don't think that there were many Persian nations in the Middle Ages, though I could be wrong.
The Sassanids lasted into the Early Middle Ages (until the Arab conquest). After that you have a succession of mostly Turkicized Persian empires.

There is Khosrau, he fight against byzantium. Very middle ages for me.
Khosrow I is certainly an option, but I think Shapur II is a better one. He's the longest-reigning monarch in Iranian history, and the Sassanian Empire was at its peak under his rule.

Depends on how you define "Persian" though. Parts of Persia were ruled as independent fiefdoms even if they weren't always ruled by ethnic Persians even though some were.

Yeah, I got my idea of Middle Ages wrong, L. :p

I'm personally biased towards Khosrow I as he was the first Sassanid Rule I learned of, but I think either of them would do.

Persia is one of the very few civs I think fully deserving of three leaders: an Achaemenid, a Sassanid, and a later Islamic one. Firaxis, unfortunately, seems unaware that Persian history extends past the Achaemenid period. :shifty:
The only civ’s imo that deserve 3 are Persia and China, as well as *maybe* Russia or Egypt

If India isn’t deblobbed, I’d want it to have 3 (Chola, Maurya, Mughals) as well, although a good argument can be made for four (Additional Gandhi meme, Gupta, Vijayanagara, Pala, etc.)

I’m also inclined to go Shapur II over Khosrow i, but perhaps they can rotate as Darius, Xerxes and Cyrus historically have

for the islamic era, I would easily pick the Safavid Shah Abbas.

Gandhi meme should over in Civ7, I really want to see India deblobed. Just India. China still only one China.

for sure. Gandhi better never come back, but i feel like firaxis would be too attracted to the money he would earn

As much as I love Egyptian history, I don't think I need an Old Kingdom and a Middle Kingdom and a New Kingdom pharaoh--they're just not that different. An Old or Middle Kingdom and a New Kingdom pharaoh would be very welcome, though. I agree about Persia and China, though.

Both are very worthy choices. What I like about Shapur II is that, while he was a warrior shah, he was also a great builder. He's a prime choice for a cultural Persia (and could contrast nicely with a more militant Achaemenid Persia under Xerxes I, for example).

The same thing can literally be said for Khosrow as well.

That's fair. But Shapur II was essentially the pinnacle of the Sassanian Empire. Khosrow I is generally regarded the best shah after Shapur II. Also my general impression is that Khosrow I was a little more warlike and Shapur II a little more of a builder, overall.

I mean... Khosrow did rebuild the entire City of Antioch-I mean made a complete replica of it.

I'm just going to suggest the Khwarazm circa 1200AD led by either Ala ad-Din Muhammad or his son as a good idea for Civ7.:mischief:

I'm still pushing Sogdia led by Oxyartes, but frankly I'll take any Iranian Silk Road polity. :D

gib my timurids (they’re persianized turks who claimed to be mongols and became indians but you get the idea)

Definitely agree that Bactria and Sogdia are a big gap in the game's civs but Afghan civ from late the Medieval period til the intervention of European colonial powers would also be a solid choice.

gib my timurids

I would be pro-Timurid if they replaced the Mongols.
