why is the herd protected by vaccines?

dont predators strengthen herds by taking the weak and less viable?

"children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines" is an anti-vaxxer untruth

vaccines dont cause mental disorders?

Obama said basically the same thing when he was running for Prez, he said more research was needed.

I feel like I'm doing basic research for you at this point

What is Herd Immunity

The research linking autism to vaccines is even more bogus than you think

I don't know why Obama is saying a thing if indeed you've understood that thing correctly (I bet not) but I'd advise against thinking your country's terrible political elites are persuasive on things.

I'd rather you just answered my questions, I've clicked too many links from people posting them instead of answers only to find they had nothing to do with my questions.

And since this is JRs thread on political campaigns I'll be happy to move it over to the vaccination thread.

n 2008, Barack Obama called science on vaccines ‘inconclusive’
By KENDALL BREITMAN 2/2/15 3:56 PM EST Updated 2/2/15 6:12 PM EST
President Barack Obama called the science behind vaccinations “indisputable” on Monday, but he was not always such a staunch believer in getting children vaccinated.
In 2008, as a senator and presidential candidate, Obama discussed the possible link between vaccines and autism.
“We’ve seen just a skyrocketing autism rate,” Obama said in April 2008 at a rally in Pennsylvania. “Some people are suspicious that it’s connected to the vaccines. This person included.” (Shortly after the comments, Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor supplied a video showing that Obama had pointed to a member of the audience when he said “this person included.”) Obama continued, “The science is right now inconclusive, but we have to research it.”

Doesn't know what herd immunity is, uninterested in finding out. Righto mate, I reckon this vaccination convo is about done.

Outbreaks occur when vaccination rates are below a certain level. Above that, herd immunity is effective at preventing outbreaks. There's literally been maps posted in the other thread. At this point you're either not reading, being wilfully obtuse, or outright trolling. That fanciful "what about the superbugs" zinger makes me suspect the latter.

vaccines dont cause mental disorders?

They can.

My sister had an allergic reaction to a whopping cough vaccine, screamed for 6 months solidly, never developed beyond the intelligence of a three year old, lived the remainder of her life (until the age of 66) in an institution, could go to the toilet if someone went with her, had to have a general anaesthetic before a dentist could look at her teeth, and so forth.

This sort of thing is disappearingly rare, though.

So you're pretending you didn't call him an Uncle Tom because you replaced Tom with Ben. Yippee, I'm so thrilled we pay people like you to be lawyers. You didn't answer the question, what did he say to earn that insult?
I didn't call him an Uncle Tom - I gave him a nickname. Just like Carnival Cruz and Huckabluster. Since I didn't insult him (I just gave him the nickname treatment), I owe you no answer. I can't help it that you read Ben as Tom.

To answer the question you didn't ask...herd immunity is the latest fashionable buzz word from the we-must-quash-these-anti-vaccinators-beneath-our-righteous-heels hysteria front.

What does that even mean?

It means that when you want to steer a conversation in a particular way some catchy word or phrase that doesn't really contribute much or anything is a handy thing to have. "Herd immunity" is clearly a concept that someone found fairly recently to be a good buzz word for the 'we must stomp these anti vaccine folk' movement, because suddenly it has entered wide usage.

But that isn't the case here. Herd Immunity has an accepted definition. Here's an article from 1993 discussing it. I just found it by Googling the phrase.

It's not a new thing. It's not a buzz word. It's only been re-brought up recently because surprisingly people have apparently forgot about it, like if people forgot about gravity & people had to be like "no, gravity's a thing, remember?"

As I said, most buzz words are real things. If you want to fight nuclear power, get a bunch of yoyos chanting "radiation, death". If you want to fight vaccinations, get a bunch of yoyos chanting "big pharmaceutical companies are evil". If you want to fight anti vaccination fringers, get a bunch of yoyos chanting "losing herd immunity".

This is the 21st century, so rational argument has nothing to do with getting your way. So if you want to create a needle wielding gestapo to put paid to these anti vaccination people, jump up and chant. I think we're doing fine as is though, because I consider both sides to be fringe element whack jobs fiddling about tens of lives while we snuff them out by the millions elsewhere.

We have plenty of people in the herd just going along to keep our herd immunity basically intact, and that isn't going to change. By and large the needle wielding gestapo is distasteful enough that we aren't going to get one, and that isn't going to change.

hahahah needle wielding gestapo what
