Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

It was empty. It was made just a few days ago.... wait, it was when my keyboard was superglued. Could that have been it?

What does this mean Its the same board with the database driver error a while ago

mySQL query error: SELECT COUNT(*) as topicviews FROM topic_views WHERE views_tid=769

If I suspect a short on my mobo at the powerswitch connector, is there any way to replace it?

I've gotten a new PSU and case to help boost power to my current mobo, but it appears that doesn't work. I've verified that all the parts have power and even got a test bed cpu-mobo to start, so the only likely culprit is either a short due to a loose part (impossible) or the mobo is cracked at about the powerswitch header.

And there's no way a dead CMOS battery can prevent a system from powering on, correct? Could a dead capacitor(s) prevent powering up?

To give an idea of how bad it is, I had to keep my system plugged in my old case for 3 hours with the switch on before it would actually decide to power up.

There used to be a Firefox addon called Stop Autoplay. Now its not on the Firefox addon site. Anybody know what happened?

Just decided to order a Biostar legacy board with DDR2/DDR3 options so I can keep my Intel E8600 CPU running a lot longer.

Next Question: Does Moore's law apply to the MoBo? Does it apply to the MoBo's longevity? :)

Moore's law isn't really a law. It's just an observation. We need to introduce new stuff now 'cos the speed of light isn't quite fast enough. We said this before on chip caches and multi-cores, of course.

Quick question that doesn't seem to be worth it's own thread.

I've been looking for new speakers for a while, but I've run into a snag. I have no idea what my on-board sound card can support. It's a SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC and really, nowhere, can I find information on it. Google, along with many other sources has failed me. So, two questions.

1) How can I find out if my on-board sound card can support either 2.1 sound system, or a 5.1?
2) Better yet, since this card seems popular going by Google, would any of you happen to know if this certain card can support 2.1 or 5.1?

Thanks :goodjob:

EDIT: Disregard.

I've decided not to upgrade my speakers.

Why have you changed your mind? Just curious. I've been thinking of buying some new speakers too. My current pair, while decent, are from the mid-ninties and are starting to fuzz out when the bass kicks in. :goodjob:

I wish I never told my mom how to reset the router. The stupiud %$#@ does it EVERY TIME THERES A CONNECTION PROBLEM even if it would be easily fixed by SWAPPING THE GODDAMN CABLES. Well, now, we lost the router password. Its a Dlink and the default SHOULD be "admin" but the guys at the store installed some custom firmware on it seems. There is a paper wth the password but that doesnt work.

Any suggestions? Or are we FUBAR'd?

your connection seems fine, otherwise you woudlent be posting here. id say just leave it be.

and now a question of my own: how do i train avast to think that steam is a virus? its more for my amusement than anything else.

No I want to do something specific in the router settings

I have been forced to use my older laptop for awhile since my usual one has broken down. It is not as fast or good as my other one, but it works. Unfortunately this has led me to not get my EU3 fix and I have begun feeling the urge. After checking my specs on the Can I Run It site, I have realized that the only problem I have is that my videocard doesnt live up to the minimum requirements(I thought there would be more stuff) and It look thus:

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Required You Have
Video RAM 128 MB 96.0 MB
Hardware T&L Yes No
Pixel Shader version 2.0 2.0
Vertex Shader version 2.0 0.0

The first column is the requirements, the second is my specs.

could someone explain to me whether or not I can expect this to run anyway?

the question might seem a little stupid since I could just try and install the game, but it takes some time getting it from steam and installing it, and I have experienced other games that I can run although I am below the minimum specs(civ 4 I can run although my hardware is obsolete, which only become a problem in the lategame)

sry about the long post, but I know the more information the easier it is for you guys to help.

EDIT: btw I can play HoI2 with no problems, I dont know if that helps since it doesnt seem to be especially demanding

Will there ever be a day when the refresh/reload button is no longer needed for internet browsing? will I ever get to look at the forums and witness threads/posts being posted real-time without refreshing?

I think something like thats already done somewhere.

I think google wave is that way, among other online collab. services. I'm just wondering if the rest of the internet will eventually be that way.

Perhaps.

On my computer I found an empty directory called PACE Anti-Piracy. I looked that up and got several programs that used it I did not use those programs. The folder was created back in September but I did not notice it until now which makes me wonder if it was hidden or something. I did not install anything during that time. Where did it come from and how much should I worry? Half of the sites say you should remove it and the other half say to not worry.
