Is there some ACTUAL leak or is it just some random person from the Internet mentioning Civs that everybody knew would be included? Maya, Ethiopia, Portugal were practically 100% certain Civs and Byzantium is not far behind.
The leak predicted Maya (confirmed), Byzantium, Portugal, Assyria/Babylon, a Native American Civ, and Ethiopia (confirmed). So, if that’s right, there’s two empty slots. Gran Colombia takes one. That leaves one left, be it Vietnam, Italy, Ghauls, Celts, the Lost Continent of Mu or whatever.
But the guy could have been wrong (although he seems on the money so far) and of course plans can change.
Asking for Italy and asking for Venice are two completely different cases. I don't think people who ask for Italy would be satisfied to see Venice in the game and vice versa.
I would consider Byzantium as a Eurasian/Middle Eastern Civ, just like Ottomans and Georgia. So if they were in the game I would imagine that they would be coupled with a Middle-Eastern Civ. So if one of the Dual DLCs included Byzantium, I bet the other would include Assyria (or Babylon - but I prefer the former).
However with the Americas in this Dual Civ DLC, Africa the next Single Civ DLC, I think Europe will take the next Dual Civ DLC and then we have 3 Single DLCs, with the middle having an alt leader which I think will be East Asia. I think only one of these "Single Civ DLCs" will be Middle Eastern and the other one could either be Eurasian (Byzantium), Oceanian (Kimberly or Hawai'i) or North American (a NA Native)... I hope the last can go to North America for a new native; but I get the feeling that as of Thursday, we will only get what we have as Bermuda Triangle is technically North America, and Maya is technically North America... I also think a new Civ in Oceana is unlikely too. So I guess that means I have my faith Byzantium? But I am still unconvinced unless the Byzantium DLC had a leader that could lead both Byzantium and Rome. It's still "1 leader" so it dosen't need to be in the road-map, but I doubt there will be more then 1 leader that can switch in the New Frontier Pass, and I think that will go to the East Asian sphere.
This guy called 'AssemblingTyphoon' (a play on 'Gathering Storm') appeared a little while before the expansion was announced and correctly predicted all the expansion's features.
What he said on the subject of a third expansion was:
There are a lot of reasons not to take this as gospel - we don't know what plans may have changed since this was posted, and indeed we appear not to be getting a third expansion as such - but there are a lot of reasons to take it seriously, especially since two of the Civs he named have already been announced.
Only for GS - but because the same poster clearly appeared to have inside knowledge of some kind, we are assuming that the Civs they mentioned were likely candidates for future expansions/DLC.
That is not a leak. He is just guessing new Civs and mentioning most probable options. Maya and Ethiopia were 99% certain new Civs. That post has no relevance what so ever.
Well you could make it so it's "Celestial Navigation, Naval Tradition, Cartography and Colonialism provide +1 population to each to the first city built on foegin continent when settled." meaning that portugal would get (if they complete all Civics/Techs in that era) 1 pop in ancient, 2 pops in Classical, 3 pops in Medieval, 4 pops in Reniasance, 5 in the Industrial. (then +3 if you get the golden age bonus). Of course you can add or remove civcs/techs from that. but that's 1 per era for the first 4 post-ancient eras.
Also... I think we're off topic here now, this is the Maya first look page and were speculating about Portugal. I'm posting a copy of this in the full NFP thread to carry the conversation on there.
Speaking of Portugal it would be great if coastal (water) tiles in Portuguese territories yielded some science based off of their contributions to the Navigational Sciences. Also naval units should gain xp for exploration. We don't have a proper exploration Civ and Portugal would fill that niche.
Considering European Civs I wonder why people miss The Celts. I know some of us don't like the idea of bulb civs, but considering a large part of Americans has Irish origins and The Celts were in every Civ game before I still think they are a strong candidate be a DLC CIV.
That makes EuroCiv contest with two wining spots like:
- Italy
- The Celts
- Portugal
- Byzantines
- Venice (still is an option)
I, like a few others, believe that the Celts are being represented, or replaced, by Scotland. There is a big possibility that in Civ VII they will rotate Scotland with Ireland, Gaul etc.
The fact Byzantine empire reached Egypt, Anatolia and Levant don't make them Middle Eastern Civ imo. Do we consider Alexander's Macedonia Asian Civ, or Arabia North African one?
That is not a leak. He is just guessing new Civs. I would have made same predictions. Maya and Ethiopia were 99% certain new Civs. That post has no relevance what so ever.
It's not a 'leak', no (hence why I've referred to it in inverted commas) but this is an insider of some kind, someone who very clearly knew all the information about GS before it was made public, and so could have been party to discussions over hypothetical third expansion content. Which does put it, at least, a rung above the lists of educated guesses that we come up with on here.

It's not about how far their empire stretched, but where their capital/powerbase was. Constantinople is literally in modern-day Turkey. That, to me, is at least enough to question their status as an unambiguously European Civ.

I'd be really happy to see the Celts in some form as while I love that they added Scotland, they don't function as a Celts replacement because there's pretty much no reference to Scotland's Celtic or Pictish history. Which is a real shame and a missed opportunity.
*still wishes we had a broch tile improvement instead of the golf course*

As expected, nothing today by the looks of it (could be coming later but now they have form for releasing both the announcement and the first FL at 17:00 CET).

FWIW, I think the logic is you get an Italy Civ, and then a Leader that makes it basically Venice, but there would then be at least the option to take the Civ in another direction with a different leader via Mods...
Gathering Storm information was a leak no doubt. If you go to his post you clearly see that his guess about third expansion is not a leak. He doesnt have any inside info. He is just guessing what Civs might be in the potential third expansion. So its just a guess. He didnt even mention Gran Colombia, which is the first Civ that was not 99% certain.
He is probably mostly right about new Civs though, because his guesses are what anybody familiar with Civ series would guess. Maya, Ethiopia, Portugal and Byzantium are extremely likely just like Babylonia OR Assyria. I wouldnt be that certain about new Native American civ though.
He didnt say he had any inside information. He just made a list of Civs that are most probable. If the new expansion DID NOT include Maya and Ethiopia that would have been extremely surprising.
If he had mentioned 8 Civs, which included Gran Colombia then it had some relevance. Like I said this list has zero relevance. It should not be referred as a leak. We dont have a leak.

Yeah I'm inclined to believe it was just guesswork as well. Unless Byzantium is an alternate leader, we wouldn't likely be getting five returning civs. So the fact that he named ALL the "big" staples felt like cold reading.
Add the fact that we quite likely won't get another American civ this season as there are plenty of other regions of the world that could use attention. At best, I would say maybe the leaker had information on some things that were in development, but the fact that he couldn't point toward any specific *new* civ really just makes it feel like a safe guess. Anyone with real info would most likely have seen more than just "a new native American" civ.
So, I don't think we will necessarily be getting Byzantium or Babylon, and I'm pretty sure we won't be getting a native American civ in NF.

I'm pretty certain that the first pack is supposed to represent the "Latin American World" so I feel strongly that we will get a tribe from the U.S. Hopefully at Pack 6 because of the new map types which could point to an Americas Map/TSL.
I'm fairly confident we will. Civ5 had two Native American civs; Civ6 currently has one. Native North America* is still by far the most empty region on the map. Even if Firaxis plays it safe and goes with the Iroquois, I'm confident there will be another Native American civ in NF.
*Yes, the Maya and Aztec are on the continent of North America, but in Native American studies Mesoamerica is always considered separate from North America.
