[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Ottomans representing the balkans feels a bit controversial.
In a game with four Greek rulers and potentially the Byzantines on the way, I don't think the Balkans are remotely underrepresented. The Balkans may be the single most over represented slice of the map.

I'm not so sure about this gap being filled compared to the others. At least with Ethiopia we have something close to the Eastern coast of Africa. Plus Zanzibar has such a unique bonus I don't know where else that would go.
Then again Mozambique would be filled within the Portuguese Empire. :mischief:

Though of course by that logic we already have Burma, North America, West Africa, East Africa and southern Africa covered by England.

perhaps eastern north america is more so, but the balkans are definitely overcrowded

I doubt most Americans would be able to tell you who the Salish even were, their historical importance notwithstanding.

Depending on regional familiarities, we’re pretty limited in universal public knowledge to Iroquois, Sioux, Cherokee, Navajo and Apache. Some people will know of Cheyenne, Shoshone, Blackfoot, Comanche, Seminole, Pueblo, Shawnee, Pawnee and so forth. Especially those that have sports teams named after them.

I think most of us are familiar with the tribes local to where we live or where we grew up. There are probably only a few tribes with national recognition, like the Cherokee and the Navajo.

You mean with just the U.S. and Canada?
I guess the Iroquois and Powhatan are out of the picture then.

i was including the cree, lol.

this. plus, like i said, i’m sure they are fine with making an effort to push the lengths of their fanbases’ knowledge.

Yes, that was essentially my point.

Okay. I guess I consider their core territory as more westward/central, especially considering Poundmaker was from present-day Saskatchewan.
Still that's not as crazy as the Balkans, or anywhere in Europe, for the matter.

If you read that whole particular current of points, all I’m saying are which Native Americans are more well known in the USA. I didn’t advocate for any in particular.

(Although I do have a soft spot for the Iroquois and would love to see them return, independent of other considerations.)

There are two civs there, neither of them native. :p I know you later clarified the Cree, but as @Alexander's Hetaroi pointed out, Poundmaker was from what in the US we'd call the Midwest. And again, the Balkans have four civs that start like three tiles from each other at best, plus another Hellenistic leader, even if her starting location is elsewhere. :p

Have you been there? Because the area around Niagara Falls is, in fact, highly industrial. :p

The hydro power of the falls led to it being an early factory site, especially for a number of chemicals. Which has led to the current city of Niagara Falls NY having a whole mess of superfund sites due to the dumping of said chemicals (Love Canal most famously: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Canal, but wiki lists 8(!) in Niagara county).

Speaking of Cleopatra, we are now going to get Ethiopia on top of Nubia and Saladin, from Cairo, with her. :crazyeye:

Which is still less bad than Matthias, Alexander, Suleiman, Gorgo, and Pericles.

Ethiopia's at least a little ways away on YnAEMP. :p I've honestly never met Cleopatra in a TSL game with Nubia in it; she never survives that long. :p

I think we have yet to consider potential Civs strictly by the unique art their leaders would bring to the game.

Some considerations when seeing it through that lens:

- A Native American leader in more traditional attire may be more likely than a somewhat westernised one a la Poundmaker.

- A modern leader for Africa may be more likely on account of Mali, Zulu and Kongo using more traditonal attires from their respective cultures. This picture of Menelik is pretty good.
Spoiler :
Menelik-Picture.jpg

- Still no 16th century European garmants. Portuguese/Italian/Dutch leaders would fit the bill pretty well. All male western leaders in the game are heavily armoured. Need a bit more finesse :p.

Edit: Another picture. I want to play with him on account of how badass it looks.
