[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I want to also note that since we almost universally prefer brand new civs to alt leaders, especially considering the hardest part about making a civ is the leader's animations, if there are any further expansions to civ6, I personally wish alt leaders will lead 2 civs, one new, one old. (This is the reason why I want to see Maria I leading both Portugal and Brazil). Seriously, after seeing how well designed Vietnam is as a civ, the announcement of Kublai just killed my mood. The best part of China under Qin was to rush wonders, now I have this boring ability of Kublai trying to leverage another boring and underwhelming civ ability.

I have mixed feelings on alt leaders leading two civs. Eleanor, while a beautifully made leader model, to me is the only leader choice that feels really forced bc she is so completely detached from England while not providing much for France, who already played culturally. Idk about Maria I leading Portugal and Brazil, I'm pretty sure in Brazil she's known for being *the* Maria the Mad, while in Portugal she's Maria the Pious. While she was in Brazil, she wasn't the one running affairs so idk how appropriate it would be for her to lead Brazil (also I have a weird feeling about a Portuguese Queen leading a Brazil that's supposed to be independent of Portugal in-game lol) . At least with Catherine de Medici and Eleanor, they exercised varying degrees of power and influence in their times. Idk I find the alt leaders leading dual civs to be a bit messy and gimmicky so far but we only have two examples so maybe third time's the charm.

The Maya and Vietnam stand out as the better designed civs so far imo, the others have have been hit or miss. I agree that Kublai is boring, and Chinese Kublai is even more boring and underwhelming. What I'd really like is maybe a persona pack for Qin Shi Huang, to represent his Warring States and conquest aspect.

Maria Theresa leading Germany and Hungary? :mischief:
Probably won't happen but I can dream of getting her in the game.

People went nuts with Lady Six Sky's name, imagine if Firaxis did Lord Eight Deer Jaguar Claw

And for some reason "Lady Six Sky" is being translated into "Lady Six Day" in the official Chinese localization of VI - VI's Chinese localization is notoriously bad, to the point which there is a "Better Chinese Translation" mod on Steam Workshop - I can't imagine what these translators will do for "Eight Deer Jaguar Claw".

I miss Maria Theresa but I'd prefer her leading Austria and Hungary if that's the route they go for. Germany needs someone cultural or science to provide an alternative to domination Frederick but I don't want that person to be Maria Theresa lol

I think the whole point of Eleanor was to represent somewhat of Vasconic legacy. I can appreciate that.

Except...she wasn't Basque and didn't speak Basque. Her native language was a langue d'oïl and her court language was langue d'oc. The Vascones had been extinct in Aquitaine for a good millennium before Eleanor's time.

Like I said...it was "somewhat of Vasconic legacy" otherwise, we all know there was no need for her. Firaxis isn't known for being perfectly on point with accuracy, but the intention seems clear to me. *shrug*

I'm pretty sure she was Occitan or something. Correct me if I am wrong, though.

I'm saying that if we saw the Kingdom of Navarre (or something) in a later Civ, I won't be horrifically surprised that they thought about implementing it.

I still think she looks like Pre-Raphaelite Princess Barbie. :crazyeye:

Pre-Raphaelite Princess Barbie Eleanor + Melting Ken Doll Alexander the Great... Civ power couple ❤

New leader & New civ...

Phllip II leading Portugal + alternate leader for a existing civ?

My greatest hope for an alt leader is to see Isabella return...

and for Byzantium to get a defensive/culture leader bc the Byzantium of MY heart is not domination focused like Basil's

I'd reserve that title for Jadwiga and Matthias Corvinus...

No, she spoke a dialect of langue d'oïl ("French") natively, but she patronized many poets who spoke langue d'oc (Occitan), which was her court language. In game she speaks Occitan.

Firaxis needs to separate out Germany and the Holy Roman Empire. Frederick can lead the HRE, with Hansa while a modern German leader would get Panzers and other modern buffs.
Definitely not. The HRE was German; there's no reason to split them.

Ah... That makes sense.

In mandarin Chinese, 天 („tian“) means both day and sky….as well as other things. If Civ‘s translation is indeed 天, then that would IMO be correct. Or am I wrong? I‘m not a native speaker.

At the very least adding Frederick the Great as a second leader for Germany.

Yes please, Spain does feel like it wants to a little bit of everything, It would be interesting for Isabella to take over the religious war aspects, and Phillip the transcontinental empire aspects.

I'm hoping that the April leader rebalance will give us some clues as to what civs might get a second leader (or alt personna), if another NFP is coming.

If Germany were to get a second leader, I would prefer a cultural leader like Frederick the Great. I absolutely have no desire to see modern Germany (Bismarck or anyone more recent) nor the panzer represented.
