Conservative Bible Project Cuts Out Liberal Passages

That's the inspiration behind the Conservative Bible Project, which seeks to take the text back to its supposed right-wing roots.

Yes, even scripture is not orthodox enough for the modern conservative. Not that it's the fault of the author(s), exactly. The group cites a few reasons why the Bible is too progressive: "Lack of precision in the original language ... lack of precision in modern language" and "translation bias in converting the original language to the modern one."

So how can the Bible be conservatized? The group has proposed a Wikipedia-like group editing project. Some of the ideas would only bring the translation closer to the original. But others would fundamentally change the text.

7. Express Free Market Parables; explaining the numerous economic parables with their full free-market meaning

8. Exclude Later-Inserted Liberal Passages: excluding the later-inserted liberal passages that are not authentic, such as the adulteress story

 This will end well.

I'm going to steal a phrase from somewhere off the internet and call this a bizarre lovechild of the Jesus Seminar and some fundamentalist bible college.

Of course, it's hardly the first time the Bible has been edited, often by sincere and devout people, for political purposes. I seem to recall a communist Bible (in line with liberation theology), and of course, there were a number of Bibles in circulation a century or so ago that removed all non-negative references to wine and other spirits. Produced by prohibitionist, obviously.

I'm not even sure that my mind is capable of formulating a coherent reaction to this. I suppose the obvious comparison is to Thoma's Jefferson's The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, but that was never intended to represent the accurate "Word of God"; indeed, the very contrary. These guys seem to consider it a serious religous work, which is simply... baffling.

Revelation 22:18-19 (King James Version)

18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

I guess this will be one of the Liberal passages taken out, lol.

Speak thou also unto the children of Real America, saying, Verily my TAX CUTS ye shall keep: For it is A SIGN between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Does this mean there will be no more fun contradictory passages that we can use?

I honestly can't bring myself to believe that this is real.

I call heresy on this. "Liberals and critics will have to read the book and have their minds open"?! No thanks, I'm sticking with the Catholic Bible. Though they are building upon the NJK which IIRC a majority of Protestants (and non-Catholic & non-Orthodox Christians) use.

Oh and for some laughs: http://conservapedia.com/Conservative_Bible_Project

Don't forget all the times it was edited between 5,000B.C. and today.

I mean, that's how religions evolve, right? A buncha guys get together - decide that their holy book is not good enough anymore - they edit it, or write a sequel, and then you end up with Mormons and stuff..

You know who else edited the Bible for their own political gain?

And lo, Jesus did truly walk onto his local polling station and verily did he vote for the Republican candidate.

Jesus was a Commie, this is a well known fact! I mean sharing and taking care of the less fortunate and everyone being equal, Jesus must burn for being a Commie!!! oh wait, Pontius Pilate beat me to it :(
