Community Patch Events Development

* Foreign Advisor event is still not balanced and not worth even a little unless you have plenty of fishing boats.
You can lose 75 :c5gold::c5culture: scaling per city in times when you produce like half of it per turn, you can get -1:c5food:/farm for 100+ turns, at possibility of getting 2:c5production:/fishing boat, 2:c5gold: to camps, 2:c5food: or :c5culture: to some jungle/desert resources. And some bonus to caravansary building, which never seems to fire. Totally not worth it and a trap for first time players.
It's already getting a rework in the process so criticize it later after the update. :)

* Solomon Mines can still get you free armory in ancient era
Made it a requirement that you research an appropriate technology(metal casting or something I forgot)

* Civ events are not ok if I HAVE to choose them. Like for America I HAVE to choose
Gain +1 :c5culture: and +2:c5gold: on Pastures. However, all Cities have their [ICON_RESEARCH] Illiteracy thresholds increased by 10%.
Receive a copy of both the [ICON_RES_GOLD] Gold and [ICON_RES_FUR] Furs Luxury Resources. All Villages produce +1 :tourism: and :c5culture: Border Growth Point. However, all Cities have their :c5gold: Poverty thresholds increased by 10%
For {4_Turns}, receive two copies of the [ICON_RES_SUGAR] Sugar Luxury Resource, and all Villages produce +2 :c5gold: Gold. However, all Cities have their [ICON_STRENGTH] Distress thresholds increased by 10%

I don't want those events. I don't want to trade +15:c5culture:/30:c5gold: in reneissance to get more illiteracy. Or some :tourism: to get poverty.

Those are not beneficial events :c5unhappy:
I've noticed America got a bit of a huge bad event for their civ style (probably because it was hokath's first time) It wasn't that bad because -10% was usually minor for +4 happiness(BUT now it means 10 "dummy" citizens in every city which is why I have to rework it a little bit). Personally, I blame the community on complaints. Most of the time, civ events that offer a good bonus have some drawbacks(if they don't, concern the choice in question)

The new update renames Homestead Act to Manifest Destiny which no longer reduces Poverty and additionally grants +1 Tourism and +1 Border Growth Point to Pasture.
Veteran Pension was supposed to add +1 Food as well along extends it bonuses to agribusiness(that's why it needed the agribusiness to even fire). I'll reduce the Illiteracy to -5%(it was already was in the next update just not updated in the wiki). You also gain 2 more horses or something because you'd originally get 4 horses from the Sustainable Horse Choices.
For Prohibition, I'll make that Towns adds +2 gold as well and Distress is already reduced to -5%.

You make a valid point. I'll take a look at every civ event and make some adjustment.

I don't quite understand why I can't select the first option here ("Evacuate the city"), to pay 1000 gold, especially because this event also occurred a few turns ago in a secondary city and I was able to pay the required amount of gold. As can be seen in the screenshot, I do have more than 1000 gold on this turn. I don't know what the "required yields" are, but my capital has pretty much everything that could be in a secondary city.

I'm confused as you are, I'll test and debug why.

It is likely that the code picked up on the Gold and saw that you had <1000 Gold before any instant yields of gold.

So the solution is that you press Hide and then re-start the event again so that it sees that you have >=1000 Gold.

That sounds likely. On the previous turn I only had something like 70 (+843) gold, so that would have been less than 1000, but I ended up with more than 1000 at the beginning of the turn.

Another comment: The same events pop up a bit too much. I'm getting 450 golden age points every two turns on Epic. Greece went Statecraft and I suspect he got a bit too many +1 pop events, which gave him something like -80 happiness.

im trying to make more events but it's a slow progress sorry :(

Oh, I don't mind the current variety of events - it's great work. It's just that the frequency at which they pop can cause some really hard snowballing.

that's why the variety has to be changed.

Too many impactful events. Needs to have less impactful events to balance it out.

Hi I just got an event called "Bank Run", however there was no description for it, it just minus my happiness and gpt
Was wondering what it actually does 0_0

It probably does just what you described.

A "run on the banks" is when the populace loses faith in the financial system and a large portion of them try to withdraw their money all at once. The banks make money by lending out a portion of people's money, and so if everyone tries to withdraw their money at once the bank might not actually be able to give people their money. Everyone freaks out. The government gets involved. It's messy.

Or the opposite.

Playing on Marathon I get events constantly, and as you said the positive events can be great. The negative event spam is way too punishing though.

For example if I allow the Foreign advisor to "explore the world", it takes forever for me to get the good events but I'm constantly losing gold and culture to an assassination somewhere. It's virtually guaranteed to happen every other turn to a brand new city. What's worse is that it also scales per era so it actually is never worth it in return for +1 production to fishing boats.

My farms are also flooded almost every other turn too.

It's also exploitable for the "good" events. The military advisor has one that gives you culture/faith on unit death per city. That stacks up really fast to the point where I can get a veritable culture/faith bomb by building cheap units and sending them to their doom.

So now I just disable negative events, which feels horsehockey as well so lately I just disable good events too. I also disable advisor events. It's all good tbh I only really care about Civilization/Religious/Ideology events anyway.

I think the event counter needs to scale on Marathon for both base VP events and this mod's events. I don't think someone on Marathon should experience 3x the events when they reward or punish you for 3x the value.

Either you get the rewards at the same rate with non-scaled values (which makes them feel spammy and less important) or you get the rewards at a reduced rate with scaled values (I'm a fan of this).

Hi everyone!

I'm using the Community Patch but not Community Balance Overhaul.
Is it possible to use the Community Patch Events?

no. :(

I greatly dislike the fact that some of the civ events require you to meet certain negative criteria, e.g. have negative GPT in Industrial era. That never happens unless you've (been) messed up bad.

The rate of events is definitely a bit too frequent.

Also -75 production on turn 14 is pretty brutal. Instant restart.

Ha.. try seeing a comet (3 turn resistance) on turn 2! I had an amazing start though so I chose to suck it up.

I think a pretty crazy event is the choice between golden age points/gold/production/culture in a city. Despite having a decent focus on golden age points (and lots of happiness) I see this event so often and sometimes multiple times per turn this alone is probably the reason why I have half the golden ages I do.

I thought it was decreased recently in vox populi itself... Ill have to look.

Brazilian "pick a great person" event doesn't work. also Englands The Grand Tourney doesn't spawn 2 longbowman.

Edit. Playing with 4 UC.
