Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

Intel has step cycles for that though (S2, etc...)

If you are running at 100% sustained I'm pretty sure it will be using the highest power state (or close to it)

I'm still waiting for an answer.

The auto-load is especially irritating when I read a news article on certain news sites and the video auto-loads AND auto-plays.

I do have NoScript, but I dunno if it can specifically target just videos in the manner I'm describing above, without sacrificing the other stuff on the page that I happen to have unblocked. :dunno:
I really should not have to wait days and days for an answer until I get impatient and start demanding them.

Spoiler :
(I apologize for being annoying. )

Did you try Flashblock as I suggested, or am I being ignored?

Yeah, I really had no excuse here.

Attempted to download it last night, FF wouldn't let me. Tried again tonight, got it, it works.

I'm an idiot. :(

Anyways, thanks. :)

Any suggestions for a fairly durable mouse under $20. Alternatively, how can I make my mouse recognize my inputs correctly again?

$20 is cheap for a good mouse. Probably spend $30 to $35 on a wireless mouse if you want durability, unless you find a sale.

Suggestions: update BIOS, update USB or PS/2 drivers as appropriate, get a voltmeter and see if there are any circuit breaks in the mouse's line (if so, see if you can replace the mouse cable), see if your warranty will cover a replacement before you try any disassembly of your mouse though.

Wireless is probably the best option since the USB cable is usually the weakest link in mouse longevity.

If durability really is an issue it would suggest more than random use of computer and if so I'd rather invest few extra bucks for a proper mouse instead of a cheap bulk one - Razer for instance. Excellent in use, ergonomic, very durable & convenient since the cable is a non-tangle one - sounds weird but works in practice.

There's no reason to get a Razer mouse unless you want one specifically for some features it has.

I beg to disagree but I admit that most people are fine with a cheap(er) mouse, partly because they haven't tried a better one. However, if the budget has no flexibility then Razer isn't an option. The cheapest one on their site was $50 when I checked out of curiosity.

Nice to see that others appreciate quality as well. I've been solely using Razer since 2005, the Euro release of WoW, and yet to break one. Currently 4 in active use. Occasionally 100+ weekly hours with a mouse in hand one starts to appreciate even the slightest of differences.
While there isn't necessarily a need for a better than an average mouse I haven't met anyone who switched back to bulk after using a good one.

Razer mice that have broken on me: Boomslang 2100, Copperhead, Deathadder 3500 (x2)

Not that I think they're particularly unreliable, other companies don't fare much better, but paying for reliability in a mouse is pretty much the worst possible reason you could spend more than $15 on a mouse, there's really nothing to indicate that paying more is going to get you a mouse that lasts any longer.

That seems very odd & unfortunate. I don't think my friends put together have broken 4 Razer quite of a few of them being comp geeks and/or (semi)hardcore gamers. The sample though is still quite small for any decisive conclusions.
My oldest are Diamondback 3Gs, both made in China which surely isn't a pinnacle of excellence. Don't know though if Razer has factories anywhere else. Still the average life cycle of a Razer greatly surpasses any other brand, most commonly Logitech or some Chinese bulk crap nor do I know from whom Microsoft buys it's mice these days.

Seriously, Microsoft and Logitech aren't crap, they make top-notch peripherals on par with Razer in terms of build quality.

I get Microsoft mice, which are $10 if Im lucky. I only got to replace them every 3 years or so. Once because I stepped on it (it fell on the floor).

I wasn't referring to Logitech or Microsoft as crap but those Chinese which are branded separately for each container.
